That's a big laser.

So how exactly do they turn around for deceleration when in ring formation?...

Most likely: Release clasp formation, yaw and roll 180 degrees, take clasp formation.

That wave motion gun sequence was riveting. The finale will have a nice climax too from the looks of things.

So I was thinking, they really should invest more on inertia dampening tech. Like, it would make their lives more convenient. Less StarTrek shake incidents and less cables.

It's official. Kiunato in this season (hopefully there's a second) is just a complete waste of space. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. Oh my, we're about to crash into a dwarf planet-sized Gauna, I should have been the hero. Since I'm not, then the world can all go to hell with me. I still can't tell if the author genuinely wanted us to hate him, or whether it's the anime director's doing. Regardless, he's a waste of space (and for the people saying he can redeem himself. He's stuck on Sidonia with an hour before the missile impact on the Gauna, even if he went out and prepped his Guarde, he wouldn't even make it to the battle in time).

Okay, here's another question. The biggest threat in the history of Sidonia is baring down at you, you have 6 hours left to live. Why did you not send out all 250 pilots to stop the Gauna? Why just send 20% of your fleet? And if you had that awesome Super Hyggs Particle cannon from the start, why didn't you just try to blow a hole in them FIRST?

Oh, and after taking out the entire 2nd Platoon single-handedly, who wants to bet with me that Tanikaze still thinks that Benisuzume is still Hoshijirou and is worth saving?

So many things that don't make sense, but still I rate this anime higher than most of this season, so I'm not complaining. Will definitely start on the manga once this is over. Can't wait till next week either. Hoping for a season 2.

Oh wait, i've mixed up Akuma no Riddle and Black Bullet. Don't ask why... Black Bullet is pretty ok, at least if you compare it to the rest of the season.

Sidonia manga is at its best as a philosophical piece on what it means to be human. Though it doesn't try to push a particular message, just various scenarios for the reader to ponder themselves. Hard science fiction it is not, and the backdrop is just a convenient setting to have various kind bio experiments or 'events'.

Much of the economic/social/decision making/physics doesn't make logical sense. Whilst individual characters do eventually become representations these beings that are not exactly human, there's very little commentary on them from the other characters (which goes back to the earlier point that there's no clear message being pushed).

Eg. When Sidonia was 'saved' by Tanikaze earlier, it took Sidonia more than a week to decide to retrieve the 2 when it is obvious the cheapest way is to do it as early as possible (drifting away at constant velocity attained by a single frame, all you have to do is to accelerate to a velocity faster than the drifters + with enough reserve to accelerate back at a speed faster than Sidonia, and its just a matter of time to catch up. In other words it's a race against time, Instead, the author let happen for days before using some massive formation to do the job - if that had worked, it would've costed 1/100 to do it early)

DAT PLANET-SIZED GAUNA.

DAT BENISUZUME.

DAT SOUND EFFECT.

Heck even Mr Butthurt was bearable this episode. How the hell is this only twelve episodes ? If no season 2 is confirmed in a very near future I'm going straight to the manga. I don't even care.

I hope they announce 2nd season at the end of episode 12

I can't believe that a crap like captain earth and M3: Sono Kuroki Hagane get 2 cours but this get only 1 cour.

MATE. This episode was quite good.

The attack on the Gauna reminded me of the first Death Star run from Star Wars in a way, thoroughly intense. The 3D animation has been something to get used to, especially since it seemed a little awkward at first especially during the less intense, casual scenes but the series as a whole has become something to behold. Whether a second season is announced or not, I'll miss watching it after it ends next week. Though a second season announcement would certainly make me feel a lot better..

I got to finish GitS as well as finish those two other shows. If they're any similar to Sidonia, I will love them!

