That's like saying "I had no idea the sky was blue". The Japanese live for Persona (as do I).

I will purchase a PS4 the second that Persona 5 is released.

Less than 200 more to 15k for Nina's CD, good times

Sailor Moon Crystal, it just can't sell, if Toei cut the CG, and made the animation decent, maybe it could've sold also that bi-weekly schedule was bad after all, it strained the fans and didn't produce the high quality it really deserved. There aren't any figures using Crystal designs, that tells you it's bad.

51. *1,238 *56,189 Nana Mizuki "Eden" (incl. Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryu no Rondo ED "Shuumatsu no Love Song" and Dog Days'' OP "No Limit")

Even better news, it's sad that the ED for Dog Days" is so average and a letdown unlike the first two seasons where they were nothing short of excellent.

God damn im so glad we may finally be at the end of the milking of persona 4, it was a fine game but it long overstayed its welcome in stride, i just hope they dont do the same to 5 even though i know they will(though 5 looks way fucking better so maybe that one deserves to have more done with it)

Go shirobako we need more anime like that, workplace slice of life is something id love to see pick up in anime. Fafner still selling way more than i was expecting it to.

From what I heard, it keeps selling out so its final sales number is going to be higher than what it is currently. Think Warner Bros and PA Works is going to be pretty pissed off that they had vastly underestimated demand for it.

cant they increase the amount of BDs to sell for the later volumes

Honestly I swear these days I pretty much call bullshit on Aniplex sales reports. Fans in Japan find the numbers of a lot of their stuff increasingly sketchy too and how no matter what they seem to slot into this 5-8K sweet spot every single time regardless of whether people even seem to like the anime or not, which in this case they did not. Some Japanese fans have even gone so far as accusing them of buying back their own stock of releases in order to maintain a certain average and look good enough to investors.

Granted you're also talking about a show based on a massively popular RPG franchise this is down something like 350% over what it's first adaptation did only a few years back. If the production committee is satisfied with those numbers so be it I guess, but I just never understood the point of this adaptation even getting made personally. It serves no promotional purpose really for the franchise, it didn't even do all that well by it's adaptation standards, nobody really seemed to like it all that much.

I question the legality of that practice. If it's not, then it's a huge grey area.

Fans in Japan find the numbers of a lot of their stuff increasingly sketchy too and how no matter what they seem to slot into this 5-8K sweet spot every single time regardless of whether people even seem to like the anime or not, which in this case they did not. Some Japanese fans have even gone so far as accusing them of buying back their own stock of releases in order to maintain a certain average and look good enough to investors....
Speaking of BS and conspiracy theories, can we have one actual quote made by a Japanese fan who is claiming this please???

I question the legality of that practice. If it's not, then it's a huge grey area.
Aniplex is part of Sony, a publicly traded company. Cooking books like this is not a grey area at all for them which is why I call BS on this BS.

Granted you're also talking about a show based on a massively popular RPG franchise this is down something like 350% over what it's first adaptation did only a few years back. If the production committee is satisfied with those numbers so be it I guess, but I just never understood the point of this adaptation even getting made personally. It serves no promotional purpose really for the franchise, it didn't even do all that well by it's adaptation standards, nobody really seemed to like it all that much.
lmfao what BS is this

anime sales have increased through out the years because more otakus and openly otakus report states that 20% of japan considers them selves otakus

sales happen when anime is good

lol with the animation its been sporting I doubt it what makes you think it would have better quality when they can't even make it look good with bi-weekly releases? Hell even the covers themselves have weird anatomy and I looked at the TV/Bluray comparisons they fix something minor while something like the anatomy of a characters arm/body hasn't been changed.

I never read the manga or watched neither the original or Crystal and I can tell how bad the remake is from posts I seen on tumblr and comparisons. What a writing and animation disaster.

Glad to see Man with a mission's song up there. Really catchy and great. Glad to see Fafner's 'Exist' song doing well too. Underrated as hell (Anime that is).

