Just a small bit of error but if you add the two volumes of Tokyo ghoul:re it sold 1,516,819 copies.

I went and checked the weekly sales, and added up the two volumes, and they are at least above 1.2 million, so I guess you are right.

How did you reach that number? so I can edit the OP.

Those rankings are from the weekly top selling manga series. If something is on the volume rankings (top 50) but not on the series rankings (top 10) then the volume sales totals can produce the higher sales.

But if you take the series rankings for the weeks when that data is available and the volume rankings in weeks when it is not (but volumes do appear in the rankings), the figure would likely be higher still.

EDIT: too used to dealing with light novesl...

I wouldn't be so sure though because it still has a chance despite being a small one. Nanatsu is still enjoying the benefits of the anime boost and are selling 160-200k copies every week.

True, since both volumes were released after Nov 16, where Oricon starts counting from Nov 17 for 2015. The extra sales would've been from weeks where it didn't reach Top 10 manga series ranking, but had still had individual volumes within the Top 500 manga, and were still counted as a result. I will add a correction column to account for these cases.

If you find any other such cases where every single volume of a series was released after Nov 17, 2015, and will therefore equal its total sales for 2015 (if we know all its current sales), please let me know thanks.

My explanation for these rankings is that it is a compilation of all the individual volumes for a particular series that ranked within the Top 500 (as that's how far Oricon counts to). The thing is that we only get access to the Top 50 manga now, so the total number of sales from the Top 50 is always less than or equal to the sales provided in the Top 10 manga series by Oricon.

I also included the maximum possible sales every manga series there could possibly have, which was calculated by:

Total known weekly series sales + Sum of the threshold sales for every week it didn't chart in the Top 10 weekly series - the number of weeks it didn't chart in the Top 10 weekly series. So it is likely ONE PIECE is above Nanantsu right now, since it only has 7/20 weeks of sales known, but unfortunately we can't say that for certain. However, it should be above it by next week since it will probably sell 1M+ in week 2 as usual.

So this is how the ranks would look with max possible sales (but it may not entirely be this way, as it depends how close they were to the thresholds in each week):

*1 6,293,205 ONE PIECE

vs know sales:

*1 5,810,510 七つの大罪
*2 4,960,245 ONE PIECE
*3 3,323,513 暗殺教室
*4 2,107,394 進撃の巨人
*5 1,752,514 ハイキュー!!

If the sales remain consistent, this year's top 5 might look like something like this:

1- One piece
2- NNT
3- AssClass
4- SnK
5- Tokyo ghoul (prequel included)

Unless a new series gets ridiculous amount sales boost.

^Do you mean the whole year or only the first half? Because I can't see NNT outelling One Piece at the end of the year.

But I can see it being first sometime in the future. Since it releases six volumes a year instead of 3 or 4 like One Piece or SNK it doesn't even need to sell as much as them per volume to outsell them.

I predict that SNK will get a boost and outsell AssClass by the end of the year.

How much more volumes of assclass will be coming out this year? If I know how many more volumes will be release for this series I could make a rough estimate if it will come 3rd or fourth this year.

It usually puts out 5 volumes in an year so it still has 2 more left to go. They'll be released on July and October.

Updated with the most recent May 11~17 data.

FAIRY TAIL moves into 9th, NARUTO drops to 10th, Shokugeki no Souma moves to 11th, and Tokyo Ghoul drops down to 12th.

This is based on known weekly sales provided by Oricon, so the rankings may differ due to series falling under the thresholds, etc. Oricon will release the half-yearly sales figures end of May/early June if I remember from last year.

It sold 177,222 as a series this week, which was enough to bring it to 9th based on the known Top 10 weekly manga series sales (which includes all sales within the Top 500 manga), and partial sales from the Top 50 manga if it didn't rank in the Top 10 weekly manga series for a particular week.

Basically these sales take priority... before I look at the partial sales in the Top 50 manga if it is not there. In Nanatsu no Taizai's case, it had partial sales of 26,532, and sold less than 70,147 as a series this week. Fairy Tail obviously is included, and I did not even look at the latest volume sales as it is already included in that 177,222 for the week.

Weekly Manga Series from Oricon Youtaiju
*1 215,650 Barakamon (ばらかもん)
*2 177,222 FAIRY TAIL
*3 156,388 Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (四月は君の嘘)
*4 132,635 Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (暗殺教室)
*5 *93,595 Haikyuu!! (ハイキュー!!)
*6 *84,079 Owari no Seraph (終わりのセラフ)
*7 *82,044 Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo (山田くんと7人の魔女)
*8 *81,808 Shokugeki no Souma (食戟のソーマ)
*9 *76,473 Kekkai Sensen (血界戦線)
10 *70,147 Baby Steps (ベイビーステップ)

For special cases I may look at individual volume sales, but only if all volumes of a series were released in 2015, such as Tokyo Ghoul:re.

