Some came back, and some interesting new CDs.

FLOW Anime best kiwami rocks that I'm currently listening to it nonstop. And it's interesting that it includes collaboration cover "Blue Bird" with Diana Garnet (or "Garnett"?), who is current Naruto ED singer and an American.

I like how no one cares about Durarara sales
Well no one wanted a sequel for it anyway
Fall still a failure with about 3.8 sale point ( compared to 4.2 in 2013), with just 1 show or max 2 that has average above 10k

The event ticket and half priced first volume is your lie. Of course like 90% of the people posting here will be utterly oblivious to this and get all excited and do their cheerleading but I figure it's still worth noting. Look for the same thing with Saekano next week which uses the exact same Love Live inspired marketing gimmick for it's first volume. Other than that Shirobako seems to be charging forward quite legitimately with only a premium edition collectors box (more expensive but more stuff) and Durarara seems to have dropped off in popularity significantly with it's current iteration having seemingly lost all of it's fickle fujoshi audience to some other title....possibly Kuroke no Basket?

Anyway this will probably be the last time I have anything in particular to say in sales threads for a while unless something legitimately interesting comes to my attention regarding something like happened with Shirobako or Love Live as I feel like I've learned all I can learn regarding trends and marketing and such and it's just ceased to be interesting to me. It rarely has anything to do with an actual measure of the popularity of shows themselves anymore let alone the quality of the shows themselves anyway so much as marketing angles, extras and how you can play the event ticket card depending on what personnel you have at your disposal to be at the event. I think it's directly influenced how seiyuu get cast as well, particularly where fujoshi are concerned. Anyway I'm repeating myself but that's really about all I can say about the subject week after week I've noticed so again bored of the subject.

You don't know about the whole Mamoru Miyano, Kamiya Hiroshi, Yuki Kaji, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Jun Fukuyama thing to name just a few? Why do you think they get cast so frequently? Don't tell me you think it's just strictly because of their voices? If you've followed this stuff long enough you'll start to see some pretty obvious patterns. Maybe you'll see them one day, but I kind of hope for your sake you don't as it really just kind of kills the magic so to speak.

I didn't know Yoshitsugu was popular with fujoshi. Maybe the first two, but it's because they're good voice actors.

Well, most of Yoshitsugu's lead roles are in ecchi harems so I don't see how this has to do with a female audience.

(I realized that most yaoi fans/fujoshi are familiar with seiyuu but it doesn't mean all seiyuu fans have to be into that)

Shigatsu vol.1 is half price+event ticket.
Hope vol.2 can hold better, it's a good show.

You don't know about the whole Mamoru Miyano, Kamiya Hiroshi, Yuki Kaji, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Jun Fukuyama thing? Why do you think they get cast so frequently? Don't tell me you think it's just strictly because of their voices?

I didn't know Yoshitsugu was popular with fujoshi. Maybe the first two, but it's because they're good voice actors. Well, most of Yoshitsugu's anime are ecchi harems so I don't see how this has to do with a female audience.

(I realized that most yaoi fans/fujoshi are familiar with seiyuu but it doesn't mean all seiyuu fans have to be into that)

No it really does kind of work that way when it comes to marketing and event tickets though because you get to meet this people in person IRL and fujoshi will want to meet their favorite handsome seiyuu IRL. Yes some of them are good voice actors, they wouldn't get jobs otherwise, but if you think that's the only reason they're hired well I hate to say it but a lot of it is for political and marketing reasons. Anime wouldn't even be able to sell the meager sorts of numbers it does even now, it's a pretty small time industry for the most part outside of a handful of titles that manage to make the mainstream once in a while like Love Live or Gundam.

There are also anime that absolutely trounce most anime you will see on BD sales lists in terms of actual popularity, ratings and cultural exposure in Japan like Diamond no Ace or Hunter x Hunter simply because they don't qualify for disc sales as day time anime. They simply don't attract the collectors market the same way that the late night anime with it's extras and event tickets do. Anyway not all fans are like that but I grow weary of that being some sort of point that people offer as if to suggest that the points I make have no merit or shouldn't be considered more. Clearly enough do that what I mentioned has become an important and crucial part of the Anime BD market business model otherwise big publishers wouldn't keep doing it and it wouldn't continuously be effective.

The big publishers are also keenly aware that disc sales are a talking point among fans these days and a marketing tool in their own right and would gladly take a hit on something like what happens with Shigatsu wo Kimi no Uso and have to give a little more just to have that number look bigger and get the product more exposure by promoting the topic on blogs like Yaraon. But see this is why this subject kind of bores me now in a lot of ways because it all just feels like marketing and helping to do a bit of the publishers marketing for them too while helping to drive the weekly topics which I've kind of caught onto and don't feel like doing anymore personally.

Lol. See you next week.

Nope, don't think so.

