Seriously that Kunato is still fixated on piloting that Tsugumori... Why does it matter even so much, he's stupid... wishing the world would end just cause he didn't get that thing... he should be the one to die --"

Freaking wow. Was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Anime original ending where everyone gets wiped out?

They aren't going for original ending as this battle is taken from manga with some edits such as replacing an asteroid with dwarf planet covered in placenta where in manga the gauna just turned a crater on the asteroid into an engine, same as in anime.

In the manga the entire first platoon also got wiped out by Benisuzume in that very same spot and manner. If you have read the manga, the episodes 11 and 12 is basically chapters 23-26.

I like how the don't go with the cliches to make the ship symmetrical. Just one launcher for that huge missile and only one hyggs cannon. Pretty rare to see something like that.

I can't believe I just started watching this series when it only has one episode left... -.-;

Yup, I marathoned it today. It's a pretty good series; I love sci-fis like these. Originally I was a little put off by the mecha tag though, to me mechas are normally horrendously dull and tedious. Thankfully the mecha cliché didn't seem to overrun the series like it normally does for others.

Kobayashi is awesome - I love her mask! And Izana is pretty cool too. Asexual, huh? So it doesn't matter what gender you are, you can like them either way! XD

Well, I just watched all 11 episodes. Good god I'm tired.

Does anyone know how are the ratings/sales/predictions looking for this show? Any chances of season 2?

According to this, the first volume sold almost 6k BDs.

It was at 7k a week ago and even higher now. That link is old. This show is selling well in Japan. Generally 3k is where you break even and they have more than doubled that. Plus CG is much easier to animate long term since they've already got the models and shit. All signs point to season 2.

Sci-Fi action doesn't get much better than this. Awesome episode. The sound effects are always are stellar. I swear the sound of that Hyggs Cannon got me hard.

If a season 2 is not announced (specially considering all the crap that gets a second season) there is no justice in this world.

I knew from the previous episode it would have a lot kill, but not that many. that "imortal counsel" just complains and does nothing.

I hope Izana not end up like hoshijiro. Anxious for the next episode.

Great episode. Like some others users have mentioned, it had me on the edge of my seat. Also something that other users have mentioned is the sound. Fucking phenomenal sound effects.

After next week it'll be time for me to jump on the manga.

They are really pulling out all the stops there. Adjusting course, firing a planet buster, launching two Gardes platoons with new experimental weapons and then the hygss cannon for good measure.

Repect for Yuhata and Kobayashi there. Yuhata has to make up a new plan that promises the best result on the spot, and Kobayashi has to think them through even quicker if she wants to make a informed decision when Yuhata requests something. Unless she already simulated literally almost any outcome, which, given her experience, wouldn't be all that surprising. Would rise the question why she keeps an XO.

And Kunat..well, probably better that he didn't respond to the sortie order. He would have messed up another mission. Wonder what the punishment for refusal to obey orders is on the Sidonia. Given the shortage on pilots, especially skilled ones, they can hardly put him into prison or demote him.

Super intense episode! Man, Platoon 2 got completely annihilated in like 1 minute. Seeing all the X s on the screen as each one died was ridiculous. That Super Hyggs Cannon was awesome though! Sad it's going to end next week....

Poor Shidonians...

8/10 for this ep.
Isayama Hajime should be awarded The Manga with The Highest Inconsistencies of Characters' Appearances.
He keeps performing multiple plastic surgeries on those Shingeki No Kyojin characters in a SINGLE chapter.
Yes, I've read up to the latest chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga.
Forced myself to read through the kidsketching chapters after the anime's ended. At least from now on, I only have to go through the hell once a month.
Patiently awaiting SNK TV/movie/OVA anime-sequel.
The 2015 SNK live-action movie would probably suck.

the fact that this anime get lower score than black bullet (with 3 same genre: sci-fi, action, seinen) make me surprised (actually no, it's MAL anyway)

nagate really BA with that new weapon
how much ammo they got for each person?
and they can detach the long barrel..wow
with they throw out all their new weapon and 1 platoon + 10 frame lost, even if they can win that's still pretty bad for sidonia's force

ugh, need better (larger) screen and better audio system..6/5

So far the anime has been going at a good pace, especially since they get to stop at one of the best parts of the manga

Whaaaaaat, this felt like 10min!

It was dumb not to take several Kabizashi units.

Darn Kunato, get your shit together. You may be an asshole, but you're a great pilot and your help would have mattered!

Black Bullet is a joke. While Sidonia has its fair share of flaws, it just really goes to show the level of taste most anime fans have (hint: not much).

This ep was good, but it sure took way many episodes to get to something of this sort. I hope there's a season 2, but I might just go to the manga instead of waiting.

