Not much new CDs interest me, but I'm seeing few coming back CDs. It's actually surprising to see Ban / King CD does better than Meliodas / Gilthunder CD (be in top 100 more than a week, I meant).

Glad for Saenai, Cross Ange anf Amagi.

Really need more Megumi Kato.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

http://www.classzone.com/books/lnetwork_gr08/page_build.cfm?content=analyz_media&ch=30

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

Some storefront (from this magazine: http://www.animate.co.jp/special/charaby/pc/charabyebook/new/) and online rankings (freely available on the retailer's website) for music from retailers other than Amazon. Based on past sales data, Animate seems to be the most relevant, closely followed by gamers.

Animate storefront is dominated by female oriented releases as you'd expect, but it is interesting to see the Love Live! Best Live Collection II outselling everything for the month of March. It's still dominating pretty much everywhere except Amazon, since the Amazon release is really lacking in bonuses compared to the other retailers.

Excellent to see these up there. KanColle selling amazingly well and Saenai selling more than I expected. Shigatsu and Shinmai continuing to sell well is joyous to see.

Also good to see consistent sales for Mahouka, hope it can achieve a 10k average, should be possible with only 1(?) volume left. Deserves at least that. Even Amagi and Cross Ange are selling decently, good week all round I say.

You shouldn't, unless comparing the same time period for different series (eg. week 1 sales of one release vs week 1 sales of another) - and even then you have to be careful as different things can come out on different days of the week.
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.

Well, if you're comparing the number of disks sold, then yes, it's a huge drop.
However, if you'd compare the amount of money they got, it's around the same amount....

Fate/zero was sold as box set too IIRC. The cost is more or less the same. (Correct me if I'm wrong here)

This is what it sold in its first week.

^UBW is more expensive than Zero. There's also the fact that UBW is somewhat a remake which generally means less sales no matter how well received the remake is (see FMA and FMAB).

With that in mind the sales of UBW are just as impressive as Zero's. I don't think the second season will sell as much as the first though, principally because it's a sequel but also because I've read many complains on amazon japan because it supposedly butchered some parts of the VN( like Shirou's character).

Is anyone really suggesting that FSN's sales are not very impressive? Seriously? Trying to make 30k+ sales seem low by comparing it to a prequel that aired in 2011/2012?

30k+ is a lot of discs. So what if it didn't sell 50k? Unless someone shows good/legitimate reason to believe otherwise, I don't see why Aniplex/ufotable would be unhappy about an anime that sold 30k+ discs.

Im pretty sure it will still reach at least 30k. The ones complaining are just way more visible, but in reality they are minority. Also formerly as I've been reading such complains, most of those commenters haven't even thought about buying the series at all, in the first place, not even the first season.

On the side note, as I've realized, disks sales are pretty much unrelated to anime quality and even popularity, it shows re-watch value and the comparative amount of fans. True fans wont abandon their series for such a minor reason.

^UBW is more expensive than Zero.

Not considering the standard ~26% Amazon discounts, it is more expensive by ¥1,080 (¥83.08/ep) than Fate/Zero BD-BOX 1, but it is hardly ground breaking. I don't think it had much of an impact on sales. It is just FSN UBW is considered a sequel to Fate/Zero (technically it's not), but the standard sequel drop is evident here.

FSN UBW BD-BOX 1: ¥42,120 for ep 1~13 (¥3,240/ep)
Fate/Zero BD-BOX 1: ¥41,040 for ep 1~13 (¥3,156.92/ep)
Fate/Zero BD-BOX 2: ¥36,720 for ep 14~25 (¥3,060/ep)
Fate/Zero: ¥77,760 for 25 eps (¥3,110.4/ep)

Not quite the same amount per episode as the standard price of a 1 cour anime... e.g. it is ¥7,350 for 2 eps (¥3,675/ep), but it is up there in terms of price.

Yeah it'll sell 30k but the drop is still huge when its compared to Fate/zero's sales.

Well, if you're comparing the number of disks sold, then yes, it's a huge drop.
However, if you'd compare the amount of money they got, it's around the same amount....

Comparing 1st weeks:
FSN UBW: 33,876 * ¥42,120 = ¥1,427,534,640
Fate/Zero: 42,690 * ¥41,040 = ¥1,751,997,600
Difference: ¥324,462,960

So it did not make roughly the same amount of money as Fate/Zero BD-BOX 1. The gap only got bigger in terms of discs by the 2nd week by the way, 35,492 vs 47,623.

That's true, 30K is a lot... but comparing it to Fate/Zero it is quite a drop. It is all about expectations, as i'm sure Aniplex/ufortable are not as happy as they would've been if FSN UBW had sold the same amount as Fate/Zero. As I mentioned before, it is evident that it has suffered the standard "sequel drop", as 70~75% of sequels suffer this drop based on past sales data.

That's how it has always been, re-watch value is probably the most relevant factor for Japanese buyers, as anime is very expensive as most here already know. Then after that, buyers weigh in the factors of story, character interactions, music, animation, artwork, enjoyment, etc. If the anime strikes a good balance of these factors then it is a buy for them. if there is a significant lacking in these factors, then this will cause buyers to move to something else, as most only have enough money in their budget to commit to 2~3 anime per season.

It gets interesting when there is a highly sought out bonus such as an event ticket (many anime has this), serial code for a game (see Love Live or Deremas), or a game itself (see Deremas, Yuuki Yuuna), etc, bundled with an anime volume. People will in most cases overlook the flaws in an anime and buy the volume with the said bonus and then not buy the rest of the anime. Even then, most anime see the natural decline in sales over the sales of each volume, where you can see the actual amount of people who bought every single volume by the sales of the lowest selling volume.

It's less than F/Z, but more than the previous FSN. But I guess my point is, the number seems a lot more important than speculation about that number. 30k is 30k. I also have seen no evidence that Aniplex/ufotable expected it to sell as well as F/Z. In actuality, the opposite seems more likely because, as you pointed out, the "sequel drop" is quite common, so it seems much more likely that Aniplex/ufotable would or should have expected it to sell less than F/Z. I don't really want to argue about this, but I guess I don't see the problem with just letting the show's fans be happy with its sales rather than downplaying its success or trying to "put them in their place", so to speak. Not that that's necessarily what you were trying to do, but the characterization of it as a "huge" drop seemed to be doing that.

Ejc, you should do those monthly storefront rankings more often.

Online sales from another online retailer, "Seven Net Shopping" (セブンネットショッピング). This retailer actually shows the gender split in sales, which is quite interesting. Love Live Best Live Collection II is popular between both genders, with only ST☆RISH managed to beat it amongst female buyers. Totally expected considering how popular Love Live is amongst females in the 20s/30s age group.

Seven Net Shopping also seems to get a lot of sales for Idolmaster CDs too.
