I've never really understood the concept of this. I have a cousin (who's only seen 4-5 shows himself) whom apparently tried to introduce FMAB to his friend and they haven't talked since. This was nearly two years ago iirc.

Unless they'd be contributing to the industry in some aspect I don't really see the pros to showing people cartoons.

ive never specifically went out of my way to get someone into anime but i have recommended anime to people that were curious as to what it is or if they are new

I got my friend to watch Elfen Lied for the first time last year and she cried like a little bitch and it was a joyous moment. Now she secretly likes anime.

Does this really surprise you?

It does considering the fact that we were friends for 6-7 years...

Yeah, I've told a few people, but none ended up keeping it as a hobby. They'd just watch the one show I recommend, tell me how good it was, then never watch anything else.

At least I tried.

Its not like forcing. Maby just ask him if he wanted to watch something with you. Normally its fun for both.

I introduced my best friend to anime, he was really into pokemon so I told him he might enjoy the anime. He then saw me watching code geass and started watching it with me. Since then he has really been addicted.

Tried too introduce anime to 3 people

First:showed him one piece, somehow turned him into someone who absolutely loves echii harems(how that makes sense ill never know)
Second:showed him soul eater, he actually became a devoted fan towards that anime and still watches anime himself today.
third: showed him multiple anime found it to be all shit, insulting stuff (and this is what i showed him)like one piece, elfen lied, and fmab, and then he and the first fell in love with hotd saying its better then others :P.

3/23/2014 Edit:
Second now has an account on MAL and is attempting to use regularly.
Third, me and the second are attempting to get him to like it again so we both recommended soul eater, monster and bleach(well the first 50 episodes of bleach anyway :P) and he states he'll watch it.Doubt it though.

Recently. One of my friends caught his eyes on a sickly laughing Sonozaki on my droid, so I introduced him to Higurashi (and he yet has to see it). Other than that, I used to recommend against watching anime.

Indeed I have. Just one friend to whom I've introduced a select few of my favourites and they were very much enjoyed! (Said friend is usually very receptive to my fandom influences anyway)

Haven't introduced someone yet who had no prior knowledge of anime beforehand, but I did help another friend find some more anime next to all the mainstream series he was watching. He was amazed when I showed him other anime than Bleach, One Piece, Naruto and Soul Eater lol.

Now that I think about it in middle school I did talk about Death Note with a girl. But she didn't watch it then.
I saw her twitter the other day. She had an Elfen Lied avatar.
I'm sorry.

Death Note is actually more popular in America than Naruto from the people I've talked to.

I DID try introducing some anime such as Sword Art Online to people I know.

Then they would go "that's about high school children!" and then they would use the P-word.

So at the moment, I am a closet otaku. I don't even talk to people about anime in real life unless I see something obvious that identify them as fellow otaku.

The strange thing is... some of those people who attacked me had no problem watching shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which was set in a high school...

What I want to tell them is: HEY! It's not my fault those stories were set in high school! If SAO were about adults playing the game, like in Log Horizon, I would still watch it you know!

No offense (and I really, truly mean it) to Hellsing Ultimate fans, since by what I can tell it's a fun romp, but that's probably one of the last series I'd show to someone if I was trying to convince them to take anime seriously considering it's about godmode Alucard fighting Nazi vampires and bulletproof priests with machetes.

This one time at band camp...

Honestly, the only person that I've introduced to anime and that liked it was my younger sister. This was mostly through Miyazaki films and some other famous movies. She's not super into it, but has watched some famous romance and SOL series along with the better movies.

My other friends, definitely not. The closest was that I introduced them all to Archer right when it first came out. We were hung over and I forced them to marathon all of season 1. They were instantly hooked.

I've not necessarily introduced anime to them, most people that don't watch anime still watched DBZ and Pokemon back in the day. However, I did get many of my friends interested by showing them Death Note and Steins;Gate. Black Lagoon and Hellsing are easy options for getting people interested as well.

I'd imagine he brainwashed his "girlfriend" with a nonstop back to back 24 hour marathon of all of Fairy Tail.
It's the only show he's watched after all.
