Soo...are people still trying to justify this after this episode?

Animation was bad. Like World Break episode 1 bad.

They've taken all the parts from the Dr.Kanou arc and just threw them into Cochlea for the hell of it. The story has like zero focus now. I'm actually surprised they didn't throw Kaneki's manga team (minus Kaneki) into the mix just because.

All of Kaneki's character development is gone. It's just gone, gone...completely nonexistent. Remember that Kaneki who formed his own team, became an expert strategist and information broker, kicked ass in fights, then when he lost, practiced and read and practiced more to learn from his mistakes and greatly improve his technique? Yea...that fucking badass doesn't exist anymore.

Now we have a Kaneki who literally did nothing but be a support character on missions for 3 episodes, and then all of a sudden can go half kakuja. We'll just totally erase his characterization that explained he ate dozens and dozens of ghouls over x period of time.

We still have the Kuro x Shiro vs Juzou fight going on, but at this point it's guaranteed that they are going to brush over that fight insanely fast and probably show very little, if any, of the backstory connecting the 3 of them.

The ONE thing in this entire show they changed that I kind of liked, was the Shinohara vs Ayato fight, with Shinohara activating the Arata. Now at least one of the siblings knows what happened to their dad. It was a nice touch, but I like they way they presented it to readers in the manga better.

In there they gave you bits and pieces (vaguely talk about Touka's dad, briefly mention he was a full kakuja, have CCG talk about the Arata armor, show Touka holding a wedding ring from her dad that says Arata inside of it), and then you put the picture together.

I'm just glad that the manga is already over and done with and fully fleshed out. Because this is the story Ishida originally wanted to go with, but changed his mind and wrote the manga the way it is now. Honestly this story is terrible, if Ishida still thinks this version is better than what he already wrote he's a fucking fool. Aside from the ending of the manga, and the handful of things that haven't been fully developed in :re, the story was masterfully written. This on the other hand...just...no.

Your overreaction is laughable.

Why is this season such garbage.

The anime original scenes are boring, and the adapted scenes are adapted poorly.

You're trying to defend the indefensible.
I like Tokyo Ghoul as much as you do but this episode, and the complete adaption thus far has been BAD.

The only good thing this has brought to the table is the opening, the ending art and Ayato seeing the Arata armour.

How is it bad? I won't argue about this episode though because it had its glaring flaws but the last 3 episodes were better than the whole season 1 both in terms of overall pacing and character development.

Yeah, the first 3 were better than majority of season 1 but still this is a pretty underwhelming adaptation:

Manga scenes skipped and badly portraited.
Kaneki is like a complete new character. I get this is a "different route" but a big portion of Tokyo Ghoul's beauty is the way Kaneki was characterized, through his actions and his toughts, as well as those of the people around him.

Here Tsukiyama is just some freak while in the manga he had other interesting characteristics. Other example is Naki. Here he's just some crying little kid and that's it.

They're not adapting from the manga anyway so I don't see how that's bad.

We haven't seen enough of Kaneki to even judge him yet. The only thing we know so far is that he wants to get stronger by any means possible since he still blames himself because of the death of Hinami's mother. You should note we're still not halfway there yet so there's still time for Kaneki to have his development.

Why are you so quick in judging something? We've hardly seen enough of Tsukiyama for more than 1 or 2 minutes and Naki was always a crybaby even in the manga. I mean his name means "crying" ffs...

This entire episode's animation is so shitty it's almost laughable.

Actually, I laughed really hard throughout the entire episode that I forgot what it was even about.

It felt to me like the soundtrack didn't fit with the scenes in this episode.. or was it always like that?
The fights also were too boring and the way they were fighting seemed lazy.

Good episode.

But i do feel a lot of rush things going.

Nice to see Amon's past and the priest, i do remember he was an orphanage and Mado did mentioned it when recruiting him.

Shachi seems to know Rize quiet well. Though they didn't explain why they were rescuing him in the first place :O

The fights were kinda disappointing. I look at it and there slow moves, like when one person attack the animation slows down to see the attack which is boring and kinda predictable.

Just look at the Akira vs Naki battle. And why would Akira just stand there and get bitten, why didn't Mado helped her in the first place? It's not like he was facing someone that he couldn't get to Akira in time.

So Kuro and Shiro's true names are Kurona and Nashiro as well as Juuzou as Rei.

Love Rie Kugimiya's voice as Juuzou XD

So Shinohara is Ayato and Touka's Father all along?! Wonder why he left them?? Was it because he knew they were ghouls?!?

So Kaneki turned into an insect? To be honest i notice his dialogue is very few as hell. Like we barely here him anymore compared to Season 1.

Oh well, i can't wait for the next episode though :P

mmhmmm, that explains a lot.
Other than Kaneki being in Aogiri, so much of this just seems like I already saw it (because i did)

Okay, i just laughed out loud at this, no offense to Ange, of course.

Ayato and Touka's father is Arata - the armour Shinohara activated was his former ''kagune'', which is what Ayato recognized.

Arata was already introduced in season 1 of Tokyo Ghoul, during a Touka flashback.

Heh, they were trying to make Kaneki's fight's more dramatic with that music? ... nice try. Decent action though. Interesting thing with the twins I guess.

Yeah, but this season so far has been trying to make Kaneki distant and mysterious from the viewer. Why would you do that if the charm of the story is the main character himself?

They have left out good amounts of development to his character. Most of it happen fight after the Aoigiri arc.

Because Tsukiyama and the others have been taken out of the story, the interaction they had develop pretty well every character. Even Banjou. Now they are just pursuing Kaneki.

Let me ask you this: Are you happy with the way this two seasons have adapted the manga? 'Cause I'm certainly not.

