I was a really active internet user for 6-7 years until I moved house and had no internet for almost a year. I managed to get by and had a lot of time with my friends until I had access to a neighbour's WIFI... After my daily activities instead of wanting to hang out as I usually do, I instead have the urge to just go home and browse the net and do something that I haven't done in soooo lonnggg.
Needs in order of importance, why not having them could kill you, and how fast:
Clothing, hypothermia, a few hours
Water, dehydration, a few days
A place to sleep, lack of sleep, a few weeks
Food, malnourishment, a few months
So technically, yes I can live without internet. In fact I did for most of my childhood. But if we were to do another list, of wants, internet would certainly top that list, by far. It also tops the list of useful things, too.
Yes. Though, I would be sad without it. Still, all good things must come to an end eventually. Likely not in my life time, but the internet may be replaced by some VR World simulation software further down the road. Maybe Minority Report style.
Heredity said: what if your life support machine was operated via the internet and it was to either go 56k or not at all? tough choices. could you live on an internet life support machine that ran at 56kbps?
I'd tell that guy to get a life but that would create a paradox.
