| what series are you even talking about? many series have their japanese name on mal, yet i rarely see anyone use them (tatami galaxy logh spirited away wolf children spice and wolf) otherwise, sometimes the japanese abbreviation is just more convenient(oreimo, saekano), or the english one would just sound weird (ghostory, lull of the sea, monthly girls' nozaki kun) |

| I don't use English titles because I don't like them. Japanese titles are the ones I always use, you won't see me translating a title because its weird and it really annoys me when I see people doing that. |

| I use the English names because I'm English. Of course, if there has not been a translation released, then I will use the Japanese names. I feel that people either do it because that's the way they learn it (by which I mean, it's named that on websites like MAL), or they do it to sound superior. Mostly, though, it's the former. Personally, if an anime/manga is given an English name when it's released in England (where I live) or another English-speaking country, then I will use the English title because, to me, that's its name now. That's just how it works. For example, when I read Crime and Punishment, I referred to it as Crime and Punishment, not Преступлéние и наказáние. It just makes more sense to me. Of course, there are titles that are not translated, such as Puella Magi Madoka Magica, in which case I will use the name presented to me. |

On the flipside if you had an English show with a Japanese translation, then you should obviously use the English title instead |

| If you are referring to the anime titles on MAL I guess its for sake of consistency, but again if that was the case Jojo should be called "jojo no kimyou na bouken" and Tokyo Ghoul should be called "Tokyo kushu". Well idk about people around you but I usually call anime titles in English when saying it and its shortest possible form when typing. |

| I tend to use the one that is more used everywhere. If you use only the english names, it's going to be really hard to find/watch series. Even in MAL lists. I usually use the name that is given here. It took a little time to learn some of them correctly, but it's worth it. Even if you only search from google, you usually get more valuable searches if you use the name that is more commonly used. |

| It's just easier for me to go by the original title instead of white washing everything. Calling it Attack on Titan isn't going to make me pounce on you, but I still call it Shingeki no Kyojin on reflex. |

| Huh, for a second there I thought this was about the Sub VS Dub debate (again) but no, I don't remember seeing much of this behavior. Sure, many people use the Japanese names for anime titles but I don't think less and less people are using the English names. The number of people calling the show Attack on Titan is about the same as those who call it Shingeki no Kyojin. So no, I don't think there is much of a 'taboo' on English at least when it comes to the names of the anime. |
