There isn't much anime on TV in my country, but I watched Pokemon as a kid. However, I didn't get hooked untill a dude recommended me Bleach on a forum. After that I caught up to the big three, and started watching shorter series, and I'm still hooked today.

I watched Inuyasha and Yu Yu Hakusho, pretty much Adult Swim and old Tonami stuff for a long time but I didn't know that it was anime or from Japan until Naruto.

I was playing Ragnarok Online with a friend close to ten years ago and he sent me the first three episodes of Naruto over AIM. It hadn't come to the US yet so I discovered Anime came from japan and that there was A LOT of it. Good times.

Cardcaptors.
I watched the first season in English, and when it was over, found out about a second season in JP.

Well, Evangelion was the first anime I watched more than 3 episodes of, and the show itself had more episodes than all the anime episodes I'd ever seen until that point. But I watched Evangelion not because I liked anime per se, but because I was intrigued by the controversy surrounding the ending (as I've said before I decided to watch it after a long night on the Bioware forums arguing about Mass Effect 3's ending and a long session on TvTropes).

The first anime I watched (and the second I ever watched) that showed me that anime isn't all weird tentacles, high school kids and incest, and could actually be well written, grounded and entertaining was Steins;Gate. It's also the reason I don't hate dubs; I couldn't stand Evangelion's dub, and with that plus the generally negative reputation dubs have I was automatically skeptical of any dub I considered watching. Luckily, Steins;Gate's dub is fucking brilliant (yes, it is, I know there's a bunch of fanboys/girls that always tout the superiority of the Japanese dub but you can shove it, you're wrong).
Anyone who doesn't hate anime hasn't watched enough anime.

Ranma 1/2

Someone gave it too me to watch when I had nothing better to do.

Same. Ranma 1/2.

I still remember when my sister came to me in a hurry about this "cartoon" she just saw on tv with a panda and a girl that changes into a boy, a total crazy mess, and how we need to watch it the next day together.

I'm in the same boat that I watched a lot of anime when I was a kid and didn't realize it was anime. Mostly stuff that aired on Fox Saturday mornings like Digimon, Monster Rancher, Escaflowne, etc., etc.

I don't think it was until I got a little older when I started to REALLY get into anime. I think the series that did it was Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex. I thought that show was amazing. Even by today's animation standards, it's gorgeous to look at. Well, that and other shows like Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Gundam Seed kinda got me to look into anime a lot more.

My friend showed me Elfen Lied since then I watch anime..
But eh.. I think I am the only one who is started like this with that kind of anime. I mean. If I recommended this to my mother she will never take a look at anime again.

Pretty much the same, I grew up watching Gungdam, DBZ, Beyblade, without knowing what "anime" was.
But the first anime that got me into this search of more and more would be Saber Marionette J (think thats the name) It showed in this channel fully dedicated to anime called Locomotion and it was the start of my addiction.

Exactly, I remember that when I was a lad, I would watch Sailor moon or cardcaptor everyday before going to school. Then when I returned home, I would watch DBZ, InuYasha or Zatch Bell. So I guess those series got me into animes.

To Love-Ru. After watching that, I tried to look for more Ecchi-genre anime until I got tired of looking for more Ecchi-genre anime.

Watched Pokemon/DBZ/Shaman King/Digimon like everybody else w/o acknowledging it as "anime". I also ended up watching Tokyo Mew Mew as well since it aired around the same time as pokemon :p

First "official" anime I watched was Death Note. My friend had started his anime-watching career with Death Note and showed me episode 1 while I was over at his house, ended up marathoning it in 5 days. Got hooked onto One Piece and To Love-Ru afterwards. Spent a few years just slowly catching up to One Piece, to the two year time-skip.

Then one day, I discovered MAL and kissed my life goodbye. Discover hundreds of new anime at the click of a mouse? Yes please.

Not knowing what anime actually was, I guess it would be Dragonball Z.
I got Death Note recommended somewhere in 2010, and from that point, kept on watching a lot of anime :)

Inuyasha made me start watching anime regularly. Today I see it as an average anime, but at the time I watched it, that was the best.
