Within the past two weeks I bought two David Bowie albums: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and "Heroes"

When I first listened to Ziggy, it took me a while to realize that it was a concept album. The "storyline" of the album wasn't as obvious as, say, something from Sound Horizon, but there was a plot there. It was hard to tell at first, but tracks like "Ziggy Stardust" and "Five Years" gave some sort of indication that the album wasn't just a random collection of songs. It also seemed like Bowie melded and became one with his Ziggy persona in the album. In other words, it was easy to forget that Bowie was the one singing, not "Ziggy". All in all, great album. Recommended tracks: Just about every song except for "It Ain't Easy".

"Heroes" was a very interesting album. The title track seemed like more of an official "kickoff" of the album instead of the previous tracks preceding it. The album also features 3 instrumental tracks that act as one really long track, making it a musical journey within a journey. "Heroes" ends at an unusually upbeat track (upbeat compared to the three instrumental tracks before it), which almost has the same sort of tone as the first track of the album, "Beauty and the Beast". It's almost like one is reading and comparing the first and last sentences of a novel. The album is a little heavy and dense in tone, but it is one of the first few albums that was recorded when he was more down-to-earth. Recommended tracks: "'Heroes'", "Sons of the Silent Age", "V-2 Schneider", all the instrumental tracks.

Expected a little bit more from Tech, but maybe the album will grow on me. The CL single and the Rammstein album are great. The Trojan Horse is dope, too.

Shpongle - Ineffable Mysteries From Shpongleland

This group is fast becoming a favourite. After "obtaining" and listening to their discography, I liked it so much I bought the mp3 albums (with few exceptions, I don't buy CDs). Will do the same with the new album once I can buy it digitally.

Dead By Sunrise - Out of Ashes

After going through a sort of anti-Linkin Park phase, I'm come to the realization that I still find their music enjoyable, even though the days of LP being my favourite band are long gone and that my tastes have changed significantly. I enjoy their old stuff in particular, especially Reanimation, so much so that I was disappointed that they never continued that sound. I don't like their new stuff as much, although I do find myself listening to it once in a while.

Anyway, as many people are no doubt aware, Dead By Sunrise is a side project that began as a result of Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington teaming up with Julien-K, itself a side project of the band Orgy. I found the Dead By Sunrise album to be fairly good, while I didn't like it as much as Fort Minor or LP's older stuff, I did enjoy it more than Minutes to Midnight.

R.E.M. - Monster - Has it's moments, kind of like an album-length Shiny Happy People though...
Opeth - Blackwater Park - I was surprised to find they sound a lot like Porcupine Tree, I wish I'd gotten this back when I really liked PT, I like it okay but those would have been the ideal circumstances.
The National - Boxer - Ordered but have not received yet.

Also bought Pixies' Doolittle and Fleet Foxes' s/t for my grandpa for Christmas.

As an early Christmas gift form my roommate, I got the album Waiting for the Sun (40th Anniversary Edition) by the Doors. I told her that I was really getting into them as of late, so she got me the CD. It's my first Doors album and, while there are some tracks that really stand out ("My Wild Love", "Five to One", and the newly added "Celebration of the Lizard (An Experiment/Work in Progress)", to name a few), the others just miss being o.k. by a hair. They'll have some redeeming quality to them that'll make them great tracks. The only tracks I thought were just o.k. were "Hello, I Love You" (their biggest hit off of that CD) and "We Could Be So Good Together". Maybe I'm influenced by the album cover when I say this, but I get a really outdoorsy/desert-like feeling when I listen to this album, as if it was recorded outside in the middle of nowhere. Well, it's my first stop on my seven-album tour into the minds of the Doors, and so far, I like how this ride is starting off.

BT - These Hopeful Machines

I pre-ordered this one, currently listening to a download of the album, and it sounds like I've died and gone to heaven. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is one of the most beautiful things I've heard, ever. The album opens with this track, and it only gets better from there:

^ Nice track, though the vocals don't do any justice to me (but the glitchy intro, oh).

Sainthood By Tegan and Sara

I'm almost never disappointed with their releases, but I feel like this album is missing something...
I like that its a little more upbeat than The Con.
Its taking me a while to get past the 90s feeling that its got, though.

Great record. I checked out their newest effort but that one wasn't that good unfortunately :( .

PackFM's album is great, and Disco Ensemble's new record sounds very nice as well. Glad those guys are back. The sterepony album was worth getting too and the Evangelion 2.0 OST is just as epic as the movie.

Garbage is an amazing band.

Last album I bought was Fever ~ Bullet For My Valentine. 2010 has been pretty slow for me music-wise.

The most recent albums I've gotten are Contra by Vampire Weekend, Portishead's self-titled second album, and Help! by The Beatles. I've only heard the Portishead one out of all those, and it's pretty good based off the two listens I've given of it.

As for the most recent songs that I've gotten in general, it's several b-sides by Radiohead from their Amnesiac era - "The Amazing Sounds Of Orgy," "Fast-Track," and "Kinetic." And I like them all! ^_^

Agreed, only good song I liked from their new album was White Flag Warrior. Probably because I'm a Tim McIlrath's fan xD.
