THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Eh it was an okay episode. The new girl Nanami wasn't as strong as I had thought but I do admit that she has quite an useful ability. I just find the weakness or way to avoid it to be kinda silly if you wear sunglasses although it does make sense.

On another note, the real threat is coming soon assuming this adaptation will be faithful.

Okay episode, Nanami seems really conflicted on what to do. I wonder how it will play out next episode.

Nanami's offense is mainly looking, erasing, and changing one's memories, doesn't really pose a threat if one avoids eye contact. However, it can be useful if one doesn't know about her magic and if one makes eye contact.

Looks like Nanami will join the team, but I have a bad feeling at the guy at the end who said "this is no joke". I wonder what he meant by that.

Kotori and Neko wearing sunglasses was cute ^^

Nanami was flipping her skirt to get the attention. Kind of surprised to see that wearing sunglasses is a weakness.
Felt bad for the escort of Nanami, he isn't too bad of a person to naturally raising the price.
When Nanami attack Ryouta, I thought she would have a bad start as a likeable character. That crying like a baby scene. The photographic memory completely countered Nanami's power! Something about being a write-once and having a short live!
A bit sad to see Nanami just wanting to be a normal person. Drooling over ice cream and sweets!
She joined the group looking for friends, I just realized the lack of offensive power of the escaped witches. Once Neko is gone, there isn't much of a offensive anymore which could had been really dangerous.
The guy finding the project details, he might contact HQ and the beacon might not be extended anymore...

Nanami sure did make a mess out of Kurofuku.
Ryouta's skill of deduction and excellent memory never cease to amaze me.
You can't have an episode without Kazumi doing something perverted, I guess this time Kotori had to pay the fee.
Kuroha took a big risk by taking off her sunglasses, but it looks like Nanami came to her senses.
I'm worried about her Harnest beacon though.

Good ep. Murakami dodge a bullet of avoiding Nanami ability thanks to his write-once. Nice they were able to resolve this, but I feel these happy days won't last long. That guy who was watching Nanami found something so it's possible things will change soon.

5/5 for Nanami's -over 9000- cuteness.
but i need to complain again about the fast pace!
they squeezed a lot of things & rushed through it quickly!
maybe it's a good move considering what will come next..
still enjoyable.. and This made me LOL

Wow, so much unneeded fanservice this episode. While they went to new hights with the art (Kuroha was smoking hot in the end) it just feels like a cheap version of Elfen Lied.
Score down to 7/10.
Art can only get you so far in my book :D

Why didn't the spectators notice the new girl's harnest? It was really obvious
my memory's a bit fuzzy but does every witch have a beacon? why hasn't anyone found the witches with murakami then ?

Haven't read the manga but I feel Nanami is likely going to die. What with her not being in the OP, plus the guy reading his journal.

Thanks a lot ! Does that mean Kuroha and the other witches got rid of their beacon somehow? Weren't they part of the institution too?

So far i'm enjoying it but still wondering how they will insert Valkyria into all of this... A 2nd season would be awesome but.. Don't think they will do another one. Just like Elfen Lied all over again :(

Hmm. Not bad, but they deviated pretty far from the manga, this time. I thought it better executed in the manga too. Guess they didn't want to spend two episodes on finding her and bringing her in the harem (short as it may be).

He was (re)reading his own diary of what he was doing. She apparently switched 'keeping an eye on her' to 'keeping an eye on the castle'; but at the end he already got questions about that himself. And then reading his own diary where she is mentioned in and how progress goes with them finding the other witches, in his own writing... I think he'll put two and two together.

I disagree, btw: it's an extremely dangerous ability, for the lab. I'll explain it.

They fled from the lab before the beacon was installed. Pretty sure this was explained in previous episodes.

Ok, so why did those top secret science guys used a generally weak witch to flush out those escapees with when they could have use another AA++ to hunt them down.

