Feel free to say it's bad. I love myself some melodrama (AnoHana, Kokoro Connect for example) but Shigatsu has problems that go way beyond liking drama or not :/.

I don't see how Shigatsu is that much different from your mentioned ones. Besides we haven't even seen half of the show.

Higashi_no_Kaze probably talking about the previously hot bullying and trauma handling issues about Shigatsu. That topic has been one of the hot "controversial" topic regarding Shigatsu.

Anywaaaaay... I found this interesting blog post regarding the "counter" of this issue. If you want to try to check it out, kindly click this blue sentence.

HOW TO SAVE ANIME IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS

  1. To have Mars of Destruction, Skelter Heaven, and Pupa properly adapted in TV series form by Madhouse
  2. To have Inferno Cop properly adapted in TV series form by Bones, director: Urobuchi Gen
  3. An anime crossover of Mushishi x ARIA x Haibane Renmei.

Should even one of the above conditions cannot be done, anime is still at risk.

I would have to say "Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu". I just love how shinichi at first is shy/nervous and then he starts becoming a badass. the opening and background music in the anime is fantastic as well. 2nd place for me would have to be shigatsu wa kimi no uso for the art style and music.

Change your forum avatar pic to Kiseijuu, and that'll be very fitting ^^

Really hard to decide.
Mushishi, Kiseijuu and Shigatsu are all 7/10 for me.
Mushishi because it's Mushishi and it's better than Zoku Shou 1, almost as good as '05 Mushishi.
Kiseijuu because it's so fun to watch and I like psycological. I have thrills while wathing it, I never know what to expect next.
Shigatsu has beautiful classical music and likeable characters.
Well I have to vote one so I'll pick Shigatsu because it has the least votes of the three.

Amazing season overall.

Episode 4 is where it's at. With your logic, Clannad doesn't deserve to be watched either.

I'm liking Shigatsu's over any of those other shows tbh. Having a central theme that I can relate to helps a lot.

Something about Gonna Be The Twintail that just clicks with me. Maybe it is the similar humour, but I find that show hilarious. I know I shouldn't be liking it as much as I do, but it's definitely what I look forward to the most each week.

I'm saving Kiseijuu too so I can marathon it this Christmas, so while it's probably a better show, I haven't seen it so I couldn't vote for it.

Well, first, it's adapted from an old manga.

Second, there's less obvious flaws (with Shigatsu, it's like "ohh the characters are bland" and "let me argue that the story is wrong because they're bullying him").

Third, it doesn't rely on making you feel and cry (which is much harder to do in general, like I said hit or miss) while Kiseijuu is just thriller and a few other things which are easy to accomplish with the strong foundation it has.

Fourth, if someone doesn't completely understand classical music or gist, they might not* fully appreciate the show.

*I say might not because lots of people without experience LOVE the show.

Consistency, most likely. Seeing from how the manga goes, Kiseijuu has a pacing and story consistency while maintaining its fluid action scene. And no melodrama. This, however, add a lot of point to the critical perspective.

And it doesnt. The only reason I gave it a 8 is because at the time I was in a weird phase of rating anime. As in I didnt like the show too much, but I thought "Its like spanish tellenovela its supposed to be all melodramatic and make the viewers all touchy and crying, and I guess it does that well so lets give it a 8." That was my thinking back then. Would i recommend Clannad today? Hell no.

I really like a ton of the shows this fall, but my favorite has to be Gugure! Kokkuri-san. Most episodes have me laughing throughout, just like Sabagebu! of last season.
I rarely revisit threads, so if you're after a reply you should PM me or post a comment on my profile.

Shigatsu is a lot better imo, but you probably won't love either shows seeing as your faves are mostly trippy abstract shows.

As I said I generally dislike melodrama or heavy drama in general. The only exception really being NANA, which I loved. And it was about music too. But it had 1. Good characters which where also grown ups, 2. While it was "heavy drama" it wasnt melodramatic , atleast it didnt feel to me like that.

And yeah I love trippy abstract shows. If done well.

Nana is more like real life, I guess that's why. Shigatsu/Clannad/similar shows are more like pure/innocent and "theatrical" if that's the right word.

Oh, check out Honey and Clover if you haven't already. It's like Nana's realism plus more bittersweetness.

Yeah exactly, I dont like the theatrical kind. When it comes to drama I prefere realism by a long shot. Nothing annoys me more than drama where I feel like its unnecesary. Makes me cringe every time I watch.

Well Ive heard alot about it, so I guess I really should do it. I am not that big on romance altogheter because of above mentioned reasons so I tend to neglect the genre a bit. Havent watched a romance anime in about 9 months now.

Don't worry, H&C is more SOL than romance actually. The romance is like the icing on the cake, makes it better than just friendship and drama. It's the kind of stuff you would imagine real people face.

As bad(?) as it is, Terra formars actually do quite well in Anitrendz. The latest place it got was #23.

I'm surprise Nanatsu no Taizai only have 3 votes. before fall start I thought that one would be top 3 anime of fall. then I was wrong(but I was predicted this season wrong bit much, I predicted Terra Formars would in top 5 and Shigatsu would not even in top 10. and see it now lolol) so people don't like fighting show, or manga-fanbase(before anime start) hype was just a dupe.
