I find it odd that nobody has taken on the task of doing a fan translation for this series. Considering it's the longest-running serialized manga in history, it definitely seems like a big undertaking, but it also seems like a pretty high profile one, all things considered.

So, with that in mind, does anybody want to start a fan translation team for this series?

I have a lot of Photoshop, Illustrator, and typesetting skills, so I can make the final version look really nice.
I'm also a native English speaker, so I would be able to do a quality check on the translation.

I've found a source for raw scans of the first 189 tankobon, as well as a few related one-off comics, so we wouldn't need to worry about scans for a while.
All we would need to start up a team is somebody who can translate from Japanese to English.

So, is anybody interested? :)

Yeah, you're probably right.
After posting this I actually started studying hiragana, and after I become very familiar with that, I plan to move on to katakana, and eventually kanji.
This might take a while, but at least I've got kochikame as a motivator to help me actually learn how to read Japanese.
Of course, learning more words would be useful, too, since I currently only know a bit more than a handful, but that could come at a later date, for now I'm just trying to memorize Japanese characters.

I have noticed there were some chapters scanlated but most of them were not. It would be nice if those previous scanlators could pick up this series again.