I disagree: it's an extremely dangerous ability, for everyone in general, and for the laboratory/covert organisation in particular. She can easily find out who and where they are, for starters. She can easily get ALL the secrets they are hiding. She can raise an army in an instant to go after them, or turn thousands of people into 'knowing/believing' the story of the witches and coming out publicly with it to blow the cover of the lab; they couldn't possibly handle such a leak.

For that shady organisation, thus, it's very, very dangerous and a great risk, which is why they thought the pills and the beacon wasn't enough, and they send him along with his sunglasses and having a time-limit on her beacon, so that it automatically goes off not only when it receives a signal, but also if it doesn't get a signal in a while. For the lab, thus, it's a two-edged sword: if they get her in check and can control her, it's a good way to find the witches; they don't know where they are, after all. Remember, with the other AA 'beam'-witch, it was only because some other witch snatched on *her* comrades, that they found those (and our harem came to the rescue, showing themselves). If not for that, it's like searching a needle in a haystack.

Still, they miscalculated and didn't think far enough ahead, and thus screwed up. They are in fact lucky that, in first instance, she just wanted a 'free day off' - if she really had gone full-out against the lab, she could have dealt some serious damage, and, maybe, even get her hands on a stock of pills. But I guess chances were that her beacon would get activated in the process, true, so maybe she didn't want to risk it, and one day of freedom was enough.

Now that she wants to join the harem, however, it's the worst of both worlds, especially now that the guy has discovered his own writings. (Well, she doesn't know that last part yet.) She has to immediately remove her beacon and go full out against the organisation - in a way that she can get her hands on some pills, or she is screwed anyway.

And line of the year goes to:

Nanami: Hey, how much for my belly button?
Guy: I saw it before so 0 yen

I died.

On a more serious note, it'll be really cruel to kill off Nanami now. And in such a gruesome manner too (melting).

Also, I wonder if her power causes her harnest to hang up.

Anyway, I enjoyed this ep.

I'm wondering if Nanami's beacon has a sensor that activates if she tries to take it off, and once she does it immediately destroys her body. I'm just speculating, but if she wants to be free she has to take it off real quick, but I'm still not sure if the beacon has some sort of self destruct sensor that can only be turned off at the lab.

I felt bad that Nanami is doing this from the lab's orders; sitting alone, and being treated as a tool for it. Although she has her cute side when it comes to sweets and getting hungry :D.

But I have a feeling that might get killed off in later episodes, but that's my prediction. Well, she has friends at the end there :D.

I just laugh when Murakami acted like a baby, even though he faked it, Nanami for her sweet demands and showing lewd parts to that guy.

Nanami might just be my favorite character in this series, which is sad since I'm almost positive she's going to die... Her strategy to stop her handler was genius! Also, she seems to be a really good person, albeit a conflicted one.

This was a great episode! Murakami is actually a pretty cool protagonist in his own way, his memory thing comes in handy. Maybe Nanami can help Kuroha get her memories back?

Also the scene with Kotori and Kazumi in the bath was...interesting

Loving this show!

I am just hoping the anime will be really faithful to the manga. At this pace I don't see it will reach up to the point where Hatsuna and Valkyrie will be introduced.

I hope they don't speed up and just announce we are getting a second season... especially seeing the scanlation team of the manga sped up the chapters! I seriously want to see it all animated.

Even with the remaining episode count i still cant see how they are going to adapt the remaining chapters even if they skip right to the Valkyrie arc without either making it an original ending, Fast pacing which would be terrible or on cliff hanger.

On a serious not i really hope they just introduce the begging of the Valkyrie arc and leave it on a cliff hanger for a second season if not than the other options would be completely disastrous

That ending suggests a lot of trouble the question however is what will happen next time.
And that poor girl not knowing anything about society and going so for just to get a little of money.
Hope she wont have to go that far again.

That's one broken-ass power she's got. I don't think she'll end up permanently joining the team because her power's just too useful. It'd be like having Perona join the Straw Hats.

