Why would a shounen company pick up NHK? Isnt NHK something that a seinen company would usually pick up?

The manga was published in a monthly shonen manga called Shōnen Ace. It never was a seinen manga to begin with.

He does have a point though. It's not really a Shounen anime, especially since it's genre focuses around dark comedy and romance.

Shounen/seinen/shoujo/josei only apply to manga, not anime and NHK is based on novel which also doesn't use these 4 four demographics.
