Wow, well, I cried all through Clannad: episodes 6-9 (Fuuko's arc), 12-14 (Kotomi's arc), 18 (when Kyou and Ryou cry), 20, and 22... and pretty much totally through After Story..
And also in Air, pretty much the whole thing, and Kanon, in Makoto's arc and Mai's arc and Michuru's little story...
I really am a mess when it comes to sad anime..

It is unwise to not watch Clannad After Story just because you're scared...

It wouldn't do much really... besides that you might get teary eyes or chocked throat just listening to the theme song or anything that reminded you of those scenes.

Really, no damage at all ^_^

Why yes. After Story is a real tear jerker. I really appreciate the beauty and artistry of the methods used in certain scenes.

Code Geass and TTGL did have their tear-jerking moments too. =P

For anyone who's planning on watching Clannad AS, go do it. Of course, as it's on the very top of MAL's top animes list, some people feel the need to say it's bad.

I don't really like this policy of doubting of every popular thing, and only getting into "alternative" stuff.

Anyway, watch it, it's really good.

and wait...for those who haven't watched the 1st season...for common sense, watch it first. ~After Story~ is a sequel, so why be convinced into watching this hype if you haven't seen the prequel?
Tough people like me didn't cry at this anime, but i ended up very depressed that it gave me a heartburn rather than tears...
gosh we're making this one particular anime overhyped/overrated in this topic...

TM 8.0 was a pretty strong dose.
The older one was the grave of the fireflies.

Also the famous novel - Les Miserables : Shoujo Cosette, a typical drama which make you feel angry with the antagonists and feel sorry for the weak. Too strong that you may lose courage to continue watching.

Key's works seems fairly touching, but I didn't watch them all. Clannad AS was touching, a small part of it.

Is Tokio Magnitude 8.0 good?
About tearjerkers, I was told to watch ef-a tale of memories. Nothing amazing, really. I gave it a 7, I think. Then, there's Air.

Are Air and TM 8.0 that good?

Hmm Air might be good; but only a small portion of it. The first few episodes feel like filler, and later on, the show seems to repeat itself. But all is not lost, the ending does make it feel worth it.

As for TM 8.0, yes that is pretty good. Realistic and quite unique. Unfortunately, it is fairly slow, slightly repetitive, character designs and production values are lackluster. However, for an 11-episode series, this is a solid watch.

After I finish Air (which is interesting, but incredibly boring), I'll start TM 8.0. If the first episode sucks, I'll watch some random comedy anime and watch the other 10 episodes some other day.

I did understand it, I just find it too forced and short. And if they make it this short, they rush on absolutely everything. And they do.
I didn't like it at first, but I decided to watch it since everyone talks about it. My advice is to watch Clannad. AND THEN, Clannad AS. It's much better imo.

Gundam war in the pocket makes me seriously hate the war and feel pity for soldiers who are participating in the war because they are ordered to.
The whole mention of Lucy's childhood is tearjerking, IMO.

Elfen Lied is hilarious. People die for absolutely no reason. It tried just so damn hard to be deep. It tried to pull a Narutaru with the dog getting killed. More funny than sad.

Pulling off unnecessary and a bit childish gore make Elfen Lied somewhat hilarious, esp the frist episode. :D However, as far as melodramas are concerned, most of such things in anime are made up anyway. It just depends on the viewers whether they feel such things are made up or not. Just like how I feel (Clannad AS spoilers Ahead)

And forgot to say one thing. Ga Rei Zero ending is also quite sad, probably becuz the relationship and interactions bet two main chars is built up nicely all the way only to enforce the melodrama near the end of the series.
