Why should I bother with such a prehistoric way of eating when I can use the obviously superior spoon+fork+knife combo

Yes. Sometimes I do not like the plastic or metal chopsticks because it's difficult grip the noodles. On the other hand, wooden chopsticks do not have that problem.

Actually, I've never even tried.

I prefer to use a cleaver to chop things

I never even tried yet either. I've never even eaten at a Chinese restaurant before.

TL;DR: Nope.

Somewhat. I can use them for more solid things like sushi or dumplings, but noodles? Forget it.

I can use chopsticks pretty good, even the flat metal Korean chopsticks. Mostly I use chopsticks for things like sushi, depending on the ingredients in a sushi roll a fork would push out some of the ingredients. So the first place I really learned to use chopsticks was in a sushi restaurant. But I became really efficient when I was stationed in Korea.

Using chopsticks is easy, however, I only use them to bridge any kind of cultural divide.

Let's say I am over at a friend's house. Their family uses chopsticks so I will use them too. But let's say that I was at home and using chopsticks and the only people around are my family members. The most reasonable time I will use them is if I were building a tower out of chopsticks.
Just need to find out how to quote this every time so I can dodge the stupid 30-character limit.

I can, but not very well

I prefer a fork most of the time, except sushi for some reason, I like eating sushi with chopsticks

I can stab the shit out of chicken with chopsticks and it if that counts.
☕ Truth be told, I'm quite proud of my house blend. To attain my flavor and fragrance, I use five different types of coffee beans. ☕

Yes I can and do with some Asian foods because I'm used to eating them like that. But back in the homeland we're taught to eat with both a spoon and a fork, which I'm sure a few other countries do, but obviously they don't in the US. I still eat that way for the most part, though not really in restaurants. Then there's eating with your hands (other than stuff everyone eats with their hands), which I do with wings and rice omgg. My dad will sometimes even do that with soupy stuff and rice, but that's where I draw the line.

Only for sushi.

Was born in China where we used chopsticks for rice. *shrugs*
Glad I have spoons and forks now.

Yep.

I go to Korean BBQ frequently with my friends and we're all capable of eating a truckload of meat. I l had to learn quickly otherwise I would have starved at an all you can eat Korean BBQ.

(I asked for a fork, but those fuckers forgot to bring me one)

I can use them and sometimes do, for variety. Spoon and fork are superior, in many ways.

Chopsticks for style, Spoon/Fork for efficiency.

My parents are Asian so I learned when I was a kid, probably around three. I'm not allowed to use a fork, spoon, or knife for dinner cause they don't like it.

Yes I can use chopsticks. They also can be sharped and used as a weapon at the last minute, impailing the hands of any would be assassin, or stab into the neck of the unsuspecting as you make your escape.

^Strong avi to post correlation lol

To some degree but it's way easier using a fork and the only reason I would use them over a fork is if I wasn't offered one.

What a strict family.

They must also be quite uneducated to not see the efficiency in spoons and forks over chopsticks over a large amount of different foods.

Recently I've been using chopsticks at least twice a week (usually either one lunch at some Japanese place and one at a Chinese place, or twice at a Chinese place).

You eat soup with chopsticks? For the record, a porcelain spoon is still a spoon.
If you generalize, you're wrong.

Yeah, I saw a guy using them at a Chinese restaurant when I was like 5 and was like "woah dat is da kewlestest thingy 3vr!!!1!!" And my Uncle lived in Vietnam for awhile so he knew how to use them, so I learned from him. I only use them at Chinese restaurants though, I prefer forks....much easier to shove food in my mouth with.

There's no benefit though, so it might happen really really late.

In university I housed with an Korean and a Chinese guy. They taught me how to use chopsticks and since we had so many in comparison to forks I ended up using them everyday. I prefer chopsticks now. I find them more comfortably and because they are made of wood they don't add a tinny flavor to the food. Plus since you eat smaller bites you digest better. So yeah, chopsticks are superior

Yes, chopsticks is not too hard to use, but I advocate dual wielding of Spoon + Fork.

My parents use chopsticks, but I don't see how chopsticks is more efficient, but you can wash less stuff after eating lol.

Only thing I can say is that it is not a pointless skill.

You can pretty much eat anything that is solid with a pair of Chopsticks.
I can eat whole quarter chickens with just a pair of chopsticks.
Or even lobster.

Forks on the other hand are only useful if you need to cut your own meat, like a steak. A spoon is alot more useful in my view.

Knife is great for killing and preparing food.
