A scan of the 11th issue Young Champion magazine revealed that manga Young Black Jack will be adapted to a TV anime.

The manga is written by Yoshiaki Tabata and drawn by Yuugo Okuma. It debuted in November 2011 in Young Champion and is a prequel to the original Black Jack manga by Osamu Tezuka. Young Black Jack currently has seven volumes in print, and its eighth volume will be published on May 20.

The original Black Jack series received various anime adaptations including TV series, OVAs, and movies.

Synopsis
Based on the brilliant maverick doctor created by manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka. This prequel follows Black Jack when he was still a medical student in the 1960s. (Source: ANN)

I haven't seen the original or read the manga before. Coming into this series fresh I guess...

Fans of Black Jack, is it necessary to watch the original stuff for better experience?

I guess not. It's a prequel after all. But you will enjoy it more if you do watch the original TV series.

Not too keen on Tabata's stories, but this could be pretty enjoyable.

Awesome! The cover artwork seems to be more in the vein of the ova series. I highly prefer that over the bright childish tv series art and character design

Really looking forward to more Black Jack!

I saw some of the episodes of Black Jack on television before but never finish the show. Perhaps I could go with this and could use this prequel as a deciding factor to try it the original Black Jack on manga.

Hm, for once an anime adaption where I don't plan on reading the original anyway, although I do hope that this won't affect my (potential) enjoyment of this series... However I still remember this series' wonderful phone cases (or whatever those were) catching my interest, so it might turn out to be worth it, in one way if not another~ (`w´)

You will definitely have a better experience if you've read the original although it's not necessary. Young Black Jack has a lot of easter eggs and tributes from the original Black Jack and Osamu's other works. The story is also more realistic compared to the original's strange tales.

I can't believe this is happening. Hyped!

It's nice to still see Tezuka manga getting appreciated and getting new adaptations and interpretations in 2015. Sometimes it feels like the industry is trying to push out the classics and pave over them with a new more erotic and flashy appeal, but clearly somebody still remembers. I predict TMS and a 5 o'clock prime time slot.

I recommend the OVA from the early 90's by Osamu Dezaki. Great interpretation and excellent cinematography to them.

A prequel not by the original mangaka... that modern bishounen look he has looks off-putting.
Why all the classics anyway? I don't think it'll get them much money. Plus plenty of good stuff that are more recent (aside from romcom harems) to adapt out there that they are overlooking. :L

Though probably will watch. Haven't gotten around to Black Jack anyway.

I have like zero expectations of any shounen, but I have to at least remember to check it out since it takes place in the 60s. That could be somewhat interesting.

But when it comes to shounen, first ass pull or exposition dump through outspoken monologue and I'm out. Just because your demographic is children doesn't mean you have to dumb it down to goldfish level.

Thinking back, Blackjack was pretty awesome, but for some reason I can't see the franchise aging too well. I'll likely give this a chance though.
