Er, sorry. I just have a big problem with that Elfen Lied. Could ya tell?

Although I enjoyed Elfen Lied, I think you're right by not adding it. That said I probably wouldn't have added Higurashi either, but that's because I'm more drawn towards the visually different than anything.
Speaking of which The Old Crocodile is most unusual along with some other Koji Yamamura animations Bavel no Hon and Man & Whale. I haven't gotten around to watching Inaka Isha (Franz Kafka's A Country Doctor) yet, but if it's anything like the others it'll fit right in.

Ah...well, once you watch it, you will know it fits right in. And so will Hundred Stories, for that matter.

Oh my. I thought I had added Inaka Isha and Bavel no Hon. I guess not. Oops. Sorry about that; I knew about them but I didn't check the club relations. Lain, however, I knew was on the list.

I had not, however, heard of One Hundred Stories. It actually sounds really good. I've been kind of out of touch with anime for a while, but that one might get me back into it.

And, er, Zeromus...RahXephon doesn't really seem very unusual in my eyes. It sounds and looks like the everyday Futuristic War anime but I'll give it a chance and I'll watch it. If I judged by looks I would have missed out on the genius of Sexy Commando.

Anime:

Excel Saga. Really weird and experimental, but still hilarious, anime. The art style looks weird, in our time.

Manga:

None comes to mind, except for Kuso Miso Technique... which is already on the manga roster.

I think that Tamala 2010 - a punk cat in space should be added to the relations. Although it looks cutesy at first glance, it is actually pretty dark with a fair bit of violence and other stuff not expected in a cutesy anime.

Also if we are going to have Excel Saga in the relations, I would like Jungle wa Itsumo Hare nochi Guu to be added as well. Although the overall art style is a bit generic, there are some very unusual character designs (such as Chourou's, for example) mixed with a style of humor that has a lot of weirdness in it.

Holy crap, I'm adding just for the fact it's based on Count of Monte Cristo.

I didn't want to add Excel Saga based on the art style. Plus it kind of annoyed me after the first few episodes. It seemed like a one trick pony. But I suppose I'll add it. You can't judge a book by it's art style. Just look at Sexy Commando.

Sounds like Cat Soup. Kinda looks like it too. Added.

Again, Excel Saga just squeaked by into the club. I suppose I could add it, just because there are not enough awesome old people in anime.

I am currently watching Genius Party, and it's pretty safe to say say that it should be added to the relations (I am quite suprised that it isn't in the relations already, actually), and this is BEFORE I have seen Masaaki Yuasa's contribution as well.

I see your Genius Party and raising you with Genius Party Beyond, Plus anything 4*C actually. They make mind blowing films. Short but stunning.

Ergo Proxy
Gantz
Gilgamesh
Glassy Ocean
Hotori: Tada Saiwai wo Koinegau
Interlude
Petshop of Horrors
RGUtena : Apocalypse - the anime itself is strange but this OVA outdoes strange
Speed Grapher
xxxHolic - I know it's mainstream but it seems to fit the bill

I've sworn this club off Ergo Proxy, Gantz, and Utena. I guess it's a personal thing. They just don't seem very...I'm not too sure what the word is. And xxxHolic is another one I've been contemplating for quite a while. I've added the manga because it's, well, just better. And weirder. But I had never heard of Gilgamesh or Glassy Ocean. They sound like they fit the bill, even if it does have the sentence: "There are also children born after this event who have mystical powers to change the environment around them." But there's the occasional exception of magical children in da club.

Iblard Jikan - more of an eye candy. It'd look good as a screensaver but it is unusual.

You're not adding the rest of the Higurashi franchise?

Kai onward just didn't have the creepy factor. It was good, but it lost what made it really stand out among the crowd after the first season.
I'm probably going to check some Higurashi manga too. I've been meaning to do that.

Also HOLY HELL Iblard Jikan looks great. Emphasis on looks.

Casshern SINS. Amazing artwork. If you're looking for unusual/incredible art, one episode should be enough to tell.

Also, La Maison en Petits Cubes.

RahXephon is not the typical futuristic war anime. It's pretty much entirely about character relations, and the plot is closer to NGE than anything else (only without any holes, less angst, and an even bigger ancient conspiracy). Artistically it's mostly excellently drawn but not unique, but it's got a number of surreal mind screw scenes and the mecha designs are incredible. Also, the music is incredible.

Anime:
-Kai Doh Maru
-Kara no Kyoukai [Awesome animation, some scenes just blew me away]
-Saikano [the manga, as well]
-Real Drive [Just started on this series, I liked the character designs and animation]
-and...Haibane Renmei?

As for manga, I don't know much, but...
-Believers

Would Aoi Bungaku Series count?

the art style is the same one used in death note, but it has a lot of mindscrew-type psychological moments in it (for the "No Longer Human" anyway, don't know about the others) so I am thinking that it might be worth adding as well.

This post should also fix the thread.

Apocalypse Zero and Birth are two old OVAs that are unfairly bashed and worth appreciating for totally different reasons

Apocalypse Zero is clearly MEANT to be campy, silly and gross and is pretty funny if you're into that sort of thing and Birth is amazing as a lengthy animation test. it doesn't have much of a story because that wasn't the point - it was an animation porn OVA, nothing more nothing less.
