First of all, I love that gif :) It's perfect.

Anyway, since you haven't read the novels, I don't know how far I should go to try and make my point but just in case you don't mind being mildly spoiled, here's a question;

This can be easily explained. Tatsuya simply has bigger fish to fry. He can't be arsed to deal with smalltime shit when he's got infinite energy to create. The school's apparent problems are child's play compared to the goal he set for himself. That's why he acted the way he did. He's a big picture kinda guy I guess.

But I addressed this point quite a while ago, though not here on MAL:

Bio said:
The final straw for Ryan was the destruction of Hiroshima with the atomic bomb. In his eyes, the bomb was the ultimate corruption of his ideals -- science and determination harnessed for destruction, creating a weapon that gave the "parasites" the ability to destroy anything that they could not seize.

That's the truth.

That magic is a curse and should be exterminated is the manifesto of hardcore anti-magic groups like Blanche. Where the author plans to go with that is unknown, though it would be good if he goes the route you suggest.

I remember during the first arc when LNs readers were saying how better the next arc would be.. lol.

Well, I certainly see why. If we look at it from reading perspective there is much more going on, there are new and interesting characters and there is another bit of world building.
Now, if we look from anime perspective, there is...well, what we have.

As anime, this show gets on my nerves really fast.
If this was VN (since I am too lazy to read LN) I would read hundreds of hours of this with pleasure since Mahouka World seems complex, fubar when it comes to mages having control, downright oppressive to some etc.
Mahouka has all the things necessary to be great, it's just that anime doesn't take any of those and just focuses on everyone glorifying Tatsuya while giving halfhearted explanations to everything else.

I believe LN is great, I do. It's just that no one can convince me the show is not horrible.

Speaking of worldbuilding in VNs... have some Muv-Luv Unlimited. Probably one of the few instances where exposition is engaging and adds flavor (especially since we have our world to compare it to).

I think it's just the execution. Most LNs read in that sort of dry manner. There's a difference between something like SAO/Mahouka and actual novels like Hyouka/Shinsekai Yori.

And it's been 2 years since I finished MLA. I still get feels just thinking about the journey. Even the OST triggers memories [and tears].

I wouldn't drop the term "realistic" because Mahouka will never be realistic due to the presence of magic that would make comparisons difficult.

If this was the least bit realistic, Japan in the Mahoukaverse would've starved to death during the food shortages they witnessed.

Why in the hell were the participants of the Mirage Bat/whatever the fuck that game's called wearing those magical girl cosplays? I sure hope there's a male equivalent of this stupid event, and that the boys get to wear ridiculous mahou shounen outfits as well.
Of course Tatsuya would easily talk down his female senpais who dare ask him politely to participate in the last game, and of course super manly broad-shouldered Jûmonji would be the one to talk some sense into him.

Man, the way this show loves to degrade his female characters is so in-your-face, it's not even funny anymore.

Anyway, nice episode. Not sure about the new OP and ED, but the OP sequences basically confirmed that Yokohama arc will be in this season, like most people already predicted.

Nothing happened this episode.
Absolutely nothing.
Another match after we've seen so many other pillars break matches already.
Look, honestly, I love plot development, and I really appreciate a good story that the studio spends time over. Problem is, this isn't a good enough story that's WORTH spending time over, and they do not compensate at all with awesome battles and stuff.
Tatsuya fighting the Crimson Prince will be cool. But it could have happened FOUR EPISODES AGO and I would have had the same reaction. I just can't get myself to care at all about this school competition.
Also the way that A-chan realised Tatsuya was Taurus Silver... that was very bluntly executed. She has this revelation out of the blue. It's not dramatic. There's been no build up to it, or grand mystery. Just "Taurus Silver is totally MLG but Tatsuya is way MLG OHMY they must be the same."
No matter how mad Tatsuya's skillz are, it doesn't mean he's freakin' Taurus Silver (even though he actually is). Does A-chan really think it's impossible for someone to simply just be good at engineering? It just seems so implausible that she would come to that certain conclusion...
Oh well, I'll keep slogging through this series. At least the graphics are nice.

I know that but you can't deny that what LN readers were promising isn't exactly what was given. It seems much prudent to just let them say what they want to say without engaging in any dialogue that has the potential to be used against the fans in the end.

I was blind during that time and liked SAO, though it was around ep 14 (hey, like the ep Mahouka is in) that I started to dislike it. I still think the 1st half was okay. But yeah, I didn't learn anything out of that because I didn't hate it enough back then ;P

@Millie: I did drop it after this week's ep. I only stuck up with it for so long because I was hoping something would happen, but I gave up. I fail to see why this is so overhyped. At the very least SAO and SnK had lots of tense moments and overly dramatic dialogues, whereas this is just... a snooze fest.

From what I remember it was more dramatic in the LN when A-chan put the pieces together. And yes it is impossible for it to be anyone else because that level of skill is only possible to Tatsuya. Feels like something interestng might actually happen within the next episode or two, what with us seeing that table of schemers trying to fuck up 1st highs plans, and now Tatsuya actually being forced to go against these two bad-asses which may actually give our lord Jesus Gary Stew some difficulty.

The background of those two dudes seems very interesting, the crimson prince seemingly having actual combat experience using this magic system which is cool. And we learn a little bit more about the Mahouka world history through that very short little flasback thingy of his.

But I do agree with some other posters though, it has dragged out too many episodes that seem to have little to no purpose for whatever reason. Even if we do get to some real good stuff in an episode or 2, that still means we had to wait over 1/2 of an anime series to get to that which is inexcusable.

EDIT: That opening seems to be hinting that we will get some good stuff at some point if that's not just stylzed shit that won't happen in the actual anime. I saw them fighting a mecha looking thing too, that looks cool

The incest was strong with the new OP and ED emegerd. They're nice, but I like the first OP more. The upbeat tune of Rising Hope gives me some 'yeah yeah alright oh yeah' vibes XD

It's funny that even after 14 episodes, every time they suddenly explain a spell or something I'll go "Wait wait wait wait stahp i don't understand" /replays scene

The feels when Shizuku lost. Miyuki's too powerful, I know. /pats

As much as everyone says "It's finally Tatsuya's time to own the spotlight" or anything along those lines, I'm excited to see Mikihiko in the front lines. That guy has some self-esteem issues. (To be honest I think he's my favorite character here and I don't know why. Relatable, maybe?) Of course there's also Leon, too. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to the Monolith Code contest against Suzaku er, Masaki and George. This battle will be tough.

The last few pages are all talking about a Yokohama Arc or something. . . Ugh, makes me want to read the LNs.

Not a bad episode, looks like we will be seeing some badassery coming soon.
