Do you think that watching too much anime can make someone delusional?

Now, obviously things that happen in anime, pretty much never happen in real life. Do you think that watching these things so often can make someone believe that they can happen in real life? For example; can make someone believe that a girl/boy will spontaneously fall in love with him or that they have insane magical powers.

I'll admit that there have been a few times after marathoning anime for a very long time, that when I stop, I have a hard time waking back up to reality.

Or on the other hand do you think that watching lots of anime could make someone more creative? Maybe you've experienced delusions yourself?

I know what chuunibyou is by the way, but I don't think that it quite describes what I'm asking. So what do you think?

if you can get caught up in a fantasy world from an anime, you're capable of doing so for any genre of entertainment. it just depends on the person and likely how crap they find reality to be.

Maybe that's what anime clubs & cosplay conventions are for?

And yeah, I tried to fight(sparring) like how they do in anime once. :/ it actually looked cool.

It really depends on the situation the person is in. I can think of a stupid reason like someone who is desperately wanting a girlfriend and harem animes giving them false hope...

If you haven't got sufficient real life experiences, maybe, yeah. Fiction can certainly affect expectations and make them unrealistic.

Yes and I used to see three girls at school everyday who'd act like Haruhi and those characters from K-On. Personally, I don't care but most students are so creeped out with it for some reason.

Yes, and I speak from experience really.

I'm not the type of person who adopts anime-life characteristics in my real life, such as going around and yelling "kawaiiiii" at everything adorable, or doing stupid shit like that, but it definitely influences my life.

ie, after watching Sword Art Online, I felt extremely depressed, not because of the storyline, or the romance, but the fact that it made me want to believe that love like that should exist. Now, that's made me believe the term "love" is thrown around rather freely, and it should mean more than just occasional sexual intercourse and outings.

Watching anime just makes me more and more depressed really, because it draws a wider and wider gap between anime and reality.

So I believe it can, but it depends how you look at anime.

It depends entirely on the individual that watches "too much" anime.

For me, it couldnt happen. That doesnt mean that it is not possible in general.

It can turn some people into weeaboos, so yes.

But in my case, I've seen a lot of anime. I haven't turned into one of those people yet.
Just need to find out how to quote this every time so I can dodge the stupid 30-character limit.

Like 8th grade syndrome? I'm sure it's possible the reality will always crit them for 9999 in the end when they discover that life doesn't work the way it would in their favorite anime.

The same could be said with anything. My friend is hardcore into 1950s and 1960s stuff and it's definitely distorted his view on stuff. It's not anime, it's the individual.

Not really delusional in that sense, but once I finish a good anime from a marathon, or take a break from a long marathon, I can get put in this weird feeling of vertigo as if my persona is being torn between two different worlds.

Aka I'm high as fuck, though there have been sometimes I have felt that way and it's caused me to think more instead of less.

Of course. Though this doesn't only apply to anime.

Though it's mostly little kids that have these kinds of delusions. (It would be kinda creepy if older people had them tbh)

I went delusional for a couple of months.

Don't ask me how that turned out.

And then I snapped out of it when I went into College.
Reality hit me like a train and Anime became so... boring.

I watch it from time to time to "escape" I guess.

No but I remember one time they were walking in the corridors and the girl at the left side would pretend she was about to trip and wail her hands, and then suddenly straighten up her body. My uni friends pointed the scene to me and feared I'll do something like that when I walk with them because if I did, they'd leave me alone in the corridor xDD

I find anime to be somewhat inspiring. So it can give me motivation to keep running through life. I don't think that my expectations of the real world become unrealistic, but everything is about perception, and if anime can help have a better perception of reality, than that can be a plus.
The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.

I don't think so, but can create some kind of escapism. The person despise the reality, the law, the social interactions, the moral values and everything about the world and those who are living on it. This person might want to search for a better life spending more and more time watching anime and staying in virtual social interactions. This is not only a problem for the person, but also for the family and, of course, for the world.

Like any form of enternteinment it's an act of escapism. And that's fine, everyone needs it. But the problem lies in the quantity of the escapism. If one spends all day watching anime and not interacting with people it can have consequences. Not delusions but you forget how life works, how to interact with people. I know becauseI went trough that. And it took quite some time relearning how to speak with people.
Lucky me I found great friends that were into more than just anime so I could expand my way of thinking and reconect with real people.

That's not true. Anime can be more than just a form of entertainment, you can search more than just unrelated enjoyment. I read books most of the time not only to be entertained, but mainly to understand more the world I live on, with philosophical lines of thought, political commentaries... In anime you can try to gain knowledge as well, you can face it as art and demand a great content. Anyway, if you want you can live an intellectual productive life all the time, without trying to escape from reality, but rather integrating the stuff you want to do with the reality you live. Personally, I think this is a great way to face things.

No, watching too much anime cannot make someone delusional. For that too happen, The person has to be delusional already. Can anime enhance an already delusional persons delusions? Totally. But the delusions of delusional people can be enhanced by just about anything since they are already delusional.

However, I do believe people who are easily impressionable can get a false sense of reality from watching too much of anything really.
