i see Noragami pre-sales are in the mid 4k range, but trending upwards. I sure hope it finishes strong and gets well above the 5k line. There will be No chance for a second season if it finishes barely above the Manabi line.

I'm not sure this is true. It is based upon a Kodansha publication and they seem to care more about manga sales. Genshiken Nidaime got made even though Genshiken 2 was under the manabe line, same goes for Chihayafuru. Yet we never got season 2 of Nazo no Kanojo X even though it got higher disc sales; it has never ranked in the manga charts before or after the anime came out and that seems to be the kiss of death for Kodansha adaptations. Noragami's large manga boost I think is more important for it than good disc sales.

I sure hope you're right. Noragami is my new obsession lately and I haven't been this obsessed with an anime since Free! and KuroBasu.

Your comment about how Genshiken Nidaime was made even though Genshiken 2 had poor sales gives me a bit of hope. I assume that the manga got a good boost after Genshiken 2? I remember asking this question earlier but, how much of a boost did Chihayafuru get thanks to the anime?

EDIT: Since I'm so desperate for Noragami to get a second season, I looked at past lists and collected this data for Chihayafuru:

For Chihayafuru, if we compare volume 14's sales and volume 17's sales it got ~70k sales boost thanks to the anime.

For Noragami, it got ~70k sales boost as well.

I'm so happy to hear that about Chihayafuru. And the second season is also boosting sales, that is really great. I love that anime too and I hope we get a third season as well.

By 163k sales to 242k sales...are you counting that from volume 12 to volume 15?

Anyway, so from season 1, it got ~80k boost. Noragami about ~70k. And that's in one volume. Who knows how much it'll do by volume 11? Please give it a second season Kodansha.

Yes, I suppose I was looking from volume 12. It is hard to say exactly when to start looking for a boost. Some start to get a boost even before the airing date with the news, PVs, marketing ramp ups, etc.

Will be interesting to see if Noragami can rank again this week and watch its disc pre-sales as well. So far it seems like the anime-only content has not hurt its chances. Rabo had me worried... anime-only changes can be a killer to disc sales.

Noragami ranking again this week...according to shosei manga ranking, it's rank for this week is #49. It will probably barely miss the list. Ah well, we'll know soon.

No, I don't mind him and so far it seems people are positive toward the changes but it could have gone either way.

Also, I figure that this anime-only arc is a good way to end off the series because there's no way they could start/finish the next arc before it ended, and I just hate it when they bait another season and it never happens so I really don't mind this; and it seems pretty good so far.

Ahhh I really hope Noragami sells well!

Manabi line still hasn't changed it's still 2899 average per volume. The thing is most studios don't want to finance a second season unless the first season far exceeds profit projections. They like to play it real safe in Japan.

Golden Time is not golden for sales. Only consolation is they are likely adapting the last novel (came out Saturday) to the end so it should be all wrapped up.

Speaking of GJ-bu the boxset (er single disc set whatever) is estimated at nearly 6.9k four days out from release which is utterly insane considering the show only averaged 3.3k.

It's not KMB-level rise (box sold 5x singles) even if the estimate is correct (which is questionable, the singles were Amazon-biased so there's little reason this wouldn't be too), but that's a lot harder to do when you sold 3.3k vs 1k.

* Of course it's worth noting the whole season is being sold for the price of one disc of normally priced anime which makes it much less impressive in revenue terms, but still impressive in terms of increase in the number of people who decided to buy it.

The show deserves it, so its nice too see it getting some more money.

Spring should be a lot better for sellers, at least. I'm expecting Love Live 2, JoJo 2, Mahouka, Mekaku City Actors and Haikyu to all do 10k+. There might be one or two others that make it up there as well.

What studio does it does not have a big effect on sales, and demographics do not mean something will turn into a hit. So many shows with the same demographic did not even hit 10k.

They're both hugely popular Shonen Jump sports manga that are big in the Comiket circles. I don't see why you'd expect Haikyu to not sell well, its got everything going for it that Kuroko did as well.

Below 10k does not mean it won't sell well.

The reason I don't think it will reach 10k is because its a daytime show, I can't even think of the last time a daytime show reached 10k.

Magi did not reach 10k, so only gintama. I think you can also include FMA:B. I think those are pretty much all of the 10k+ daytime shows in the last 5 years that I know off.

I'd say the ods are in favor of it not selling 10k. It can obviosly happen, but with only around 10k of all shows reaching 10k, it being a day-time, and popularity does not always translate to BD/DVD sales(oh hey, Silver spoon). I'm placing my bets on it not selling 10k, since it seems far more likley.

Regarding Haikyuu!, I honestly don't know how well it will do.

On one hand, it's fanbase in Japan is comprised of the type of fans KuroBasu has. It's also already inspired it's own doujin events before it's anime was announced. Not to mention, if we compare, it's selling more pre-anime than how KuroBasu used to sell pre-anime.

On the other hand we have another example of a popular JUMP manga which is doing quite badly in sales this Winter, Nisekoi. It was selling almost as much as Haikyuu! before it's anime and it was promoted heavily by Shueisha(definitely more than the promotion Haikyuu! got for it's anime) but volume 1 will probably end up selling ~3.5k - 4k. And that's with an event ticket. Volume 2+ will probably sell ~2k -2.5k. But still, Nisekoi caters to a whole different fanbase.
