Do your parents ever ask about/make fun of your anime?

I also think that at page 21 is a good oportunity to refer again that:

1. My father loves anime, but is afraid of Death Note. His middle-age dream at this current moment is to help me found an anime convention and a cosplay cafe.
2. My mother likes the boys, she is always sneaking on my BL manga. She usually asks when will I get one like those but tridimensional. She refers to anime as "those pornographic drawings you do"
3. My grandmother is an old-school shoujo fan. She likes Malice Mizer and refers to them as "those beautiful songs she listens to"
4. My sister is too afraid of me to ask anything, but she likes Vocaloids (she thinks they are actually people behind the cutesy design)

tl;dr
You probably are tickled at them because they don't understand you and your weeabooness, but if you take it easy they'll just accept it as part of life.

I can't believe how many people's parents are against it or freaking out D: I mean, it's just tv if you think about it >_> My mom must be pretty cool then, whenever she wanders into my room I'm usually watching anime and it doesn't bother her, same with manga too and when she hears me listening to jrock and jpop. She's never complained, although I think when I started buying figurines and stuff, she got a little worried, but I think it's more an issue of money than the actual content. Plus when I've gone to buy manga she looks with me. And I think she's happy that I'm sort of a shut-in anime fan instead of being out on the streets at night getting drunk/doing drugs/sleeping around. And since it's helping me learn Japanese I think she views it positively. I used to watch anime in the lounge sometimes, just because I wanted to watch it on a tv, instead of my computer, and she's sat and watched some episodes of Gintama and Death Note with me, and even laughed at the appropriate moments >_<

This thread has made me realize how awesome she is ^3^ luckee~

Ok, your mom is the coolest person in the world! My mom freaks out about it because the first anime she ever heard of was InuYasha. She cannot stand things with demons in them, so she thought all anime was like that. -_-
PS: DUDE! Your mom lets you watch Death Note? My mom would kill me if she even caught me looking at a Death Note AMV!

Ah, I'm 20 so I don't think she can complain about me watching 'adult' stuff, but she was never too bothered about me watching 18-rated movies when I was 12/13. I think if I watched a lot of ecchi or hentai and she knew about it, that would bother her /:

They don't mind since i told them watching anime is such a better entertainment than watching asian dramas. They don't even mind if i watch the ecchi ones since i told them that i can hardly draw female anatomy. ;3

Well tey ignored it for a year, and then they noticed that I won't stop with watching soon xD
My father is sometimes kinda interested and brings books and stuff about Japan in our house :P
But my mother always complains >.< first about that I was buzzy on a forum and it took her a year before she noticed that I only clicked on refresh every 20 minutes and that the only thing I do is watching anime...
She wants me to have a social live but... I'm just really bad in connecting with people >.<
So in the weekends I watch as many as possible when she's gone and when I have school days she doesn't really care as long as I do my homework and get good grades =D

My friends were all kinda like 'oke...' the first time I talked about anime but because I always scream thing in the msn conversations I have (big spoilers sometimes xD) I kinda get them all into anime...
Even my best friend who hated it O.o (That's the power of Yaoi, and when you're an addict all hope is gone xD)

My dad doesn't seem to care much.

My mum pretends it's OK, but I can clearly see she HATES the fact her daughter's favorite activity is watching anime. To be honest, before discovering them, I had no point in my life, now I can at least say what type of company I prefer. -.-

Anime really changed me a lot, but to better. I wish she could see that. :\

My mom want to kill me every time she walks next to my room and see me watch anime.
My dad is the "Do what ever you like, I don't care" type.

My sisters are into korean dramas, so they look at me like I'm wierd and too old for that stuff.

I don't really care what all of them think... as long as I like it I'll do it.

There really wasn't anything for them to react to. xD
It was a really gradual transition, and I had always liked things like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh before I knew they were anime, so they figured I just kept watching shows like that.
My dad thinks it's kind of weird when I watch things in a different language though. ^-^;

Both my parents don't care, but my older brother thinks i'm weird for liking it.
Well, my mother, when she was growing up in Singapore, read a lot of manga in Mandrin, and my father lived in Japan for a few years, so they're both quite used to anime and manga. They just don't like it when I'm obsessing over a series, and not focusing on my schoolwork ^^

I can't remember if I've ever replied to this thread... but this is pretty much the situation with me.

My parents don't pretend to like or understand it, but it's just part of me now and they're cool with it (I've actually gotten my mom to sit down and enjoy parts of a few shows. She doesn't have the attention span to follow a linear plot over 20-something episodes though XD).

hmm..it was 6 years ago when I started watchin..can't really remember..probably somethin like "Isn't that for lil kids". Now that I'm 20 and my dad sees me with a manga he's like "You're an adult already" which I always reply "wtf..ur friggin readin donalt duck so how's that any different?!" LOl
My mom's always been pretty cool about it..we watched sum Ghibli movies(Spirited Away,Totoro) together when they were showin them on tv and she liked them so she doesn't really hav anythin against it...(though if they ever found out I'm readin yaoi they would probably kill me)

My mum's is like 'as long as you're improving your Japanese listening ability by watching anime (or cartoons as she calls it xD), I'm all for it'.

Just wish she had the same mentality for me playing vid games :(

My parents really didnt care. They would rather see me spend my money on something like that instead of drugs or alcohol, like a lot of other 17 year olds =P
Plus they accepted it that I'm a nerd in a lot of things, and they know I'm happy that way, so it makes them happy.

My dad was kinda shock when he found out I was addicted to anime. He said " You watch anime 7 hours a day ?" , I say yeah. And about my mum, she keeps saying japanese anime is bad,not good,it will make you addicted and you wont be able to do your homework.

I really hate my parents , they dont know that anime is my life and anime is more important than school.

My religious father's reaction (this is only slightly exaggerated but still pretty damn close to his reaction to my manga and anime collection)

"WHAT IS THIS? PORN!? I MEAN LOOK AT THE GIRL ON THIS COVER! *grabs inoffensive manga* SHES ALL ATTRACTIVE AND STUFF! JESUS DOESN'T LIKE THAT! YOU'LL GROW UP TO BE A SERIAL KILLER! *runs out of room crying and praying*"

(the crying and praying was totally for reals)

My mom's response.

"Meh, could be worse, he could be doing drugs. Now he can't afford drugs"

They don't mind me watching anime. I mean, should they? My mum even buys me manga and one time when she was reading the TV Times she saw that Spirited Away was going to be on, asked if it was one of those 'Japanese animations' I liked, I replied yes and she then said I could watch it in place of her programmes if I wanted. To be honest I'm quite surprised with most of the replies here. It's not like watching anime is a sin.
