It has been announced that Sidonia no Kishi will receive an anime movie which will be a recap of the first season with additional scenes and re-edited sound effects. The movie will premiere in March 6, 2015 and the second season of Sidonia no Kishi will then air in Spring 2015.

Update
The source of the scan also mentioned that Blame!, another series by mangaka Tsutomu Nihei, will also be animated as part of the Sidonia no Kishi series. The adaptation of Blame! is expected to be animated within the eighth episode of the second season.

Re-edited sound effects? They want to make them better? Is that even possible?

Am I reading this right? They are animating a manga in the Sidonia no Kishi movie?

A Biomega adaption would be pretty damn sweet, I can imagine that on noitaminA.

Why can't Blame! get a full TV series adaptation? Anyways, definitely looking forward to this after I've read the manga a few weeks ago.

Nice to hear about Sidonia too.

Because the atmosphere, pacing and storytelling is unique and extremely hard to adapt. nevertheless I am also interested in efforts to actually bring it onto the screen. The past ONAs and OVAs were rather meh, though.

I'm also kinda confused though. What does it mean by "within a movie"? Does this mean that Blame! and Sidonia will be part of a single movie?

Yes. Blame! is part of the Sidonia no Kishi recap movie.

Is "within the movie" bad phrase to use? It is written 劇中アニメ化 in Japanese, which means animated "within" (inserted).

Nearly all of Nihei's manga seem to take place in the same universe. No idea what the intent behind this decision is, though.

Being part of the Sidonia movie probably means it will be in 3d CGI... Then again, Sidonia handled that fairly well. It all depends on the direction, really.

Fair enough I guess. I'm somewhat confused by the article though. It says "within a movie" so I'm assuming it's a single movie rather than two? Anyways, looking forward to both. edit: question has been answered.

I need to read Biomega someday too.

It's not that it's a bad phrase, rather just that it is a confusing idea. I've never heard of anything like this done before.

It could be similar to how with those Pokemon films they have a short, indirectly related mini-episode as part of the whole movie experience.

Surprised they're re-doing the sound considering how good the sound editing was during the series and finally, Blame gets its movie. That's been floating around in development hell since the original OVAs.

That Blame movie better be 2.5 hours with less than 30 lines of dialogue or I'll be unsatisfied

Maybe they just wanted to let the sound department do some work. Not like they'd be doing much in the BLAME! part.

BLAME adapted? Mind blown.
I wonder how they will handle the 'film within a film' bit. Maybe what's happening in Blame is all another seedship like the Sidonia, going off in a completely evolutionary path?

And by "oh my god holy shit my nipple oh my dick oh my scrotum," I mean "COOOME OOOOOOOOOONNN."

When will BLAME! EVER get a proper adaptation??? A movie AIN'T gon cut it. What makes this piece of news even worse is that both Sidonia and BLAME! are in the same topic. Meaning that BLAME! would most likely be done by that Triangle shit studio as well.

Why do they do recap movies? What is the purpose other than to use money?

"Hey, assbutt!"—Castiel, Supernatural

"Do you ever have a problem where you just don't know how to reply to an argument-- not because you don't know the answer, but you just don't where to begin? Like, the foundation of knowledge you'd need to impart to this person before you could even begin to drag them out of their sinkhole of ignorance would cost thousands of dollars, if it were coming from a University?" -MAL in a nutshell.