It'd just be pretty much a total rehash of this week anyway just substitute a few names like Shigatsu for Saekano and add Monogatari in there at like 28K whoo yeah choo etc from the peanut gallery. Nothing I could think of that I could possibly add or that anybody could possibly say in the thread that would be of lasting interest to me so there you go that's next weeks commentary prepackaged for if you want to look at it that way. ;)

Honestly though that guy from last week that talked about boring titles and having nothing to say that's not a rehash really sort of made me take stalk and consider a few things. Like when you get no particular rush off of seeing any particular title "sell well" and when it hardly matters anyway beyond what it means for the publisher because of the way the production committee is set up and you feel you've learned all you can learn about the industry by studying the trends of one particular wing of it's market what's the point? I've realized I've spent too much time studying statistics and analyzing the models of this industry in the last year or so and not enough time actually watching and enjoying my actual favorite titles it has to offer so I kind of want to get back to the basics of enjoyment. Maybe it'll give me a more favorable impression of things.

Okay. I see your point. Still don't think it's *highly* correlated as I don't see any stats on it. :C

Isn't Diamond no Ace doing great in Japan though? It also qualifies as a fujoshi money grabber with that top notch voice cast as well as millions of seiyuu events. Still dying to watch that baseball game btw.

Buddy Complex cour 2 was reduced to a 2-episode special due to poor sales so I say yes, the other two cour are in jeopardy. Could be reduced to one or two cour or one and a special.

It's better than your average episode thread for not featuring too much in the way of mind numbing discussion but still not what I would call particularly interesting for me anymore. It was more interesting when I understand less how it works, nowadays I'm predicting some outcomes that most people can't even see based on certain formulas I've developed by studying how event tickets, certain publishers and pricing schemes factor into play like my 1.4/1.6 times formula for Aniplex title stalker predictions. Take any given Aniplex title and multiply it's stalker prediction by 1.6 times for first volumes with event tickets and 1.4 times for any subsequent volume and it generally works out pretty damn close. For example Shigatsu's first volume prediction was 4.6K for BD upon resolution of the stalker tracking. If you multiply that by 1.6 you get 7360. It sold 7348. Using the same formula the only thing I would be curious to see next week at all is if 3151 indeed equals something like 5041.

I think you're thinking of Haikyuu. Diamond no Ace is a day time title that doesn't do anything to take advantage of any possible fujoshi angle it might have garned in the DVD packaging. That said yes it's extremely popular in Japan and is getting a second season too.

Look for the same thing with Saekano next week which uses the exact same Love Live inspired marketing gimmick for it's first volume.

I really don't see how it's Love Live inspired when if anything Love Live S2 is a mimic of Uta Prince S2.. heck both series have mirrored each other... hit first season with a second season that has vastly increased sales mainly thanks to event tickets that bookend the releases.

Event ticket has been around for a while now.... it's just that the two biggest benefactors of it utterly dwarf the effect of a normal one. But I guess they're music anime and going to attend "concerts" is much more attractive than the usual VA events...

I'm not mixing them up. lol
DnA definitely does a better job catering to a seiyuu fan though. Can't go wrong with webcasts on niconico. I haven't really caught up with how well DnA is selling so I'm not gonna say anything about that.

Also, I'll like to mention this since it used to annoy me back when I followed sales back in the day.

While Vol 1 of April Is Your Lie is discounted, it's pretty obvious why. It's a single episode, the majority of the time you see a discounted volume 1 is for that reason. Just going by cdjapan prices....

Vol 1 = 4000 yen = 1 episode
Vol 2-4 = 7000 yen = 2 episodes
Vol 5-9 = 7800 yen = 3 episodes (what a bargain! lol)

Now looking at the recently listed Erotama and Sidionia s2 which are 12 episodes each, six volumes all with two episodes the price remains the same throughout. Cinderella Girls first volume is 2 episodes, so it's a thousand yen cheaper than the following two volumes that are 3 eps.

In the 5 mins of looking on the site the only anime I came across with a true v1 discount was the newest gundam series. 6k for vol 1 while the following volumes with the same running lenght are 7.8k yen.. maybe it was 2 eps with a bonus feature (it's happened before) but I can't be fucked looking since spending 5 mins typing this out was 5 mins wasted as it is.

TLDR - It's not discounted to push sales, it's discounted because it's half the usual content. A true sales discount is NANA Vol 1.... was given away for like 800 yen and sold like 60k because of that...

They are both incredibly popular music series.

We can compare the sales numbers for both their seasons, while excluding the volumes that have event tickets bundled. Both of them still gained a lot of fans in between seasons, even without considering event tickets. Love Live! S2 infact has almost doubled S1, with the non-event ticket volume average.

Another great way to compare is the lowest selling volumes, since it is likely that all people who bought that volume, bought every single other volume. For Love Live! it is 23,672 vs 48,651, for UtaPri it is 13,114 vs 24,831.

I haven't even gotten into the music sales yet, which is one thing the anime is obviously advertising.

Would love to have Amagi sequel. Yes, Cross Ange selling well too.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.
