even when they dont look nice you can always try who knows you will make more friends where you can talk with in your free time about manga and stuff :)

But the biggest problems for me are that I'm too shy, and good at guessing personalities. And most of the people here that watch anime, only watch main-stream stuff (not that that's bad though)

I've never talked to anyone when browsing manga, although usually it's one or two other people.

Never talked to people at the anime store, either.

Or at the public library.

Or those scary chicks with black mascara and Naruto shirts and headbands I saw pass me by in the street.

I've met plenty of cool people at my anime club, it's safer than annoying random strangers. :P

Last time I went, some forty-year-old lady was talking to her niece or something and said, "Mira mija, yo leia estos"(which means "Look, I used to read these" in English) while pointing to some shoujo manga. I lol'ed.

I start conversations, talking to other fans is interesting. My old job allowed me to read when it was dead in my area, so i found myself buying much more manga then. Buying a lot of manga increases the chances or running into another fan, so talking to other fans happened quite often. Yup.

I often chat it up with the owner of the Anime store here in Denver. and ive talked to people that come in sometimes. There are a lot of hardcore otaku that come into this store. so I think they feel safe because not too many casual fans come in.

I met an woman and her daughter the other day who had never been there and I told them the best way to leave the city safely after rush hour died down. they lived farther out and didn't come into the city very often.

Still I thought it was nice they drove all that way to go to the Anime store.

Mm, no but someone did talk to me when I was reading manga though.

Me: *sitting down on the ground and reading*
Employee: Excuse me, either buy it or leave.
Me: *puts book back in shelf and leaves*

I went to the manga aisle in a Barnes & Nobles once. They didn't have any Berserk. I was disappointed.

There was one time where my dad took me to Barnes and Noble and he was helping me browse through to find something I liked (he's not into this stuff but he still tried to do his best...) I remember I said I was looking for action and suddenly this one chick in that aisle started talking to me and recommending stuff. Suddenly she began introducing me and telling me about a whole bunch of series and how she wouldn't read a manga that had art standards lower than her own (FMA). My dad left us two to talk. Who knows how long I was there.

My town has one, it's pretty rad. "Owner-san," as we call the guy who owns the place, is really chill and he'll let you read some manga as long as you don't open ones that are wrapped up, or damage the books. And he'll chat with you. They have DVDs, a rental library, manga, accesories, shirts, hats, figures, bags... My anime club membership gives me a discount *_* good stuff.

I've only once had someone start talking to me in front of a shelf of anime. She asked me what my favourite series was, to which I didn't have much of an answer (there are so many amazing titles out there that I didn't know where to start!). Now that I think about it, though, she was probably sounding me out to see if I'd answer either Naruto or Bleach oO;; In the end, we started talking a bit about local conventions before her father called out to her to go.

Other than that, it's never really happened and I don't go out of my way to talk to random people xD

I don't usually talk to the people in the manga aisle because they usually aren't there for the manga: the manga books share a bookshelf with a bunch of psychology books (I think there is a joke in that somewhere... about the minds of the manga fans. I dunno >_>)

Anyway, there was this one time where a guy was watching me pick up some Legend of Zelda manga, and I guess he felt it appropriate to nudge and pass me a book titled, "The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy." Kinda weird for him to do that, but it actually was quite an interesting read.

I feel glad that I've never experienced the random fanboys/girls in the manga aisle yet. Eh. My luck will run out eventually.

I have a story about this. I refer to the culprit as "Manic Mary". I'd rather not spew a huge wall of text to those who don't want it, though, so if you're the 000.1% who is interested, let me know. :|

In any case, I never make conversation with people in the manga aisle. I never start any conversations with strangers.

Usually I only drop by to glare at the titles, so I don't stay long enough for people to talk to me. Only time someone talked to me in a book store was when I was looking up Discworld books. It was some guy in his 40's, and we had nice short convo that didn't feel any more awkward than other conversations you might strike up with a stranger.

I dress up constantly, and because of cosplayers who "cosplay lolitas" at conventions, anime fans always seem to think I've got anime clothes on (T___T)

so I actually get talked to a lot by anime fans, not really in the manga aisle cause I don't hang out there

I hate it because I'm pretty much a closet fan, don't talk about it much except with a few friends and on forums, and dislike anime fans in general. I mean, I'm nice back but I try to get away ASAP.

The aisle is deserted except for a few guys in their 30s-40s looking at comics, not manga. Then sometimes there's a couple of teenagers looking around. So, no I don't talk to anyone, nor does anyone talk to me (everyone's busy reading).

I am an anti-social person in general so anime/manga is a personal hobby not really meant for conversation in RL.

The other day I held a 3 sentence conversation for the first time.

Two stupid kids were sitting in front of the manga shelves, reading their Naruto, so I decided to be evil and stepped between them saying "excuse me". May I add that I usually wear mini-skirts and heels. To make it even harder for them I decided to bend like anime girls do (hands on knees, lifting skirt, that stuff) and started browsing the shelf slower than what I usually do.

They suddenly ask
"Do you need help""
And I answer
"I was just looking at the news. But there are not any news."
And they say
"Indeed, this shop is very incomplete".

And then I realize that they are idiots, because it is the more complete, only it has more books in French than in English.
