How come there's a novel and a manga for log horizon?And why is the manga so underrated while the novel has a good rating.Please elucidate these details for me!

The manga is an adaption of the light novels. but it's on hiatus right now and is not caught up to the novels so that's probably why it's rated so low.

Normally the reason why Light novels are better rated then the adaptations,is because the fans that read the ligh novel are the ones who really loved the adaptation so they tend to rate the light novel better too,but the ones who didn't like that much and rated it low doesn't read the LN.

Because novels are the original source, it tends to be better. When adapted into an anime or manga, it loses both quality and details. If the anime and manga adaptions were good, imagine what the original novel would be then.
