There has been a slight change to the signature rules (as seen here). MAL signatures do NOT have the ability to be any size desired. They are now restricted to 600px by 140px. If it is not a MAL signature the same rules apply (the 600px by 110px). Forum moderators will start sending reminders tomorrow to change over sized signatures so please make sure the check ASAP~!

kei-edit: we now also have a 300kb max limit for sigs

Well, part of it would probably be so it takes less time to load, but more so designs for a signature don't need to be 200px when you list four recently watched shows. It's kinda unnecessary to make such a bulky item. xP

So any reason why the width limit it only 600px when the site design happily supports 650px? If signatures were allowed to fill the full width it will fix the aesthetic problem of everyone's signatures having a different alignment (Half are left aligned, the other half centered). Not that it really matters, just trying to find something to complain about. ^_^;

Time to make a bigger signature, thanks for explicitly defining the maximum size guys. =D

The 600px limit has always been here, that's more so a question for our coder and god Xinil. I don't see alignment problems on my side, but maybe you're running a bigger resolution then I? I'm sorry.

I don't understand the reasoning behind the height restrictions on signatures. If load times were the case then shouldn't sigs just not be an option. Why is only height restricted when the length allowed is unchanging. You'd think if load times were an issue both height and width would be effected. And if there is a height restriction, why do you have the option to include up to ten items in your MAL sig...

Do height restrictions apply to spoiler tags in a sig? If so, I don't think it should be that way. I mean, any slow load times would be the result of the one who, out of curiosity and of their own volition, clicked the spoiler tag. Perhaps a rule should be initiated where any images in a sig that exceeds the height restrictions has to have spoiler tags. Moderators will be checking sig sizes anyway.

Also, does the height restriction pertain to only graphics or does it include everything in your signature area? (text, links, ect) If not, then, again, I don't understand the height restriction.

One last thing, I don't personally have an issue with size restrictions. It's not my site, I didn't create it, so I could care less. Thought I would ask some questions for those who might not of thought to do so.

High sigs are annoying. This is a forum board and not a site for big ads and banners.

People like putting images and text into their signatures so why not let them have their fun. However we didn't want to take all the fun away so we only restricted the height.

When a sig is too big, it's against the rules. Be it in a spoiler tag or not, since after clicking you see the full size sig that's against the rules. Same goes for text, it hasn't been mentioned so EVERYTHING in your sig will have to be within the 600x140 pixels. Text, or image(s).

On that note, please change your sig, Umbra. (:

MAL sigs aren't strictly for MAL, so you could make a higher sig to use somewhere else!

lol... That's what they said in IRC too. But if I set it to 10 rows in the signature page, then it'll effect ALL signatures that link to that picture, including MAL's. So unless I'm going to have a mal sig on some other site, and then not have a MAL sig here, that just doesn't make sense.

I think Xinil might as well just set the maximum number of items on your sig list to 6. 7 would be over the 140 px limit.

With some images around the sig, even 6 lines could break the rules. Also if you want to use the sig somewhere else, you'll simply have to decide whether you use it here or there.

You could simply link, too.

In all actuality, the decision to make everything restricted to 110px could have been possible. However, we're attempting to keep things reasonable and fair, so hopefully people can understand this. :) A balance is what we're trying to achieve cause moderators don't like big, ugly, bulky signatures with ads, etc and users want freedom. We're trying to give both.

My sig could've used a bit of breathing room height wise...
Could'a fit in 5 columns rather the 4 :P

Plus I had all these great ideas for sigs that are now impossible. Doesn't really matter though, seeing as this is done and settled.

Well if people have a problem not able to put their oversized pictures or signatures on the forum then don't act annoyed too the forum staff as they just do what is neccessary to keep this place smooth and running.

I find it rather good its 600x110 I love to makes signatures and designing with anime stuff myself and I can say the best signatures usualy come out in aprox size of 500x100 to 500x120 so I don't see the big deal here :)

And if you just wanna be a prick ( a figure of speaking ) then place those oversized pictures in your profile that should do the trick right ^^

The sig height restriction doesn't bother me. What frustrates me a little is the character limit. So, for example, if I made a very thin MAL sig showing 2 shows I am watching, and then I want to add a few very thin club or site banners (such that the total height of the sig doesn't exceed the rules) and I want each one to link to the corresponding club page or website or whatever, it would be very tricky because the character limits. Each character used to write out the url or the image location counts against the limits :)

Your search on "Oran Solus" returned the following quotes:
"Oran Solus? I know him. What a wanker. He still owes me a tenner." Oscar Wilde
"Oran, you're so intelligent and awesome <3" Bakayaro
"Oran's sexy." LolitaDecay
"Oran is a sophisticated penguin." Drybananna
"Oran is a Hand-Eye you faggots." EddieSpaghetti
"Oran for Prime Minister." the_prime_one
"Oran is all that is stated in his sig and more." orbitzz

A couple things.

First, I have no problem with people using spoiler tags in their sigs. You may have larger than 140px sigs ONLY when the sig is in the spoiler tag.

Second, and I just thought of this. We're going to start imposing a 300Kb limit to sigs. That means your total signature cannot be larger than 300kb. I hate long loading sigs that make the rest of the page crawl.

Third, I could increase the character limit, we'll see if it's really needed.

I know forums that don't have a sig limit, and you end up with sigs that fill an entire screen. It's just unnecessary. A signature should be a small blurb at the end of your post.

Signatures -should not- be bigger than your average post. Just looks really bad :p . So...I'm all for stricter siggy limits.

Assuming no one is stupid enough to use .bmp pictures in their profile, I doubt anyone will need more then 300kb. Good rule. :P

Animated .gifs can quickly push past that limit too - I've seen some signatures over a meg and a half thanks to animation. But most people who use them don't keep a close enough eye on file size, so it'll be good to have the limitation taking care of those too.
