Story of "gyaru" follower Wakaba, fairy-tale-like Moeko, capricious Mao, BL fan Nao

The May issue of Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara Max magazine is announcing on Thursday that a television anime adaptation of Yui Hara's four-panel comedy manga Wakaba Girl has been green-lit. The anime will premiere in July on the Tokyo MX and BS11 channels in the newly created "Ultra Super Anime Time" timeslot.

The story centers around the activities of Wakaba Kohashi, "a slightly out-of-tune super" daughter of a well-to-do family, and her friends. Wakaba (literally, "young leaves") looks like an elegant rich daughter, but she admires the trendy "gyaru" fashion subculture. There is also the pure, innocent, fairy-tale-like Moeko. Mao is capricious and behaves in her own way. Nao used to be an athletic type of girl, but now loves the boys-love genre.

Wakaba Girl will be one of three short anime (along with Wooser no Sono Higurashi Mugen-hen or Wooser's Hand-to-Mouth Life: Fantasy Edition) to run in the "Ultra Super Anime Time" timeslot from Ultra Super Pictures (SANZIGEN Animation Studio, Ordet, Trigger, LIDEN FILMS).

Hara originally serialized the manga in Sōsaku Kōbō's Otome Tsūshin publication in 2010, and Houbunsha then published the entire series in one book volume with an additional final chapter in 2013.

Another of Hara's four-panel comedy manga about girls, Kinmoza! Kiniro + Mosaic, also inspired a television anime in 2013 and a second anime season next month.