The censorship was strong in this one. That's a lot of mist.

Nanami's boobs fee is much lower than Kazumi's. Interesting.

Nanami has some advanced art skills alright LOL.
Murakami able to dodge memory manipulation thanks to this photographic memory..
Nanami successfully stopped - a new friend :)
It was an okay episode. Already know what's going to happen next.

+1 Murakami and his logic immediately figures out Nanami's powers and manages to trick her

+1 he walks into the girls' bath again and gets straight down to the point instead of freaking out

I love this protagonist. He has only a few useful traits and isn't nearly as overpowered as, say, Tatsuya, but they get him a long way.

Great episode on Nanami's experiences in the world outside of the lab. Her thought process seems outrageous but when you consider that this is her first time alone outside it could be possible. Naturally the good guys win her over, but I doubt she's gonna be around for long because she's not in the opening.

Nanami reminds me of Nana from EL, same naive personality. I got a feeling that she is made so likeable just to kill her off, besides her ability is too OP.

Awwwn, poor Nanami :(
Though, she saved two friend with her boobs, that's great!
That guy's a fucking pervert though...

That ending... I don't think Nanami will last long. She's marked, as soon as the center will learn about her evasion, they will end her...

Nanami's power really is a bit too overpowered... She haven't hung up once, yet she can instantly search a whole group of peoples memories. If she can change them at the same speed, she could instantly create large armies, especially considering how it appears she can almost use it infinitely. Some limitations like she would need 10-15 seconds to actually change peoples memories, would have been appropriate.

But I liked how they used her in this episode. For once an enemy witch that isn't just a killing machine. The cute sheltered girl which walks out in the real world for the first time.

I'm kinda confused by the "write-once" thing, there have been no sign of him being anything "special", nor have I ever heard that people with photographic memory have short lifespans. It is not even relevant considering how the risk of him being kill long before that is much higher...

Overall plot-wise I'm a bit disappointed so far. The pacing is way too slow, it trows up random possible plot progressions, but haven't explored any of them in depth yet. They finally started looking at the PDA last episode, but now they are off to some random side plot with Nanami. Just to list unfinished plot devices that I can remember from the top of my head:

  • Kuroha actually being his childhood friend, but it was conveniently removed from his memories. (And considering all the fan service, it is surprising he haven't spotted those moles once since...)
  • Young Kuroha having seen the aliens, a quite likely connection to the lab, also considering how they had to sneak in by taking a dangerous route though the dam.
  • The PDA, they started on it at least...
  • The alien embryo, there are short scenes with the prof once in a while, but they have not given us any details. What is up with this teasing?
  • Kuroha's strange importance. The dying woman from the laboratory saying she is the one which needs to save this world, and the guy from the laboratory we always see is also strangely focused on #1107 aka Kuroha (while the management is not). All she have been portrayed of so far is a weak witch, so why is she important? (Can she break something otherwise unbreakable?)
  • Those witches or something which were very dangerous or something, I can't quite remember what it was about.
  • Those things in the harnesses. I believe they claimed they where not aliens, but then what are they? Why is it important they get them back? Why are they even living beings, they don't seem to be controlling the witches?
  • That third switch on the harness. It appears to be something that the lab don't want them to know about, so it is quite interesting.

All they really have done so far is to introduce new characters and show battles with other witches, when will they really start on the plot? They are constantly teasing with small tidbits, even Nanami this episode going "this is what the laboratory is planning", and most likely killing her off next episode before she manages to tell them (us) much about it. With 4 episodes back, I don't see how they can wrap everything up nicely, it would just end up being info dumping.

I'm a bit curious of the ending of this episode. I would have expected them to kill her off in this episode, or add her to the team. I doubt the latter, but do they then intent to use whole two episodes on Nanami just to kill her off? There better be something good next episode (other than fan service)...