Captain Earth -> Otaku Pandering
m3 -> High quality producers/staff/cast and it's an original story
But yeah, I wish Sidonia got the equivalent :(

imo:
1. why only 48? the new thruster pack and the riffle only available that much. sending more gardes will wasting the gardes (lack of weapon, wasting kabizashi), and probably it will reach the gauna too late (because of slower old thruster)
2. i believe using that super canon will render sidonia powerless, and the info about the empty space only available after the gardes reach the gauna, even if they still can launch the missile after shooting that cannon i'm not sure that gauna can't evade both or at least the missile (that propulsion system+how they can evade impacter in past eps)

The narrative is always great, seems to be in battle due to the atmosphere created.
Plot unchanged, no news, too bad some little novelty I would have liked.
Graphically good, animations on the same level.
Curiosity to much for the last episode, though a second season have to be made!

So far it does not look like it's going to be an original ending. Everything has followed manga so far with some minor changes like replacing an asteroid with a tiny planet in this episode.

Holy shit, the whole second team... They never stood a chance against Benisuzume OPness...

Now, the only hope lies on the first team... And that they don't encounter Benisuzume.

They seemed to put importance on Hoshijiro-gauna version. Maybe she'll save Tanikaze from Benisuzume by some kind of telepathy with her sister..?

Fucking Kunato... Hopes he get a huge sanction for deserting. Those immortal are a bunch of jerk too.

Anyway, that thing is fucking huge. But next episode is ''Return to the ship'', so Tanikaze and Izuna will probably make it out.

So the immortal council have a ship thats capable of outrunning the dwarf planet? Where would they even go? Space is so damn vast. Or what they just plan on escaping the planet then waiting a couple hundred years for another ship to pass by them.

Oh yeah I'm starting to dislike Izana. I hope she dies next ep.

Is it me or is the anime taking a different turn from the manga? If not, can anyone please point at what part of the manga the series is at the moment? Have read till Ch.21 and the story seems different.

Need someone to enlighten me.

The start of this battle is in chapter 22 (near the end). The two differences is that the mini-planet was a asteroid in the manga and they cut out

Main difference IMO, Sidonia's been a consistently good read across all chapters. If you're a more critical reader, you may agree that Berserk's story faceplanted after the Tower of Conviction arc. Any anime adaptation of Berserk past that point would have resembled some aimless shounen hacknslash with a meandering storyline.

Great episode. I loved the fight scenes , tooo bad about platoon 2. I was actually waiting for Gauna-Benisuzume to show up. I quite liked Midorikawa here, she was quick making decisions. And damn immortal council...I would blow them creeps first tbh....unless they have a crucial role. No manga reader here. I am happy for season 2 announcement and right now I am tempted to watch the final episode raw,but my japanese is not good enough, yet..

Wow. This episode deserves to be watched on a big screen. Why did I watch this on my crummy 15" monitor? Really intense action scenes.

and dear lord, the sound in this anime is something else. Major props for that.

This episode was magnificient. There's an abstract beauty to laser beams piercing the void and casting reflections on the solid matters around. Overall the light effects were great this episode, with a striking blue/red contrast due to the giant Gauna, sprinkled with the ever present and shifting black of space. And some nicely paced action, good job staff. Looking forward to season two.

I am very glad that decided to watch this. Kunato's character is almost... empathetic? Too bad I don't have any idea what his dream is. For the limited amount of time it had, this was virtually a masterpiece. This warrants AT LEAST an 8.

Quite the battle we have on our hands. Poor squad 2, but we've still got half of squad 1. How will it all end and who will die? Really happy I started this earlier, it''s been pretty damn good so far.

Damn!!!

I felt like i was watching Zeta Gundam for a second :O

Nagate can really be annoying at times. Enough being too jealous of Nagate and understand what kind of situation he's in.

At least Kobayashi is willing to give Tanikaze a chance. Something he didn't give to his father.

Kinda felt sad with Kunato, but with all the BS he tried to pull serves him right.

Wow the Gauna is one big bastard. They literally went all out on this one.

Benisuzume DAAAAAAMN. Squad Unit 2 got wipe out clean. They would have been successful as hell if they didn't get run with Benisuzume.

I watch the Sentai BD's and it says these are the new angles. I didn't watch the normal TV versions, but is there anything changed here?? Seems there's a lot of explosions here and so.

Final Episode!!! Can't wait for it!!