Holy f-cking shit. It was worth it to step aside my homework and watch this first.
I am at loss for words. This episode sent chills to my spine.

The new Gardes launching sequence was damn awesome, along with the superb sound quality.
That Gauna is pretty huge.. Izana: It's... huge.. (no sexual innuendos intended)

Platoon 2 got pretty wiped up fast & clean.

DAMN, IF I SEE A "SEASON 2 THIS FALL!", at the next & final episode, I'm gonna pee in my pants.

Next episode: "Returning to the Ship"

NO SERIOUSLY, GET A DAMN SEASON 2.
10/5 for this episode.

Not my favorite episode, but definitely one of the best, hell are there really any bad episodes?

*I like how they let a platoon and a half die before they decided to shoot a Hyggs cannon at it.*

*Still rooting for a happy ending with Nagate and Izana*

*I see that nigga Kunato in his feels mode -_- *

*Izana would you hurry up and develop a vagina and breasts for God's sake so Nagate will finally decide to fuck you?*

There are 20 volumes iirc. The anime will cover 4 or 5 volumes I think.

Edit: I double checked and there are 13 volumes only. Either way I believe there IS enough material for a second season, we just have to wait for an announcement :)

Man that was amazing, this anime has me on the edge of my seat every week, the battles are so intense and the sound quality is superb. This episode made me change the score for this anime from an 8 to 9, that's the highest I've rated any show this season

Didn't look at the genres of black bullet, but that anime was a pain in the ass. I wouldn't say it has anything to do with seinen, maybe except for the violence. Which is probably why it has higher ratings, because it's not a seinen.

"with they throw out all their new weapon and 1 platoon + 10 frame lost"

27 frame total.

This is probably the best anime tis season. My only problem with it is the episode count... Seriously, only one more episode? :/

That's a big laser.

So how exactly do they turn around for deceleration when in ring formation?...

Most likely: Release clasp formation, yaw and roll 180 degrees, take clasp formation.

That wave motion gun sequence was riveting. The finale will have a nice climax too from the looks of things.

So I was thinking, they really should invest more on inertia dampening tech. Like, it would make their lives more convenient. Less StarTrek shake incidents and less cables.

It's official. Kiunato in this season (hopefully there's a second) is just a complete waste of space. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. Oh my, we're about to crash into a dwarf planet-sized Gauna, I should have been the hero. Since I'm not, then the world can all go to hell with me. I still can't tell if the author genuinely wanted us to hate him, or whether it's the anime director's doing. Regardless, he's a waste of space (and for the people saying he can redeem himself. He's stuck on Sidonia with an hour before the missile impact on the Gauna, even if he went out and prepped his Guarde, he wouldn't even make it to the battle in time).

Okay, here's another question. The biggest threat in the history of Sidonia is baring down at you, you have 6 hours left to live. Why did you not send out all 250 pilots to stop the Gauna? Why just send 20% of your fleet? And if you had that awesome Super Hyggs Particle cannon from the start, why didn't you just try to blow a hole in them FIRST?

Oh, and after taking out the entire 2nd Platoon single-handedly, who wants to bet with me that Tanikaze still thinks that Benisuzume is still Hoshijirou and is worth saving?

So many things that don't make sense, but still I rate this anime higher than most of this season, so I'm not complaining. Will definitely start on the manga once this is over. Can't wait till next week either. Hoping for a season 2.

Sidonia manga is at its best as a philosophical piece on what it means to be human. Though it doesn't try to push a particular message, just various scenarios for the reader to ponder themselves. Hard science fiction it is not, and the backdrop is just a convenient setting to have various kind bio experiments or 'events'.

Much of the economic/social/decision making/physics doesn't make logical sense. Whilst individual characters do eventually become representations these beings that are not exactly human, there's very little commentary on them from the other characters (which goes back to the earlier point that there's no clear message being pushed).

Eg. When Sidonia was 'saved' by Tanikaze earlier, it took Sidonia more than a week to decide to retrieve the 2 when it is obvious the cheapest way is to do it as early as possible (drifting away at constant velocity attained by a single frame, all you have to do is to accelerate to a velocity faster than the drifters + with enough reserve to accelerate back at a speed faster than Sidonia, and its just a matter of time to catch up. In other words it's a race against time, Instead, the author let happen for days before using some massive formation to do the job - if that had worked, it would've costed 1/100 to do it early)

DAT PLANET-SIZED GAUNA.

DAT BENISUZUME.

DAT SOUND EFFECT.

Heck even Mr Butthurt was bearable this episode. How the hell is this only twelve episodes ? If no season 2 is confirmed in a very near future I'm going straight to the manga. I don't even care.

Don't know how about you but Sidonia is already holds the spot among my favourite sci-fi anime alongside with Ergo Proxy, Redline and Ghost in the Shell.