Nice seeing Shirobako selling well. Maybe PA Works should just drop the high school dramas and focus on more adult settings; they seem to do them quite well.

Love Live still going strong of course. Hopefully NISA gets the Season 2 set soon.

Do you just not realize that every year that passes since Persona 4 comes out, interest and demand for it as a franchise gets less and less pronounced? Its been years since the game came out. You cant expect it to be as popular as it once was.

Also I wish people would stop buying Expelled From Paradise.

What happens when that ugly animation is in tv anime?

Yes it is. It was slow ugly 3d models running at 10 fps on an even uglier 2d background. Sure it's fine for one movie every now and then, but a year ago it never happened. Ever since ARS Nova this cheapo 3d stuff has been getting more and more common.

The cgi used there is pretty cool compared to most cgi-based anime these days.
Ofc its getting more popular, because its much cheaper and easier to make (low quality cgi), than drawing everything by hand. And you can expect that soon every anime will be Cgi based, or Full-3dcgi, anime industry approves that.
Its not like I'm defending it, because i myself like 2d drawn anime much more than cgi, unless cgi is really cool, like in F/SN for example. Mainly because of inhuman motions of characters. To make high quality cgi costs way too much money. So simply enough, we need to get used to it.

Honestly at this point I'm fully convinced that Japan will just instinctively buy anything with the Aniplex or Gen Urobuchi labels slapped onto it. They've pretty much figured out a game at this point where they can play it safe and do nothing in particular to warrant it and still have the content they carry sell extremely well. It's really put a limit on the potential of the market and is starting to look like a borderline monopoly. Like either get your ideas under their heading and play things their way or languish. As long as they are the ones promoting an idea or coming out with some particular marketing angle it just seems like fans have decided that's perfectly okay. It's a pretty bitter double standard I just see no solution to and it's only going to make anime more homogenized and streamlined in the future I fear. At most you might get a lot of the hyper stylized flashy stuff that contains little in the way of substance that seems all the rage these days.

Anyway popularizing CGI through Urobuchi and marketing is just one item on the laundry list of things they've been doing this decade that are making anime shittier and shittier. I'm more concerned how they are turning everything they touch into a cynical cash grab that thumbs it's nose at fans at the fact that it's doing this and then people support and praise such content as being masterworks for some inexplicable reason and enable them. It's just rewarding bad behavior, but the way the anime fanbase just seems so trained and complacent with the status quo I only see it getting worse.

Oh it's definitely going to happen, I just again see that as the least of the problems facing the current industry.

The only thing I've seen being stepped up of late is the marketing aspect and knowing how to use popular names to bait in audiences. That's why sales have increased and frankly there's more cause and evidence to make a case for a massive increase and restructuring of how anime is advertised and the types of demographics that are being targeted than there is for anime getting particular better which is an entirely subjective notion anyway. When you also consider that late night anime that play it safe with established franchises and popular names are on the rise and that anime isn't just something targeted at kids in daytime slots who don't really spend money on discs so much as merchandise and that there's been a steady increase in the number of anime being produced over the last decade or so (with dips in the post recession years of 2009 and 2010) of course you're going to see an increase in overall sales revenue. Doesn't mean the shows are universally better by any standardized (ha I kind of laugh that I even used that word) measure of quality, just that more is being made and it's being marketed with more razor efficiency. Also anime sales are still utter peanuts compared to just about every other entertainment medium in Japan. That means there's room for growth naturally, but it's still well below the kind of revenue print media, video games, music and live action content generate annually.

Other than that it's just kind of business as usual. Also none of the things you say strike me as even remotely positive or as things that should be championed. People enslaving themselves to cynical idealism is a horrible thing that is only going to bite Japan in the ass in the long run.

For the record I also don't consider myself an otaku. I take an interest in anime, but I refuse to confirm to some lifestyle and rote set of behavior and buying patterns like other people do. People can call it being hipster if they want, but that's where I prefer to draw the line and what I consider a rational approach to entertainment.
