| It depends on how bad or good the accent is and who the character speaking is, really. If they're supposed to be a native English speaker and they're horrible at what's supposed to be their own language I can't stand it. If it's a character whose primary language isn't English I can cut them a bit of slack for an accent. I've heard bad and good examples of both in anime. |

It really just brings to life how vapid, awkward, empty, boring, forced, unnatural and completely awful the script is when you hear it in your native language. If this doesn't make you cringe, you objectively have shit taste. "Rin says you only swim free........ Hah-ruh. You only swim.. free?" "Y-euyes-uh" "So it's true.." .............WTF bullshit is that? Who would say that? What the hell does that even mean? Why is that supposed to be deep? It honestly sounds like something a fucking 2nd grader came up with. Is this supposed to mean something? Why are they all acting like that exchange made any sense? WHO WROTE THIS?? WHY DO THEY STILL HAVE A JOB? Not even mentioning the terrible mouth animation not matching up AT ALL with the dialogue. And either they hired the fucking dirt cheapest english voice actors for that, or they actually tried to have a japanese person speak in an australian accent. |

| If the character isn't supposed to be American or English then i do not see why it's a problem if he/she doesn't have the expected accent. But if his suppose to be from there then it seems a little stupid since the accent is so different but i guess if the character also speaks Japanese is hard to find a voice actor that can speak both languages with their accents and fit the character so is no big deal. I do get slightly annoyed with English speakers making a big deal about it every time in Anime discussions and half the posts start speaking about the Engrish instead of what happened in the damn episode! They are foreign with an accent that doesn't fit the English language at all so why are you making a big deal about it? Have you heard yourself trying to say Japanese words? You never pronounce anything right. You speak Japanese every bit as bad as they speak English. Even a simple name of a show that is popular as fuck and every time an American tries to say the name, he/she always put the emphasis on the wrong letter in the word. Is fucking NarUto not NAruto. Imagine having to say lots of words. Every time i hear an English speaking YouTuber trying to say the names of Japanese characters or shows i get a cringe overload. |

| Anime is supposed to include a little Engrish from time to time. Even though it can turn a serious scene into unintentional comedy, it seems like it needs to be there. It can sound quite ridiculous when a character who is supposed to be a native English speaker uses terrible Engrish - it totally spoils the mood, but usually in a funny way. On the rare occasions when I hear good English, I am generally shocked, because it is so unexpected. I have also heard some German so terrible that I can hardly tell that it is German. I can imagine that German would be very difficult for native Japanese speakers to pronounce. When people try to speak languages that they don't know well, the results can be quite funny. I know that when I try to speak French, I butcher the pronunciation, and it probably sounds ridiculous to a native French speaker. |
