Xerxes Break is definitely my favorite. I can relate to him. I try to do eveything myself and help others without accepting thanks and keep my thoughts mostly hidden like Xerxes, I also tease my friends and give them advice or a listening ear.
Xerxes is my favorite but Oz is pretty high up on my list of favorite manga/anime characters too. Also because I can relate.
I originally was stuck on Gilbert because he was just so... so pretty. But then I realized how childish he was for his age and went straight to Break and never looked back! Well okay, I did grow to adore Gilbert again after he matured into a man, but that took quite a lot of chapters.
(Tbh, I think a LEAST favorite character poll would be easier)
Here's my list that I made on the character sorter.
1-9 qualify as amazing 11/10 characters that and I adore them with all my heart and they each deserve the happiest of all endings(Except for Jack ;) )
10-15 are also amazing characters. Love them too.
16-23 are characters that I generally like a lot.
24-26 are decent.
27-30 are meh.
I dislike Levi.
and the remaining two, Isla and Miranda.. I despise them with every fiber of my being. But the only thing Isla has over Miranda is that it's fun to poke fun of him Shinji matou style and Isla failed his plan while Miranda manipulated my poor cinnamon roll Vincent.
I don't seem to like the manga or anime very much, mainly because a lot of the characters take a side-step from the actual story and can get too carried away with themselves. The mangaka, while good at making details and art, sucks at creating the atmosphere of Victorian England. Given, while it is more of a fairy-tale esque world due to the Alice in Wonderland influence, it does a disservice by having the honorifics replaced with Japanese ones, which really brings up the cringe level to 11.
That aside, my favorite characters would boil down to 7.
Gilbert, Oz, Leo, Xerxes, Jack, Vincent, and Oswald.
1. Leo/Oswald/Gilbert/Oz - I like these characters because they seem to be the only ones who aren't downright assholes to everyone they meet. Most of the characters in this series seem to be the biggest assholes not only to one another, but almost in all manga regarding families. These four tend to be the most reasonable and relatable because of what I've mentioned before. Only problem with the latter two is the odd age gap between the two in the series; Gilbert's 24 and Oz is 15. Kinda cringy and creepy. Not to mention, Gilbert smokes. Fuck that.
5. Xerxes Break - Seems ok. Mainly the poster child and goofball of the series, so there isn't much to say.
6. Vincent/Jack - Both are manipulative asswipes, but for good reason. These tend to be the better of the worst written characters (which applies to about 80% of the series) because of their history, even if some of it is plausible (i.e. Vincent being a dick and misogynistic piece of trash to everyone, including women, but mainly due to his upbringing by his mother and how he developed a sense of mistrust).
