Right in the feels. That last scene was just so touching. Touched on the Shadow that is Akane and now she's back... Just so beautiful.

The oppressive atmosphere held throughout the episode was so very real all the way up to the quiet, perfect ending, it was just remarkable done.

This was absolutly marvelous, i was holding back tears this episode, this series find the right spot of human drama that manages to always connect with me, there is no doubt in my mind that this is the definition of a perfect series, every single episode is an emotional adventure of different proportions than the last, not a single episode of this show has even been ok, everything is either good to masterpiece and this last season is on route to be the best of them all. This show is perfect
Could not agree more, this last season is doing unbelievable things right now with no let up.

One of my favorite episodes thus far from the Mushishi series.

Note to self: Mushishi Zoku Shou Season 2 Episode 3 is a "re-watch" worthy episode. lol

Perhaps I was being controlled by a mushi myself for putting this off for so long, Mushishi does it 3 for 3 this season. The agony and regret that Mikage and Youkichi had to face was truly daunting. I had a feeling Youkichi would be confronted by Akane once more and it really moved me to see him begging to her and desperately wanting to undo the lifetime of her absence. That ending was really eerie, Akane's childhood friend shouting "Akane has come back!" just sent shivers down my spine, especially knowing that Youkichi is now forever lost as he'll probably stay within that mushi to atone for the feelings of guilt he faces, despite never being in the wrong.

As for the lack of opening, I actually like how they're going straight into the episode now. The music is beautiful but it gives me that extra 90 seconds of scenery porn and beautiful atmosphere.

This series is going out with the bang. I'm just truly FEELing every episode so far.
It's definitely resonating more with me than the first Zoku season.

I don't know for you guys, but after this episode I'm sure I'm enjoying this season the most. I haven't read the manga so all the seasons were interesting up to this point but this one... just have something special, I don't know. :) I also enjoy the 'no opening' part. It makes the anime more consistent, maybe...

Holy sh*t I got goosebumps. So much feelings in this episode I can't even begin to describe it. The best episode in Zoku Shou so far including the first season of Zoku Shou!

I don't know who to feel sorry for, all of Yukichi, Mikage, and Akane are just so tragic :(

8.5/10 for this episode.
Isayama Hajime should be awarded The Manga with The Highest Inconsistencies of Characters' Appearances.
He keeps performing multiple plastic surgeries on those Shingeki No Kyojin characters in a SINGLE chapter.
Yes, I've read up to the latest chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga.
Forced myself to read through the kidsketching chapters after the anime's ended. At least from now on, I only have to go through the hell once a month.
Patiently awaiting SNK TV/movie/OVA anime-sequel.
The 2015 SNK live-action movie would probably suck.

That ending... oh goodness... the feels are real in this anime. I really did not expect that at all.

Only thing that didn't make sense: it showed a girl being consumed by the shadow twice, but it happened in two different ways. In one scenario, the girl sees a shadow, assumes it belongs to someone, runs up to it and asks if it wants to play shadow tag. In the other, the shadow creeps up on the girl, and the girl turns around and asks who's there. I assumed one shadow was Akane and the other was Mikage, but Akane didn't take anyone's shadow... but Mushishi is too flawlessly produced to have a storytelling mistake like that. What am I missing?

e: nevermind, I'm guessing one of the girls was Mikage being overtaken by a random shadow we were not introduced to, and the other was Mikage taking Akane's shadow. No idea which is which at this point though.

Wow Akane is such a sweet girl. To not step on anyone's shadow for such a long time. It's nice that Akane get's a chance to live her life now but she won't be the same Akane she was before and it's unfortunate for Youkichi, I wonder how long he'll stay a shadow before he caves in.

Great episode 5/5.

"OH MY GOD!!! " - I kept on saying this during the last scene until somebody from the village yelling that Akane is back. I assume that old woman was her childhood friend for her to recognize that easily.

Man, this is genius. One of the best episodes of Mushishi.
So much feels.. Damn..

Great episode 5/5.

Ginko did say the dusk world and this one are supposedly different worlds. My guess is time moves a lot slower in the dusk world than in this one, so she'd probably not been in that world for long before managing to make it back here. She might not have even recognized the old man to be that male friend of hers from "so long ago".

I feel like I should get a medal for getting through this episode without shedding a tear because I'm not sure I've had a harder time not crying as I did by the end of this episode. I suppose I have to thanks Crunchyroll & my internet access I guess, as I didn't get a perfectly fluent streaming experience (it was mostly good though).

This is easily my favorite episode of this cour, funny considering last cour my favorite episodes were 3, 6, 9 & 10. I wonder if the pattern will repeat itself again? Either way, it doesn't entirely matter because this season so far, has probably been the strongest so far & that's beyond impressive. I don't even think words such as "beautiful" do episodes like this justice anymore.

I Wonder if stepping on a shadow of someone on the verge of death will be ok, will you take his place and die, or will he still die as a shadow.
I was thinking to step on a criminal shadow or so but then that criminal will do the same and comes to kill me or something.
Anyway a really good episode.

This is an out-standing episode. Sweet, funny and sometimes heartbreaking. I particularly love the funny music used when Ginko carried the old lady on his back. I believe the name of the song is 蠢動(しゅんどう) Shundou (I'm addicted to Mushishi soundtrack btw) Man it's hilarious ;)
I'm a sucker for strong female characters.

I just finished this episode of Mushishi T_T

I only started Mushishi a week ago and although some episodes made me tear up, this one is making me cry a lot. The moment Mikage heard them talking I knew it was going to hurt. But I wasn't ready for that scene in the forest at all. Her guilt and her tears plus Youkichi comforting her and reassuring her made me cry a lot. But the ending with Youkichi sacrifice and Akane the little girl who decided not to step on anyone shadows for all these years...

I broke down, still have some tears. Everything about this episode was stunning, character interactions, the dynamic between Mikage and Youkichi, Youkichi sacrificing himself at the end. It was absolutely beautiful. What's hitting me harder is the fact that Youkichi might die with that mushi since he's so old. I don't think he's ever going to step on anyone shadow.

Only started Mushishi a week ago but everything about it is a 10 from me. Every single episode has had me so deeply entranced by the series it's amazing. 11/10

Mushishi gets better with each episode of this season.

I don't know if Youkichi stepping in for Akane works though. The ending was AMAZING, until the part where Youkichi steps on the shadow. It could have been just a neutral bittersweet ending instead of a grim-dark tragedy.

I really love that typical mystery feeling when it comes to mushishi. It's been funny to see the illustration of old people in a marriage. They really do fight each other because of trivialities. But later on the story went so deep it sent shivers down my spine all the time. A really beautiful and still kind of frightening story. Almost like the one with the siblings who lost each other (don't know the exact episode anymore).

What a tragic tale of unfortunate events. Makes one wonder who was the first to start the cycle and how it was done if there was no one before them to step on their shadows.

All these bittersweet episodes hitting dem feels. At least she was able to come back although it's still sad that by now her family has passed away. At least her childhood friends still remember her.

This episode... It made me emotional more than any other. I literally shed a tear there. First time I ever broke into tears for any form of media I think, mostly I just get teary-eyed.
The concept of shadows (both plot-wise and art-wise) was amazing and the perspective of stepping and being stepped on was remarkable as well.

I just... mushishi is incredible. End of story.

Ginko's reactions are gold, and so was this episode! From what I understood, Akane became trapped in a different realm than ours, one separate from our time and space. What left me scratching my mind was, if people switch places, how did the first person ended up there ib the first place?