Eh, the animation in this episode seemed a little low-end. When the episode has that much fighting in it, it's impossible to not notice the animation.

So, everyone is talking about a centipede now, I don't know what's going to happen, but I'm looking forward to it.

How is everything the same? We never saw a cochlea raid in the manga. Hinami never went alone to meet Takatsuki. We never saw how Naki escaped from CCG in the manga. And we never saw how and why did Shachi join Aogiri Tree in the manga.

Everything is not the same here

Who knows? I won't judge his character in this route until the last episode.

Yeah their interaction was removed because this route will not follow the manga and they're not the main focus here. Right now they're focusing the things from CCG point of view so both of them will get their fair share of development sooner or later. There's still a lot of time for those two.

Avok said:

Other than this episode, yeah I'm pretty satisfied with how the things are developing in this route and I don't care if others aren't happy. They've given pretty good information which were missed out in the first season and we get to see the interaction of different characters that never happened in the manga.

You'll obviously be disappointed if you expect things in this route to be exactly the same as the manga.

aogiri guys getting shot and.....die? just a silly question here but there arent humans in aogiri, are there?
also i found kaneki and shachis fight a bit misplaced and out of no where 'hey, im setting you free', 'oh you wanna fight, me too, come at me', 'explaining the situation is for pussies'
btw, fights werent that exciting.

naki seems a bit entertaining anyhow

the centipede seemed underwhelming or...."meh" for some reason.

.......i miss the coffee club

I agree to this guy on some parts, especially the random fight of Kaneki. I was just like, what the fuck?

And I do agree that the fights are boring. Feels like they spend less budget here or something on this episode.

At least in the manga there was an actual reason for Kaneki's fight with Shachi

It was kinda odd that Shachi just attacked Kaneki out of nowhere for the purpose of having the circumstances of Centipede's emergence be roughly similar.

The other thing that seems kinda odd is the fact that Kaneki developed a Kakuja despite only cannibalizing Yamori. I was under the impression that the only way to actually develop one is to consistently cannibalize, and Kaneki's only half-manifests after eating hundreds? of ghouls.
Behold! The way is clear! We're free! I, the mad scientist, Hououin Kyouma, have triumphed under a twofold assault, from SERN and the Organization, by twisting the very fundamentals of time and space! The world as we know it has been put to rights, and a future of chaos awaits us. This, my friends, is the choice of Steins;Gate!

I guess people fail to notice that after Kaneki went through the wall and opened his eyes, their were dead ghoul bodies in front of him. Look at the scene again and pause it at 21:51, you can see arms and a head. Cant really blame people for not seeing, i mean it was a blurry scene. Kaneki pretty much got his Kakuja from eating alot of dead ghouls

Don't make me facepalm dude. This has nothing to do with the manga. Even if a manga never existed this would still be horrible.
Crappy animation and technical department and most of all horrible directing. The scenes luck any atmosphere and presentation etc. Events as just thrown and no effort is being done to engage the viewer and make feel something about them.
The whole thing is a mess.

Stop overreacting. Its just one bad episode they outsourced and its not like this will happen again.

Sorry but i disagree. The lack of good directing and atmosphere has been there from he start. So many scenes and characters were just thrown and not properly presented from the first episode of this season.
They were countless scenes where i was seeing them and i was wondering "why is he showing this events in such matter? They completely lack impact and emotion."

Why didn't Chochlea's people make preparations to fight the ghouls instead of sending normal humans with guns?! I mean they're holding ghouls as prisoners, they should expect such an attack at any time! especially since Aogiri is so strong!

It feels like an unfair battle! only a few men have quinque, and there's a huge army of ghouls attacking!

Also, why are the fight scenes so slow?! with today's technology, they can't make one of the most popular shows of the year with a better quality?! I'm not asking for FSN's kind of quality, but seriously even 2008's shows have better fight scenes! I'm a bit disappointed.

looks like ishida got teamed up with the newbies in this anime.

seriously? a piano bgm for a fighting scene(kaneki) like that? its awful imo. and that random fight with sachi, i guess sachi is thinking "im gonna rekt this kid because its fun and i wanted to without asking first why he came to free me"

and, who hired a VN bgm composer for this anime? the scenes lacks impact due to improper bgms imo

(sorry bout my attitude, its my first time commenting in anime discussions)

Not sure about the action scenes...They seemed a bit lazy-made

Ghouls are easily falling down by gunshots?

Why Amon is standing there and letting Akira get bitten ?

Fight between Kaneki and Shachi was much more better in manga.

Good things are ost and the last scene.

Except that he's not. The same thing happened in the manga when they fought for the first time and Shachi is a bikaku SS rated ghoul which is a natural weakness to Rinkaku ghouls. Seriously how could you not know this when you've already read the manga?

The music that played during Kaneki and Kamishiro's fight didn't do it justice. Such a great fight but so down-beat was the mood because of the BGM :(

Oh well, at least we got to see Kaneki in action at last, as well as most of Aogiri for that matter.

OMG Kaneki! The way he looked at the end of the episode!

Amon and Akira fight was the best thing this episode, I don't like TG as much as I used to but I like the fights, fast paced as they may be. Suzuya being a psycho is cool to watch as well.

How I feel about this episode:

But no, really, this episode sucked. They are rushing this anime so much that I can't even have the chance to fathom what is going on and they're already throwing something new to the story. The fight scenes are crap, so slow and weird. The characters look awkward sometimes and honestly it makes me cringe. Kaneki barely says a word for 4 episodes and just randomly gets beat up on the fourth episode. This is quite honestly a mess anime adaptation of a great manga.
