| So a double "good" end is possible. That means to send someone to the void is a positive decision to punish them or rid the world of that soul; it's not possible for someone to get sent to the void just because they "lose" to the other person in some way. I wonder if epsiode 3 is too early for the unexpectedly nice story, though, especially since episode 2 was a repeat of the story from 1 to give exposition. It hadn't really established a pattern of tense, unpleasent stories. There was something clever about the childhood flashback it used several times; until the end it's roughly in a first-person perspective; Mai doesn't appear because the scene is seen through her eyes. in that sense it's obvious the woman wasn't Chisato. |

The Good Mask is the Void The Evil Mask is Reincarnation They were both sent to the Void People are conflating this with Abrahamic Religions in which Good is Heaven Evil is Hell but I think this anime is playing more off Hinduism/Buddhism Reincarnation is Suffering Void is Nirvana Their souls have achieved satisfaction, they can exit the cycle of suffering together. |
