Favorite Makoto Shinkai film
| Probably 5 cm/second. At first, I did not like it at all because I was too fixated on my opinion of the boring characters but after a few rewatch the message it was trying to convey became much clearer and it struck me deeply because I had the same experience. It was wildly different from your typical romance anime in a sense that it compromises characters in order for the show to evoke strong feelings of emptiness and loneliness of drifting apart by time. I still think the girl in the second episode was irrelevant. It could've showed us more of the Akari's perspective instead of focusing on a new girl. |

| I've watched 5 cm/s and Garden of Words and I dont understand what 5 cm/s is about, LOL. nevertheless, I can enjoy Garden of Words better, even though the story is mediocre and mostly driven by the visual. |

| After the first four disappointments I just gave up on watching anything from Shinkai. This guy wouldn't be able to write a decent conclusion to a story if his life depended on it. The Place Promised in Our Early Days is the best of the lot that I've seen. |

| The only thing Shinkai is truly great at is lighting. The lighting is always beautiful. And, yeah, the backrounds are nice too. But that does not make him a good storyteller or even director. As always, MAL is masterful at overrating. |
