Absolutely true. Its always a joy to read the long winded debate between the fanboys and the non-conformists.

The dialogue of the show can be a bit long-winded at times, but there are so many golden quotes, and it's not just hackneyed stuff either, they dress truisms or philosophical traditions in wit and humour which makes it entertaining as well as informative.

So I think for impressionable teenagers, LotGH may very well be a factor in making them smarter.

I wouldn't discount the possibility of that.

If only I had watched this series when I was a brat. But then again, as a brat I would probably not be able to appreciate it properly.

I think at age 15, I would have lapped it up and it would have made me more cognizant of politics, governance, etc. I really was a dumb mindless teen who didnt understand the Kafka-esque lunacy of governments, war, etc. LotGH would have highlighted it nicely.

I wouldn't say it made me wiser, but it did reassure my worldview of politics, history etc although I disagreed with how democratic ideals were glorified since what we've witnessed in recent times is more like plutocracy (poorly) disguised as democracy, and I'm not really sure if there is a country that we can call democratic in the true sense, but whatever. Although to its defense I must say that I liked how it portrayed the dilemma of choosing between a corrupt democracy on one side and a 'good' autocracy on the other hand.
I would have liked it more if it had a more cynical view of things, but that wouldn't have made it look good on tv :P

the lotgh universe is a very poor simulation of political theory to anyone with a brain. it's just 'blah blah blah democracy is great blah blah blah'. nothing about the actual government just the microscopic bullshit you'd hear in the news (whackjob politicians, corrupt officials etc.). all highly stylised for the wapanese audience whose knowledge of politics extended only so far as their child-sized penises.

also, i don't recall one moment where any sort of legislative process occurs, and i don't think i'd be able to guess that the alliance was a democracy if they hadn't kept reminding me. actually, this whole thing reminds me of SimCity or some other shitty simulation game on the PC; whatever they both have the same level of depth.

This is indeed true.

Without LOGH, I wouldn't have known that spaceships can only travel through tiny passageways instead of picking a less well-defended route and that spaceships have to travel through mines instead of around them.

Troll logic. No point questioning it. It should be readily apparent to anyone with half a brain that the Thor's hammer is a homage to the Concrete Donkey and that Reinhard's hair mirrors the Holy Hand Grenade, no similarity at all with Sim City.
