The 2014 award list for the 7th edition of Manga Taisho, the annual Japanese Manga Award, has been announced. The award is decided by a panel of bookstore clerks who select the best title from manga series which are relatively new (have published less than 8 volumes) and have released at least one volume in the last year. The first voting round decides the nominees and the second decides the final ranking.

*1. 94 pts Otoyomegatari
*2. 82 pts Boku dake ga Inai Machi
*3. 66 pts Sayonara Tama-chan
*4. 59 pts Nanatsu no Taizai
*5. 54 pts Hikidashi ni Terrarium
*6. 46 pts Juuhan Shuttai!
*7. 43 pts One Punch-Man
*8. 32 pts Ajin
*9. 31 pts Ashizuri Suizokukan
10. *9 pts Sakamoto desu ga?

If I remember correctly, Otoyomegatari had been nominated several years in a row. I'm glad it got the praise it deserves. (The US librarians had already singled it out as one of the top books for teens a few years ago.)

The art is amazing!

I love Kaoru Mori's work, so even if I haven't gotten around to reading Otoyomegatari I'm sure it's an award well deserved. Glad to see Sakamoto and One-Punch Man on there too. The other titles I've never heard off but they all seem worth the read.
I hope you have a lovely day ♥ヾ(๑❛ ▿ ◠๑ )

Yup. As the saying goes, the third time indeed was lucky for Otoyomegatari.

Anyway, I always like to keep an eye on the winners and nominees of Taisho Award. There's always some quality stuff there.

Wow, Japan actually has fine taste in manga.
Otoyomegatari and Boku dake ga Inai Machi are both great series, Ajin and Sakamoto desu ga are good , too. There are also some interesting non-translated manga series there...

Congrats, it's a good manga. What I'm more surprised is nominees on the list that I have never heard of.

Boku dake ga Inai Machi
Sayonara Tama-chan
Hikidashi ni Terrarium
Juuhan Shuttai!
Ashizuri Suizokukan

The others are pretty good selections there.

I'm very pleased with Otoyomegatari winning the award. Miss Mori's done a fine job so far and I hope this continues until the manga is over.

This. When I see a list of series for awards, I expect series that look good.
Thank you bookstore clerks. XD

Also the fact that I haven't started any of the series on this list... (judging on premise) but regardless! They all look awesome. :D

Otoyomegatari is extremely rich in its settings and very detailed in its artwork.

Not surprised :)

Of the ten listed, I'm reading three, so some of the titles I recognized. Definitely need to try reading Otoyomegatari. It's rather funny the big gap of points between ninth and tenth place.

god****. it needs an anime.
but it also need great animation. otherwise it will fail really hard...

when you read the manga, you will notice entire chapters only animating one single fight or one single scene without anyone saying a single word

Death March kara hajimaru isekai kyousoukyoku

One Punch-Man is 7th?! Are you kidding me?! One of the best in years to come out! Oh well! I don't know about any other manga in the list so don't know what to complain about :/

I won't go as far as saying that every man out there should aspire to become like Saitama and every woman out there should aspire to become his woman. Enough said! You don't know what you are missing if you aren't reading this manga!

The only Manga that I know from that list are Otoyomegatari, Nanatsu no Taizai, One Punch-Man, Ajin, and Sakamoto desu ga?
I added Boku dake ga Inai Machi and Sayonara Tama-chan (I can feel the author's pain).
Otoyomegatari needs an Anime adaption already, with the same art of course!!!

That -megatari, I almost mistook it for the -monogatari suffix, ...lol...but yeah, I'll try that when I have time next week, seems interesting.

Hoho, Seven Deadly Sins, Sakamoto and One Punch Man got in...Nice entries this time, and most of them are under-appreciated. They really need some love indeed.
