Finally out of Gluttony's "belly" :D
Ed was really badass at the end struggling to get the body of Al...

Nxt episode, we will now see the "Father" of the homunculus.

BTW, there are only 63 epi in total?
Only 63? You act as if that isn't a lot lol.

Great episode. So basically all Al needs to do is to force Gluttony to eat him and then transmute himself and at the gate retrieve his body and leave the armor and that's all! It sounds too easy unless there's a catch.

loved the end. touching and friggin epic. fight was too cool.

i wonder though, how al was speaking. wasn't it only his body that was taken and his spirit stayed? if his body has no spirit then how...? *.*

Actually, as I understand it, that's got nothing to do with Gluttony...the real Gate of Truth can be accessed from anywhere. But Father failed to create the real Gate, so Gluttony's gate doesn't connect to anything; everything that goes through it just ends up "nowhere"...the anime describes it as an isolated space between dimensions (the manga might have too, don't remember). Since the fake gate just closes back up after dumping them into the no-zone, there's no way out. But of course Ed is a genius, blah blah blah, he realizes that he can open the real Gate and use it to get out (the Gate is opened whenever human transmutation occurs, and the one who performed the alchemy has to pay the equivalent exchange toll).

Of course, the only reason he's able to do this is because he used Envy's stone, and didn't have to pay with any more limbs :-p

So what the brothers actually need to do is a) get a big philosopher's stone, b) open the door again, using some of the stone as a toll, and c) probably have to exchange more of the stone for Al's body. Not to mention Ed's leg and arm, if he still wants them back (I'd keep the automail personally).

What I'm really curious about is how specifically Al is going to get transmuted back into his body; I figure what would happen is Ed would transmute Al's soul off of the armor, which should invoke the Gate. Would he also need to transmute his own body to accompany Al to the gate? Or is that something you can only do when you're trying to use the Gate to cross over to someplace else? When the boys tried to revive their mom and the eye thing appeared, Al's body was taken immediately as payment, his soul got sucked into the alchemic reaction, and attached to the transmuted creature.

We also see Ed being taken to the Gate and experiencing the Truth -- but even while Ed was at the Gate, his body wasn't there with him, because he eventually gets thrown out of the gate and his body is still in the same exact place it was before (although it was missing a leg, lol). So I don't think it's necessary to transmute your body to get to the Gate, just that some sort of human transmutation has to open it. But I'm still really curious to see how it works; does Al get back into his body at the Gate? How would Ed be able to transmute Al's soul back into his body if he doesn't have his own body there with him to perform alchemy with? Is a body necessary to perform alchemy?

Haha, lastly, to echo ChibiHime, how the hell does Al's body talk without a soul? It seemed weird in the manga, but it downright annoyed me in the anime, since soul-less Alphonse was speaking showing facial expressions and other emotive gestures. Even Barry's body had some kind of animal's soul put in it before it could do stuff. [yawn] /rant

This was one of the best episodes of this show so far for me! The ending was THE best! I almost started tearing up when Ed saw Al *tear* The way he kicked in the door was oh so Ed awesome! I can't wait for the future episodes I haven't read the manga so this is like a brand new anime for me. :)

star_catcher, if you really want an answer, you can take a look at this thread, there's an answer to your question. I wondered about that too at first, but it totally make sense now :)

my question, where is Ed's limbs? shouldnt it be like the same case as Al(sitting there at the Gate of Truth waiting, chillin' with Al ofc)?
or is it different from Al's case, as Ed's Leg was taken as a "troll" and also this arm too later to grab Al's soul back while Al's body was taken as an after-effect? So technically, Ed can't never get his limbs back right? unless he wants to rip it back from the "Truth guy"

Another great episode. FMA constantly delivers from the time we got in to new material. And last scene breaking threw the gate with that metal arm, the finger and that badass look was as epic as it can get.

I dunno... not the greatest of episodes. But yeah, that may be because I was kinda busy eating my chilly chicken. Then suddenly the hungry Alphonse jumped to the screen and I looked twice at my meal. Edwards expression at the end was amazing.

Most of this episode went over my head. Why were there two gates? Does everyone have their own gate of truth? If not then which was the real gate of truth? The one in which Ed was sucked or the one Al was standing in front of? What's up with that? O_O

Some questions don't get answers until the end of the show :D
But I can guess: yes, everyone has their own gate of truth, the gate behind Al is his own gate, the one behind Ed is his own's gate, Ed can see Al's gate because their minds are connected through the first human transmutation experience...
Hopes it's not confusing...xD

There they are:

Why they weren't with Al's body in front of the gate, well that I don't know. Maybe they are stuck inside the gate?

Bradley flashback was awesome.

scar & mei vs. chimera was ok ^ ^

Ed busting the gate of Truth was just undescribable!!

<3 badass Ed.

I rly didn't expect Ed 2 c Alphonse body in the gate of Truth @_@

can't wait for next ep >_<"

FMA.B rly deserves 100/10!! (tho, I think next ep won't be that great >_>)

That's cause Ling is sexradiating, so Ed is being constantly bombed with the sexparticles D: Poor Ed.

Thanks. That kind of makes sense. I mean, I don't really agree with the anime's interpretation of the division -- that mind would stay with the body, etc. If armor-Al doesn't have a mind, then he shouldn't be able to think and retain memories. He can't still be connected to his mind, because it would take a lot of energy to permanently sustain a connection through the Gate.

[shrug] That can be boiled down to a preference/opinion, though, in the face of everything else. At least the anime is trying to be consistent.

Orz, Al's soul shares Al's mind with Al'z body, however Al's body does not have access to Al's soul.

To be exact:

Armour Al - Al's soul with access to Al's mind but without access to Al's body..
Gate Al - Al's body with access to Al's mind but without access to al's soul

i think i luved this ep better than the last ep, which i didnt expect AT ALL =D animation never ceased to amaze me <3
when i read the part with Al's body in the gate i thought it wuz scary, but when i saw it in the anime i think i nearly cried, especially when he started talking O.o idk whats with that but i luved it so much >w< and the Bradley flashback wuz awesome! i hadnt rly been paying as much attention to the military stuff happening in that part until the flashback
i expected the guy with the gold tooth to have a different voice tho ._. i wuz expecting the voice of a crazy old guy or sumthing
Romi Paku iz the best! i luv her voice acting <3

who's the ass who voted this as 1/5!? they obviously have no taste in good anime

This episode and episode 25 combined animated one of my favorite parts of the manga, and I think they pulled it off excellently. Just ... fabulous!

Seeing the story I loved so much in the manga all animated and pretty just makes me so happy. :D
