They really upped the art and animation quality for this episode. They OST was used reallyy well also. This felt like a last episode.

I had my hand on my head in awe after Hinata spiked the ball with how amazingly-well that scene was executed. Then he got blocked, and I was in total disbelief.

T__T

Amazing match!

This episode had me holding my breath in anticipation all throughout. That match was incredible because both teams would not give in and fought bitterly for every point they got. Since this was wrapping up the season I wasn't sure what the outcome would be so I'm glad that it had me guessing right to the end. That meal at the end was really powerful.

That gave me goosebumps even though I know they'll lose because it's quite obvious that they can't finish the Inter-High preliminaries in just 2 episodes. Still disappointed. :/

Kageyama throwing his cape and crown was a touching scene.

Ah man they lost! I didn't expect them to put this twist here... not even in my dreams. Nonetheless, it was a breathtaking match, one of the best ones ever animated if not THe best. Kageyama and Hinata are really shocked.

Nice speech there by Takeda-sensei. Later, the food-eating scene... It was so beautiful.

Have no words for this one.

I'm not sure how I'm supposed to feel about this episode, I hate it and love it at the same time, Why couldn't they have won it's so disappointing to watch them grow like that only to see them lose by a couple points.

I've been convinced that sports anime never disappoint and Haikyuu! is the reason why. It's amazing how they were able to take volleyball and put it on the same intensity level as other sports.

I love the way they finished off this episode. It was a bitter sweet ending, because in my opinion they had to lose. In order for their team to get stronger and understand what was missing they had to lose.

Wow.. just wow.
They actually lost.. I never saw that coming.
It was like winning flags raised everywhere lol.
The last part.. so frustrating.. the sadness.. I can feel it.
Now I can't say for sure there'll be a sequel waiting. T^T

Wow, I really didn't think they'd lose the match. I thought they would qualify to go to Nationals at the end of the season. The dinner at the end was indeed hard to watch.

Wow, that loss really stung. Losing to someone as cocky as Oikawa, and then having put all that hard work in the end just to be defeated by a block. But it really was a great match. And I think Karasuno more than proved themselves to everyone that they're strong and formidable.

That eating scene at the end though...I'm crying with them. ;_;

This is the last match for the third years right? Does that mean we won't be seeing sugawara playing again...

It means more new characters will be introduced. I hope so.

Shimizu is still as irrelevant and useless as ever, heck what role did she play? She didn't even 'service' at all. I wouldn't mind. kek

Ahhhhh it's so bittersweet. I knew beforehand they would lose but it's totally different seeing it animated.

The character development is amazing. Oh god, I was totally late getting on the Haikyuu bandwagon.

i guess expecting the team to win is always hopeless, especially in the first season... point taken in kuroko and in daiya no ace (the latter being much more heart wrenching). ;---; damn this is why i cant watch sports anime. after daiya, i really wanted to watch a sports one that finished on a better note OTL

You could tell that they would lose based on the amount of episodes left. There wouldn't be enough eps for further matches.

I did not like this episode not because they lost, because it was end of season 1 and story changed and 2nd season has not come yet.
I am the type who waits for anime to end and then watch in marathon

Honestly, I didn't see the loss coming in the manga. But even if didn't already know this was gonna happen, I understand why it had it be this way. A win wouldn't have made sense either way, especially with that episode count. And I'm so satisfied with how it turned out in the anime, the bittersweet feeling really comes across. Win or lose, the matches are always bittersweet, it's cool how you find yourself rooting for everyone. And so many important things happened - Kageyama's character development, Takeda Sensei's words to Kageyama and Hinata (really cool moment imo) and how it opens them up for more development, and then the last scene with them all sobbing hysterically while eating (bless that scene, bless this anime and it's gross/cheesy crybaby moments). And even the characters in Aoba Josai, they were really well done, even the heaping pile of trash that is Oikawa Tooru, he's such a good character. He's so terrifying and ridiculous, and in the end there he acknowledged Kageyama.

I'm just so satisfied, and we still get one more episode, and an OVA is in the works too (WHICH I'M HELLA PUMPED FOR BECAUSE I'M PRETTY SURE IT INVOLVES NEKOMA). I'm super confident in the possibility of a season 2. The manga is doing well, the anime did well, and the plot possibilities are there. It'll fall in place in time. *Sighs* though, one more week. I'm gonna miss looking forward to new episodes. Definitely gonna rewatch when it's all finished airing, and will probably reread the manga too.

I'm rewatching this and it's nice to look back on my thoughts when it first aired
I feel exactly the same, the start of the episode gave me goosebumps, and I've just become even more appreciative of this anime.
And now I can look back on this knowing that we're getting a season 2 and absolutely loving the direction that the manga is taking too.

For real though, I feel like I'm actually watching a legitimate Volleyball match, I'm so enamored and pumped up, even though I know how this all ends.
I had goosebumps the whole time watching this, and even cried with them all in the end too. This goddamn OST really gets to me, and the vocal talent adds to the emotion too.
UGH THIS EPISODE IS STILL A 10/10 FOR ME,
AND SO IS THE ANIME.

Whoa, and here I thought they were having a match against Nekoma 0.0'' I seriously thoght they were going to lose to Nekos and to that genius, Kenma.

But well, there's still one more episode, a OAV and season 2 in october, so we'll wait and see!

Anyway, felt sorry for Karasuno, of course, but I'm quite happy for Oikawa. He was a dumbass, yeah, but I kinda understood him.

Zentensa said:
this last episode were a pure waste, i feel tricked.

why the fuck loosign after 23 fuckin damn episode.

fck it

Well I don't know, maybe because it's not some lazily written story where a team just steam rolls through a tournament to win just because it's the MC's team??

Karasuno is a team with lots of potential but it's still pretty rough around the edges so even if they had beaten Seijou they would've still had to face more tough opponents, some which are probably tougher than Seijou. Not to mention that a lot of the members are freshmen and have been part of the team for just a few months.

It's nothing near a waste of time, just realistic. Just because you try your hardest and want to win really bad doesn't mean that you'll be able to beat your opponent. Probably has to due with the fact that your opponent wants to win as well.

Episode very nice, although I've got left at the end for some tear sadness and beyond. Good game, exciting and never predictable until the end. Beautiful drawings and animations, characters always excellent in their expressions. At the end I really thought the Karasuno would win the game.

this episode made me cry the hardest I've ever cried for an anime. I did NOT expect that ending, I honestly thought they'd would prevail. the part that really hit me hard and made me cry was 1. seeing Hinata being really depressed (when his hand was limp to shake the opponents hand with after and when he sort of just walked out unsmiling with his head down) and 2. when they all started crying

I actually had to physically stop the episode and cry because it was so heartbreaking. even tsukishima looked on the brink of crying and he's not that emotional. this was the second hardest I've cried in a year. this episode killed me, both physically and emotionally.

Why am i exhausted and desperate as if i was the one who played and lost the match? The loss was obviously expected but I was still overcome with sadness and anger when the ball hit Karasuno's side of the court for the last time. Special mention for Oikawa and his ultimate flashback power serve.
That little sequence where Kageyama and Shouyou got back on their feet after their sensei's speech was also beautiful to watch.
And ofc the restaurant scene was heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time.

Fuck, this show is just too great.
