I really loved the Kodocha English dub, I think Funimation did an awesome job and Laura Bailey made a perfect Sana. Why did Funimation drop the series halfway through? The second half of the show remains undubbed and even the episodes that actually were dubbed have gone out of print.

Because it didn't sell well enough. Just like with Sgt Frog and Detective Conan FUNi tries these very long shows that just don't have the big appeal to continue. Which is a big shame because I love these shows.
The reason they tried Kodocha was because of the success of Fruits Basket. However Kodocha is old and much longer. It was a hard sell.
It is very disappointing, Laura Bailey was so great in the show.

Yeah, Laura Bailey was amazing.

I feel like Funimation set up Kodocha to fail. When they originally released the show they were releasing the DVDs (which were $30 a piece) with only three episodes each. That's insane for a long series. I couldn't afford to pay $10 an episode for a 102 episode series and neither could most fans. I bought the sets when they came out later on, and I can't help but think that if they'd just released sets instead of individual discs they would have sold more units overall.

Don't mean to necro, but this ANN article might actually be the reason why:

The funi release had a toy just like this, and it's also a long running series with some popularity during the VHS-fansub era. Additionally it had the same director and elements as Fruits Basket.

Oh god, I feel sorry for this guy and everyone involved on the project if it was that bad. If Kodocha was indeed the true anime behind "Mechanical Godless RINNA-CHAN" then I imagine the chances of any company wanting to bother with it ever again is slim to nil.

i was just sucked into the internet black hole regarding kodocha and i found out that there were most likely problems with the merchandise and the licensing companies. it’s honestly a pain that such a good show didn’t finish its english dub adaptation and serializations due to something as small as merch. in my opinion at least
