Welcome one and all, to the rebirth of the very popular MAL Mixtape! I hope you all are as excited as I am. For the sake of simplicity, the rules will stay mostly the same. However, instead of having a 25 song limit, I will boost it up to a 30 song limit. Just to give more people a chance of being in the mixtape.

MIXTAPE IS OUT NOW! GET IT FROM THE LINK BELOW

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NNZ34U70

Rules:
1 - Instead of a 10 minute song limit like the previous mixtape series, I will make it a 15 minute limit.
2 - If you want the song you picked to be in the mixtape, PLEASE only post it in this thread. I will not accept PMs or profile comments with songs for the mixtape on them.
3 - Obviously, only 1 song per person.
4 - If you can't decide, I can choose for you.
5 - Please make sure your song is in the mp3 format. Filetypes like WAV, FLAC, etc will not be accepted.
6 - Minimum bitrate is 128 kpbs. I would prefer that they be at least 192 kbps. Bitrates like v0, v2, 320 etc are accepted.
7 - No reserving spots.
8 - Please use file upload sites like megaupload, zshare and mediafire. Try to stay away from rapidshare.
9 - Deadline is Steptember 30th at 11:59 pm

And the theme for this Mixtape is...

Tracklist as of today:

If you have any questions, problems or concerns, please feel free to send me a PM or comment on my profile.

And as always, have fun!

Not really ambient. The only Daisuke tracks that matter are too long anyway. As for She, Coloris is certainly not ambient.

This is ambient:
Eluvium - Indoor Swimming at the Space Station

Bonus.
Message to Bears - Found You and You're Safe

Not to be an ass, but is that even ambient? I don't know how correct last.fm is, but it says its metal.

I don't know the track but I wouldn't exactly trust lfm's genre-tags. Also, lots of black metal bands have some pretty ambient-ish tracks on their albums.

I actually had a very hard time selecting a song since there's just so much brilliant stuff out there. In the end I decided for something darker and went with:

While the band itself mostly plays a mix of black and avantgarde metal, this certain track classifies as (dark)ambient/avantgarde - it is focused on creating a certain atmospheric setting, with vocal melody being the most important part and the main instruments being keyboards/drums, with guitar melody following in the background. So yes, it is ambient.

Ah ok. I just looked up the band on last.fm and didn't even bother to look at that specific song. Sorry 'bout that.

And too ntHai, it seems ambient enough to me. Aphex Twin has a piano song called Avril 14th, but I still consider that ambient.

It's not quite ambient, but it is sort of close. Massive Attack is trip-hop/down tempo/chill out.

If you need some ideas as to what is ambient, artists like Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Squarepusher, etc are all ambient.

BTW worst theme EVAH!!! There where a lot of interesting and more popular themes and you had to go with this one. I know I'm not the one to speak but honestly what's point of theme when 80% of people don't know how it sounds.

Ambient isn't even a hard genre to figure out. And there's a definition on the first post.

aspidistrafly - On the Summer Solstice

Eluvium was taken, so I went with the next best thing I had.

I'm fine with ambient, but I do hope the next mix isn't restricted by genre. I'd like to see some different sort of themes incorporated for a change.

There are lots of themes other than genres. 'Happy' songs, gloomy songs, isolation, sex, "best of year xxxx", springtime, etc. Most of non-genre themes are more open to interpretation, of course.

With such "themes" tards will rush the thread with jpop/greenday/tokyohotel crap, thinking it fits the theme.

Such themes are way too....wide....

For example sex: you will get britney spears, some rap and some grindcore song about rape in one mixtape.

I'll stay silent about "happy" or "silent" genres, considering thats pure bullshit.

Isolation, on other hand, IS a godo idea. ;]

Don't have anything by them. I'd feel uncomfortable putting up a track I hadn't listened to before.

I don't really know if this is ambient, but it still is awesome experimental and blew my fucking mind away:

Super Going by the Boredoms
"In the Beginning, the creative energy radiates from within."

No, no. That's Lame. Sounds like something out of a Jodorowsky comic.

The Tokusyu Manga Club - Features alternative comics/avant-garde comics/outsider comics/psychdelic comics/surrealistic comics/underground comics + La Nouvelle Manga (part of Alternative).

I don't remember what I was thinking when I posted that. But screw the genre, just throw it in there.

But here is something else to chew:
Sacred Worms by In Slaughter Natives
By the way, it may not sound like regular ambient because its very dark and industrial ambient. I haven't listened to much of them, so their is probably a better track from them.

Yeah, I forgot about that rule. But I found the entire album Enter Now the World on Megauploader, but not each individual song. I just listened to more of the album and I change the song that is to be chosen to Skin Sore Eyes (Final Structure) (track 5). Its very similar in nature to what I said about the last song.