I doubt it, as Oricon tends to split spin-offs and anything unrelated to the main series from the main series number. That's why there are two different numbers for Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul:re for example.

Due to Terraformars newly released volume this week, it moved up to 6th past Tokyo Ghoul:re, and Fairy Tail also moved up to 8th past Ao Haru Ride.

The half-yearly manga list will be out in a few days, so I will edit the spreadsheet when we the more accurate results from Oricon are released.

The rest of the rankings will be the Oricon corrected sales figures for the Top 30 manga series, then will continue on with the use of the Weekly Top 10 Manga Series and the Weekly Top 50 Manga Volumes. Manga series outside the Top 30 will of course have the best data we have.

Obviously the sales of volumes hanging between rank 51 and 500 in the weekly lists in weeks where Naruto wasn't one of the Top 10 Manga Series for that week. There's no way of knowing those sales, so its max possible sales was 3,818,953, taking into account thresholds and all.

I think that's closer than SnK and One Piece were for last year's sales. I'm guessing NnT's boost won't last it the whole year to stay ahead.

Fixed the spreadsheet with the half-yearly information being out. Anything outside the Top 30 series, have been set to 1,054,186 for their max possible sales. Obviously the Top 30 series will have its half-yearly sales + last week's information as their max possible sales now.

This is the current Top 10 after 27 weeks which is the half-yearly sales + the sales of week 27, intended for the full year ranking.

Updated for the May 25~31 week.

This is the current Top 10 after 28 weeks. Due to the new volume of Ao Haru Ride, it has shot up from 9th up to 6th. ONE PIECE will most likely win in the end since it has a new volume coming out in July... so Nanatsu needs a big enough boost to even have a chance at holding top spot, even with a projected 3 new volumes coming out this year.

1 One Piece volume is 1,000,000+.

Nanatsu no Taizai latest volume sold 500,000 in the first week. Maybe it can win if keeps releasing volumes. Oda takes a lot of breaks too. So it's possible.

^Actually, One One Piece volume is like 2 million in a single week, 3 million at the end of the year while NNT is (so far) 850k + 50k per volume so it takes at least 3 NNT volumes to match a single OP volume. One Piece will definitely release two more volumes this year except if his hiatuses are really more than usual while NNT will release 3 more (June, August and October, it'll also release a volume in December but that's not part of the 2015 Oricon's year). This makes the chances of it beating OP close to zero, you can even see from Ejc's update that OP is already above it so it was just lucky this half year.

Here is a summary of the weekly sales of Nanatsu no Taizai:
576,558 ← Dec 15~21 (Vol.12 was released on Dec 17)
503,949 ← Dec 22~28
430,564 ← Dec 29~Jan 4
251,345 ← Jan 5~11
212,625 ← Jan 12~18
154,046 ← Jan 19~25
162,034 ← Jan 26~Feb 1
203,311 ← Feb 2~8
223,248 ← Feb 9~15
724,992 ← Feb 16~22 (Vol.13 released on Feb 17)
358,360 ← Feb 23~Mar 1
298,116 ← Mar 2~8
223,799 ← Mar 9~15
179,297 ← Mar 16~22
171,082 ← Mar 23~29 (Anime ends on Mar 29)
164,815 ← Mar 30~Apr 5
<127,555 ← Apr 6~12
391,899 ← Apr 13~19 (Vol.14 was released on Apr 17)
327,994 ← Apr 20~26
157,455 ← Apr 27~May 3
140,495 ← May 4~10
<70,147 ← May 11~17
<80,506 ← May 18~24
<95,842 ← May 25~31

Looking at this, it is fairly obvious that the anime was giving the manga massive boosts. See how the series sales basically collapsed 4 weeks after Vol.14 was released (compared to 7 weeks after Vol.13 was released, and it didn't collapse in between Vol.12 and Vol.13), because it does not have an anime airing to fall back on anymore.

Therefore, we can conclude that Nanatsu has 0 chance (unless it can find another way to boost its sales) of beating One Piece in the full year rankings since both again have 3 new volumes vs 2 new volumes respectively, but now Nanatsu has no airing anime to boost its sales to keep it close to One Piece.
