According to Excite News, Sanriku Railway held "National Tetsudou Musume Summit" on November 1st. Tetsudou Musume is a character series representing Japanese local railways. Figures of the Moe characters in the motorman uniforms have been released since 2005 and they got novel and manga adaptations. PR staff of the local railways gathered in the summit and had workshops such as "Kawaii Saves The Local Industry".

Tetsudou Musume Official Website

Tasso Takuya, the Governor of Iwate Prefecture, wants to use one of the characters Kuji Alice for the promotion of the local railway of Iwate.

Governor Tasso revealed that he has her poster in his office and said "Kuji Alice is our wife (Uchi no Yome)".

Poor Alice. Being a wife of the whole government office must be hard. :/

Anyway, Tetsudou Musume are cute. They should've made an anime about them instead of those bishie Miracle Train guys.

I'm sure the governor is sad that the railways themselves, and himself, aren't 2D..

I wish things like this started happening outside of Japan.

What a nice way to promote their rail transit. They not only get mileage for their company but maybe get percentage from selling those figurines....Waaahhh - I want all!

Well, "our wife" here (note: our) probably refers to the benefits the railway brings the city.

Still, :p

Lame.

If he meant it, he would have said "our waifu."

LOL news. Only in Japan.

But back on the subject, I think "uchi no yome" is nice use of expression to describe their "mascot".
bla bla bla
The endless debate between fans and haters. At one point, after spending a lot of time on MAL, you just realize it's totally pointless.

Moe is pretty awesome, but I prefer Ralph Wiggum."The doctor said I wouldn't have so many nosebleeds if I just kept my finger out of there." "The leprechaun tells me to burn things.""...and then the doctor said both my eyes were lazy!"

Why are otaku so hated in Japan, this seems like something that should start allowing them to come out,

Come out Otaku, the governor is one of you!
