The coffee girl's death was hilarious. I thought she was going to be the main character and BAM! Off goes her head.

Though I luv Elfen Lied as a whole, I may have to agree with this. The first ep is really nonsensical and hilarious, I mean the killing and blowing off heads stuff.

The Elfen Lied manga was silly yet very sad, the anime was as well but alittle more silly then sad.

Hmm...

I was sad with Fate/Stay Night when Sabre dies.

I know what i'm about to say can sound a little weird...

You know when you see someone crying, and you feel like crying too?
Yes, i felt that way in Kannagi. Yes, that's a little stupid, but when Nagi cries in the last episode, i felt like doing it too.
The cry was so... real... that was probably why.

I cried while watching Mars Of Destruction.

Good natured trolling aside though, Ga-Rei Zero, Air and Myself;Yourself all moved me to--Very manly--tears at one point or another.

I don't cry for an anime because it is sad, but because I hate the people in it so much; makes my eyes water with a passion!!!

I've heard Clannad got pretty serious... Haven't seen it yet though, probably never will.

As for the most tearjerking, I've seen two. Grave of the Fireflies for reasons that most people already know.

And finally, Figure 17. This show is comparable to a bipolar woman riding rollercoaster. For those select few who've seen it, if you didn't shed a tear, you're inhumane.

The most bittersweet game I have ever played was Valkyria Chronicles (It has an anime so it counts!) if you don't shed a happy tear during the last cutscene then you have no right to call yourself human.

There isn't any, really, except Grave of the fireflies (you are not human if you didn't shed a single tear during or after watching it).

Other than that, most of those "tearjerking anime" are just sad anime to me (ie. Saikano).

As many people have stated, Grave of Fireflies. Despite the animation being so beautiful, it somewhat helps to enhance the film's depressive tone. When I saw the scene with the mother burned severely and lying there dying with worms crawling around later on I couldn't help but cry non-stop along with the scene where Setsuko is crying about her aunt taking away her mother's clothes was rather sad as well. I deleted the movie from my pc because it was so sad, I kinda want to watch it again now...

I've never cried because of an anime, but "True Tears" almost got me. Even now when I think about it, I can get a lump in my throat :( The second half of "Welcome to the NHK" is also incredibly sad. I find it so sad that I skip certain episodes whenever I re-watch the series.
