| The manga is still ongoing. I've read up through chapter 40-something, and it is nowhere near finished. Most likely what the anime's producers will do is either pick a good place to end this season of the anime with the intention of leaving the ending open-ended enough so that a second season, if greenlit, can pick up right where they left off, or they will do an anime-original ending kind of like how they did with Elfen Lied. EL's ending was similar to a certain point in the manga but had some deviations here and there with respect to certain characters. |

The raws are out to at least chapter 97 now, and it seems to be getting close to the end (it's finally gotten back to that mysterious opening scene). The anime won't get through even half of this material in 13 eps, so yeah, as you said, it will be an original ending or a cliff hanger (I think EL was a little of both, actually). |

I knew the scanlations were a bit behind, but not by that much. ;) Then it sounds like they might aim for two seasons and end this one on a cliffhanger, with DVD/BD sales and manga sales determining whether a second season is made. And yeah, EL's was sort of both. |
