Last night I told myself I'd just watch half of Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 then finish it later this week. But it sucked me in and I finished it all last night, and the ending left me totally dumbstruck. I've teared up a few times, but that was the first time I actually just cried, very pathetically, for most of an episode. While it wasn't exactly pleasant, I am very glad I got to watch something that hit me so hard. And outside of Air, I haven't ever really gotten that emotionally effected by a cartoon. So, I would like you MALers to do what you do best, and recommend me some more shows that will make me sob and sob like a good majority of lifetime's viewing population.
Tl;Dr THE SADDEST SHIT YOU EVA SEEN. especially if it involves siblings.

Grave of the Fireflies is supposed to make people cry though it didn't quite work for me. Then again, i didn't really like the protagonist in this case so it might work out for you since it involves siblings.

Spoilers.............................................. I am three episodes from crying then... Thanks Baman.

Only show I cried hard during was Clannad ~After Story. I can't really seriously recommend anything else. The bad thing is that you'd have to sit through 40 episodes until it gets good (first season + AS =/).

Kanon 2006 made me sad the first time, but it was only sad twice during the first 16 episodes. I was just hoping it would end after the 2nd girl's arc - so boring =/.

Kanon 2006, from the same creators as Clannad and Air : ) its beautifull and sad too. but not very sad

and there is: Saikano wich is FCKING depressing and sad. but the animation is ugly. but its very sad, so if you dont mind the animation and want something sad, id say watch Saikano too : )

[Edit]

BY THE WAY! its not an anime but: 1 Litre of Tears is SOOO sad :*(

its even sadder then Clannad After Story and Air, but its a japanese drama series. it has 11 episodes during 45 minutes per episode and its so sad. id recommend you to watch it its very good and a great tearjerker.

its the only thing that i watched wich was as sad as Clannad After Story and Air

Hmmm... Depends on what you're actually looking for...
Now and Then, Here and There - oh so depressing
Grave of the Fireflies - most people cry
Infinite Ryvius - you may wish to crawl into a corner and whimper like a pathetic kitten
Saikano - yeah...

Barefoot Gen - oh shit...

The episode of Pokemon where Ash lets Butterfree go. Your tears will not contain themselves.

Other than that:

Grave of the Fireflies
Clannad After Story
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Honey and Clover II (well, you'll need to the watch the first season, but the second made me bawl)
Mushishi
Dennou Coil
Witchblade
Haibane Renmei

And anything by Yuasa Masaaki, Shinkai Makoto and Miyazaki Hayao.

I would say the episode where Misty leaves them would induce tears, but I was full of RAGE more than sadness. Especially since they got May and her fail bro to substitute.

Dojikko and shota do not compensate for a tsundere of Misty's calibre.

*tears, but of rage*

Ash loses/almost loses his best pokémon. That bastard conscience, once you've pushed an animal-like thing in a tiny ball it should be yours forever!

But back to topic: The only anime that ever got close to making me cry was Tsuiokuhen, but that's probably not what you want.

Suzuka hasn't been mentioned? You may find the main character clingy or annoying but the music makes up for that

Megumi

Megumi Yokota was abducted by North Korea in 1977 when she was 13 years old. North Korea acknowledges abducting her and at least 12 other Japanese residents during the 1970s and the 1980s, but the country has not provided any conclusive evidence on her fate and most of the others.
