I think people become adults at 21. I see 20 as a weird spot between teenager and adult, similar like that preteen/tween spot between child and teenager. Yeah someone at 20 will no longer be a teenager but they don't have all of their rights yet so I wouldn't consider them an adult.

Legally - 18/21
Physically - 20-25
Mentally - depends on your definition of adult

you don't have all your rights at 21 either. can't rent a car until you're 24. can't be president until you're 35.

Mentally grown up you can become even at 14 years old. Or the opposite, after 30.

It all depends on how shitty your life was. The more shit you had to go through the earlier you become an adult. I can relate

I find most adults dumber than I am. Adulthood is a concept after all.

I actually think 25 is a good age. Even when you're 21 most people are still not that mature mentally.

Nooo, I'm turning 21 this year and I don't want to be an adult yet. :(

Honestly I think it's different for everyone, though I think most people make the transition into adulthood before their 30's.

I agree with both of you @Bambi_ and @zoron. More than 20 but less than 30.

Guess it depends on the person. But I guess mid 20s maybe? I don't feel like an adult at all being 19.

When they pay their own bills.

I wasn't an adult until I graduated and got a real job at 23. Your college years are usually just an awkward transition between being a teenager and being an adult.

The concept of adolescence is ridiculous, 14 should be the norm, grow the fuck up and stop being dumbasses until your 30s.

Some mature faster thus becoming more suited to be called an adult faster
but for others i say the age is around 20+ once you are out of school and into
the life afterwards whether you be going to college or to an apprenticeship you are
pretty much on your own.

Around 30

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse.

Tbh, just because you're at a certain age where it is socially safe and/or acceptable to say, "This person is an adult." is quite dumb.

Even when you're 18 or 21, you might be generally accepted as a grown man/woman by society, but that doesn't mean you're grown up as a person (personality wise, mentally, emotionally, etc.). I know a lot of people who act like what most people think people my age (I'm 15 btw) usually act. Most people who know enough about me know I'm mature well beyond my years.

I have my moments of immaturity and naivety, sure, but everyone does at some point. At some point down the line, you're going to act or realize that you may have acted inappropriately as someone who is considered an adult by society.

And I think that's when you really start to grow up and change into an adult. When you realize you've fucked up in your life and you want to change, that's when you start to grow up tbh. And that can happen at any given moment in a person's life. Some people might take years, decades even, to realize this. And by the time they do realize it, change themselves, and grow up, they're like in their 40s to 60s

But some people, like myself, realized it early in their life that they're big, immature idiots, and by the time they were legal to drink, they grew up to become a pinnacle of society.

Anyway, my point is age is not a measurement of mental and emotional maturity. In a physical sense, sure, but most certainly not the former. The only way to gauge the maturity of a person is through impartial judgment of value and character, regardless of subjective idiosyncracies like age, physical appearance, etc.

And how do you do that? The only way you can do it: get to know them.

If I had to pick an age for legal purposes I guess I'd go with 18. Obviously the answer to this question is: it varies.

Really, my best guess would be "adulthood" is reached once you've been self sufficient for a few years. You can be as cool and mature as you want, until you've taken care of yourself for a while you won't be there. Having to be aware and take care of EVERYTHING, even the small stuff, is what I'd say being an adult really means.

Being 18 years old doesn't make you adult it's just a legal age of consent I have a few relatives older than 20 years old but still acting like a child

By learning how to be more mature when you're younger though, when adulthood finally hits you, you'll be more prepared to deal with it than others.

The earlier you learn, the better you can deal. By learning how to be more mature at a younger age, you're enabling yourself to be more successful once adulthood hits you. The only people who act cool and mature are those who are the exact opposite of cool and mature and are just doing it for social status, like all the other worthless teens my age.

Since the end of puberty and adolescence changes from person to person it might be difficult to find one age after which you can consider people adult.

Plus judging people by their age isn't really the most surefire way of determining the value and character of a person nor is it the smartest thing to do.

Its the same as talking shit about a stranger who's sitting by you in a restaurant or talking trash about some 14 year old you met in a chatroom on the interdweeb.

18 is legal age of consent in my country too but as I said my point is being 18 years old doesn't necessarily make you adult. It's merely a age limit to determine whether person is adult or not

I see, so you mean, if though they're adults they don't act like it? Or don't deserve the title adults?

The legal age of adulthood is 18 here. It's quite good age, where you should take some responsibility of your actions. But mostly it means that you are allowed to buy alcohol and cigarettes and go to bars and night clubs. It other words, behave even worse than few years before.

The mental adulthood comes when it comes for each person, slowly. I don't consider myself an adult yet, even if I'm over twenty. But I'm not in that irresponsible wreaking-havoc-state, either.

You are an adult when you start taking responsibility for yourself and, especially, other people. You'll know when that happens.

If I was serious though I would say that its not age which determines becoming an adult but experience and wisdom.

Physically in your late teens, I'd say. I generally don't consider people 'proper' adults until they're out of their 20s, though. Maybe even later if you're an immature shit. Some creepy manchildren never mature at all.

It all depends on the individual.

Sometimes, age means nothing. I've seen people in their mid teens act like adults, and I've seen people in their mid 30s act like children.
