Inb4 nostalgiafags VS. newfags

I really love Sergei Eisenstein movies like Battleship Potemkin (1925) and October (1927).
I’m very nostalgic of my life back in the 20'.

I love both old and new anime :)
That reminds of my childhood, when I watched Vision of Escaflowne, Cowboy Bepop, Dragonball, Digimon etc. :)

Anything made before 2006 is old. Anything made before 2000 is ancient. Anything made before 1989 dinosaurs roam around. Anything made before 1960... well, big bang?

Anything where the tens digit of the year it was made doesn't match the tens digit of the current year. So if there are any 24-episode series in the Fall 2019 season, I'm going to insta-drop them halfway through because they will have become old anime.

90's anime? Like the one with the old artstyle.

I prefer new, because the production quality is a lot better and I value that a lot.
Some guys say old is gold. I really don't care.

To be fair, some of the older anime has better animation than new stuff. Brighter colours just hurt my eyes.

I consider 'old anime' anime from the 80's and older. Oldest anime I've seen, though it's very, very simple, is Katsudou Shashin from around 1911, supposedly one of the first anime. Now for anime as we know it, the oldest I've seen is Lupin III (1971). I also liked watching Speed Racer when I was a kid, but I never finished it. Oldest I will watch is Horus Prince of the Suni (1968).

Basically what I'm asking here is around what year does anime become outdated for you?

None. If it piques my interest, I'll watch it.

I say the early to mid 90s for me is retro but not exactly classic just yet. Like to me, Sailor Moon is retro. Street Fighter II is just retro to me, but not at all lets say flat out old as Elvis or The Beatles. Same with Evangelion. Anything newer than 95/96 does not really feel that old to me considering that I have seen old anime like Tetsuwan Atom and Mach Go Go Go and Cyborg 009 in pure Japanese and not dubbed and I have practically watched anime nearly my whole life.

I will probably soon rent the original Tetsujin 28. But some old anime still hold up very well today. Macross Do You Remember Love and Akira on bluray really look sweet to me. I hope to see Windaria on bluray as well some day. That would look awesome. Char's Counterattack on bluray was pretty nice as well. I would also like to watch Castle of Caglistro on HD as well as some of other classic Ghibli titles such as Laputa and Naussica.

I find it strange that people think Cowboy Bebop is considered old and that the oldest anime they have watched is form like after 2005. Anything past 2000 still feels pretty fresh to me.

I like to know how many of you remember when Japanimation was used. Young people look at me like they never heard of it these days. Or before there was myanimelist, how many of you ever used the anipike?

I don't consider any anime "old" if I haven't watched it yet as it will always be new to me. The "old" animation and "old" art style don't bother me at all as long as the show is interesting and the characters don't look stupid/ridiculous/childish. The "oldest" anime I have watched at this moment is Uchuu Kaizo Captain Harlock which began airing in 1978.

People who claim that old anime has bad animation isn't always true. I mean Cow Boy bebop has pretty solid animation, the film has animation better than most series currently.. I mean it was made in 2001. I can't deny that most old anime has poor animation, but the animation tends to be more solid and more consistent.

The oldest I've watched is probably Cowboy Bebop and I'm not gonna watch anything much older than that. 95 would be the border maybe but I try to watch 2005+ ones.

Old animes usually have a special charm to them. The same applies to old movies such as Rambo or Lethal Weapon.

Every single one of my favorite anime is pre-2007...:/
I personally like the look of the transition of computer and hand drawn in the late 90s/mid 2k.

Surprisingly, Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen OVAs (1999) look worse to me in HD. It feels like a lie or something (I can't quite grasp the feeling). When I watch the original quality or only a minor step-up, it matches the mood/presence more.

This is the only one exception that I know of/experience though.

2007 and before that feels old. Just take a look at the art styles in Clannad and compare them with current animation/art. There is a huge change.

The oldest thing I've watched an episode from was Cyborg 009, I couldn't find the second episode so I just never bothered with it again. I consider stuff made before 2005 'old', but I have no qualms watching shows older than this.

I've been putting more 80s and 90s anime in my Plan to Watch list as of late. These include Nadia, Nadesico, Tylor, Area 88, Lupin III, Gunbuster, and some World Masterpiece Theater works.
