Anime is not just for kids!!!!
As long as you still enjoy watching anime then you should keep watching it, no matter how old you are!

No way it is for kids. Such people are silly. There are animes that are even better than most of the movies with real people :P. Anime is for kids, teenagers, adults, elders, everyone can find something with meaning, it's not just animation. Show him he is wrong!

Only children complain about people thinking anime is just for children. The rest of us have outgrown that "I'm not a kid!" shit already.

All the people I know that have commented anime with that statement, for once, don't know what they are talking about, but they also tend to enjoy western made trash, braindead sitcoms and series that have been recycled into oblivion.

The irony is just striking.

Seems like it's more about trying to stay "normal" and fending off anything that may "threaten" your mindset.

Nah, I don't think so. Even sometimes I watch Detective Conan,
I can't believe they relating some drugs with Chemistry which kids
aren't learn that yet.

Well, watch anime sometimes needs knowledge rather than
excitement. If you doesn't have it, it will be just same being
a dumb. That's all.

Lol anime for kids that a good one, although some have been striped of its roots and dumbed down to a peice of crap "what most dubed anime turns into(what 4kids does as well... they are my most hated enamy)"

But if you think anime is for kids go watch mabye the first 6 episodes of Higurashi, or any amv about it
Its full name is "Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni"

Besides all most all the animes iv watched would just blow over their heads and wouldn't understand...Gurren lagann is the most for kids anime iv watched, but it still would blow over any kids head somewhat(depends on how mature this particular kid was, i was mature and understood allmost everything before i was 10)

most kids are playing games and that usually matures a kid pretty fast, nothing like playing exploritory search with bullets and a recently slaughterd corpse

How old is "kid"?
Have to admit that MANY anime are for kids but on the other hand there are many anime that contain stuff that is not too suitable for kids at all such as: necrophilia, innards, deep stuff, your mother... ect.

So is anime only for kids? No.

then again i think it was anyway...
kids are not kids in my mind when they are 16 as soon as they leave school they have responsibility's (work, Collage, Uni)
but there's probably one sick little kid out there that would watch all the goriest animes and find them not scary :P but that's because of the media that has been broadcasting lately
kinda like how there teaching sex ed to little kids now :P to try to stop them doing it when there young lol

but anime aint just for children and it aint just for adults its a free to pick your own choice world aint it? :P

I get that higurashi is a superb anime, but why do you have to assume that featuring a little blood means kids won't like it? If you ask me, unsuitable anime for kids would mostly be those that requires a more mature viewer to follow / enjoy it. Kids generally aren't very interested in character-focused shows for instance.

From Higurashi page,
Rating: R - 17+ (violence & profanity)

It's not really just about blood that makes it mature.. but there are different views of what people believe on ratings of shows I guess.

If you let a friend or come parents see a serie that requires maturity to be enjoyed, probably it would be a failure; as they haven't got the maturity to clearly see that the fact that a show is animated doesn't imply it being for kids, probably wouldn't have the maturity to see the beauty of the serie you show them, and would just reckon it as something for kids; I guess Aria The Animation could bring such an effect XD

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni would indeed be a good choice in my opinion; have been thinking to show it to my parents in case they accuse me of being childish / watching childish things.

Higurashi could pass as a kids show at first glance (before it starts getting violent), and it has lots of elements that children could enjoy, even if those are deemed "unsuitable" by their guardians

Well, one of the first scenes is a glance of a violent one that comes in the fourth episode as I remember XD anyway as I said, on one side you have mature anime in a more "immediate" way (violent ones), which may seem for kids too, on the other you have really serious ones that would seem stupid to those who start watching with the idea "watching this will only prove my conviction that those things are for kids"; I guess Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni stands somewhere in between those two sides.
Anyway I think I am making the discussion too complex for what the thread was supposed to be (I would have expected nothing more than pages and pages of replies to the thread title question indeed XD)
