...Could be the most important thing to say to anyone curious about this title. In fact, that cover, as well as the illustrations, were removed from that title as it was published again in a different edition.

And THAT was a really good choice, as those illustration/covers are just misleading and unappropriated. That title has a really heavy ambiance, dealing with harsh realities and cruel behaviors. It was a really good read; and I'm glad that the version I own didn't have any picture, allowing me to not get distracted/not get the wrong idea about this title, which start with an extract from a journal about a girl found murdered and cut in small part. From the start this title is clearly showing you that this is not going to end well. On this point this remind of hotaru no haka for example.

I really enjoyed this little novel, it leave you with sadness yes, but a strangely sweet one, like... a sugar bullet, or a lollipop, maybe. Anyway, definitely a must read.

Totally agree.
I stumbled upon this manga or short story because I found the name unusual and so it woke my interest. I started reading it and really got sucked into it. It's very mysterious with interesting characters and tradegy. You will probably feel a bit sad in the end but it's worth it considering how good this story is.
It's short and you can read it in one sitting, you won't be disappointed. It's also one of my favorite mangas because it's so real and touching. You really feel for the characters.

Absolutely recommended!
Can't think of a good enough signature yet... I'll get there eventually.

Thanks a lot! I loved the manga and I almost didn't give this novel a chance.

Does the novel have any differences from the manga, plot-wise? Might start reading it later.

Replying to the comment after 2 years... The manga adaptation is pretty damn good. The art is fantastic and it really gets the point across. Although it does skip a few small things. The LN focuses a bit more on Yamada and his growth. The theme of "Stockholm Syndrome" is discussed a lot in the LN, but I don't remember it being mentioned in the manga.

Pseudo-lesbian misery porn with meaningless black and white victimisation done just for drama's sake.

that was heart wrenching I didn't expect to read it in one sitting
the feeling of powerlessness overcame me at points, viewing the world through a child's lens
at first I didn't like the foreshadowings throughout the earlier parts of the novel, but I think that was definitely something that contributed to the continually extending and excruciating affect
I'm happy to see what happened to the brother character tho
I'm glad I chose the novel first, I don't know when or if I will be able to read the manga, I dont know if this story is that rereadable u know
It’s time to ditch the text file.
