Greetings!

I ask this, what if you had one chance, one choice to represent what anime is to someone?
What would your choice be if you HAD to reduce the animes you've watched to 1,just to say,"Here, this is why i love anime, this is what it is."

Ill go with Boku no pico.

Ok not really, ill go with Shingeki here.
Whats your choice boys?

This, Steins Gate or Fullmetal Alchemist.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Cowboy Bebop; the epitome of art, the best thing that anime has to offer. Princess Tutu is also a good choice.

Imprinting? lol. No I really chose S;G from my own experience with it. But I guess it's easy to say I just followed the example of the others who also mentioned S;G. /shrug

Interesting, but really tough question. If I had to choose just one, it might have to be Baccano! Larger than life characters in larger than life scenarios; the one thing anime can boast at being better than any other medium in.

Naruto or Death note or Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Toradora was positively received when I showed it to a female friend, so maybe that too.

Steins;Gate

The first half will probably drive anyone who doesn't like Otaku stuff away.

Ooh, that's tough to choose. After much thinking, I've decided that that one anime would be Gurren Lagann.

There are too many possibilities, so you gotta throw in something generic and more likely to be accepted by the public, nothing straying too far in a certain direction.

So any of the HST.

Although if it's someone who had quit anime because of these (probably dbz), i would give them Death Note. You can't go wrong with that.

Probably not Steins;Gate. I don't think it's suitable as a gateaway show. Psycho Pass, Death Note, or Shingeki no Kyojin.

No way. I wouldn't suggest any of my favourite anime, or non-anime watchers would run away. LOL

Your favorite seem pretty normal even for real-world standards, if you ask me. Why would they run away? Assuming your favorites are the one on your profile.

I mean, something to get a person into anime...I don't think suggesting josei shows would work (Nodame, Utakoi and Chihayafuru plus my other Josei faves), Shinsekai yori is disturbing, Detective conan is see as a kids show and the rest of my faves are sports animes which turn people off apparently. ^^;

Yup, I showed Toradora to my female friends and they liked it very much.

But before Toradora, I'd offer One Piece first.

Nope, not at all. I suggested Death Note, Steins Gate and Psycho Pass, but none of them are my favourite. I suggested them because just about anyone can watch them and will most likely love them, even non anime fans. Toradora is my favourite, but it doesn't have a dub, and non anime fans/newcomers will be alienated by Taiga and Minori, so I couldn't suggest Toradora so easily. Even Sword Art Online which has a dub and is considered a great gateway anime may alienate those who are perhaps not too familiar with RPGs.

Fullmetal Alchemist represents everything great about anime and appeals to pretty much everyone. In short, Fullmetal Alchemist is basically the first anime you'd recommend to anyone new to this medium.

That or Death Note.

Death Note, Kaiji and Shingeki no Kyojin are, whether you like them or not, excellent gateway anime. Simple to pick up, thrilling and creative without being too abstract.
Steins;Gate I feel would drive people off with it's first half. As for FMA:B, its length might discourage newcomers and make them give up.
