Depends on the series.

Mostly everyone I met who watched Tokyo Ghoul has read it before >.>

Mostly everyone who's watching Fate has had prior experience (if that counts) esp with the VN

Here a lot of people watch anime but don't read manga while in Japan its the opposite. Anime is considered kids stuff but manga is serious business.

Probably not too many as a lot of anime watchers find manga to be less engaging.

I prefer anime and completed manga. Not that I don't have a good number of on-going manga series, but I'd like to have at least a volume or two released, before started reading.

This season, the manga series I've read before their corresponding anime, were Parazyte, Mushishi, Terraformars, and Denki-guy. Had evaded Yowa Pedal and Diamond no Ace manga, because I prefer the action in anime, anime-only series don't count, VNs I don't count, so yeah - not that much it seems.

Hrmm, processing all of this I would have to say an educated reply would be 7.5% with a deviation of 2.5% based on this group.

Depends on how popular was the source material before getting an adaptation.

i am under the impression that, while these shows do have a higher percentage than average of people who've read the manga/vn, they are still more of a vocal minority (10-25% or so)

I think I've done it for one anime and that was Fairy Tail. Read it when it had 140 or so chapters out and then a TV series was announced and decided to catch that.

I almost never read the manga before I watch the anime, from everything I've seen it tends to ruin the experience.

This is an anime board and a lot of people only watch anime. On some other forums I often go to, most people read manga and don't watch anime, especially the popular titles.

Low percent. Personally, I don't like manga as much as I do anime. If I have a choice between reading the manga or watching the anime, I'd rather watch the anime. Now if the anime was really good, then I'll read the manga from where the anime left off... unless there will be a second season, then I wait.

There's no way to really know, but the percentage of people who comment on the episode threads here who have read the source material has gotta be high, at least 75% I'd say just from my casual observations.

I believe Hybrid observance is the best policy. Look up the wiki, watch the episode, check the discussion, read the spoilers, and prepare intelligent comments!

Depends on the audience, but I would be shocked to find out that the average pre-show manga/post-show anime audience ratio was more than 0.1. Audiences don't favor manga when it's the same price as anime (due to rampant piracy making both free), and there's also a bigger list to sort through since manga is cheaper to produce.

It could conceivably be higher in Japan, but it's unlikely to be 1/1 - we see big boosts in manga sales for the lion's share of adaptations, presumable because anime introduced people to the series: http://animetics.net/2014/05/23/fun-with-numbers-anime-as-manga-advertisments-in-2013/

I think very few, even though I have read a lot of manga, most of those manga don't get an anime. There are just so many manga that deserve an anime.
But the feeling I get from Shoujo (more genres but Shoujo is a good example) manga, is that they adapt one of the worst to an anime. Seriously, Tonari no Kaibatsu kun? Sukitte ii na yo? Ookami shoujo to kuro ouji? I don't get it. Japanese people seem to like the cliches.

If its a a series that hasn't come out yet for anime, I'd probably read the manga for a preview of whats going to happen.

its all about the show,
for example long series - usually full with filers and a big waste of time
so i rather read the manga.

The only way I could read mangas is if I bought them or read them online, so there's no way I'm ever going to bother with them

reading online just isn't the same; I need that "gotta flip the page" sense of urgency to read books or I just cant' do it and I sure as hell am not going to waste money on a glorified comic strip that won't last me more than half an hour

It'd be pretty low because personally speaking I've only read all the way through D. Gray man before watching the anime. Granted if a manga attracts my eye before the anime chances are I'll read through before the anime but Manga reading isn't that huge with me.

Then there's the anime watchers I know where I live that don't read manga at all and then I have to explain it to them. So yeah, pretty low 3% maybe

I usually watch the anime first, then instead of watching it again I read the manga. The only mangas I have read before the anime are D.Gray-Man and Bakuman.
Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my leg... and my arm... even my fingers. The body I've lost... the comrades I've lost... won't stop hurting... It's like they're all still there. You feel it, too, don't you? I'm gonna make them give back our past."
